"Hey, weirdo!" Jane looks up to see who is in front of her. "I guess you're finally listening to me now, huh?" asks Veronica, the girl that always has something mean up her sleeve for Jane, with her friends. Jane goes through her bag on the ground next to the bench she's sitting on. She takes out a small chalkboard and a piece of chalk and writes, 'What do you mean?' This makes Veronica smirk and punches Jane in the stomach. As she falls to the ground, the mute girl coughs up blood. "That you're ugly! Clearly you're an idiot as well!" Jane crawls away, rapidly shaking her 'no'. She kicks the poor, defenseless girl in the back.
Jane goes limp on the floor. Veronica spits on her hair and leaves and calls out, "Twat!", behind her. This is amusing to the other girls because they start to laugh and giggle. She cries on the floor, shaking. The school bell rings and a teacher opens the door to let all of the kids back into the building. Jane gets up, wipes the blood away from her mouth and stands up. She holds her stomach and manages to walk to the door.
Since she never has anything to distract her except her imagination, she is always very observant. She watches the other kids run through the door and sees all of the different hairstyles of the girls. The uniforms of all of the kids. The leaves falling out of the trees. She walks and is the last person to come in.
"Dress down, huh?" She asks her daughter. The small girl nods, hoping her mother will let her. 'Can I wear my dress?' She signs. The woman looks at her, as if she were comparing her to something and smiles, "Of course. Which one do you want to wear?" She replies. 'My favorite one.' She is really excited to show everyone her mother's talent. Her mother blushes, seeming embarrassed. "Why that one? You have better ones that I bought for you." She asks her daughter. The girl makes a face and signs 'But I want to show everyone how nice clothes you make.' ''Yeah but...'' Jane makes puppy eyes to her mother, as if she were saying 'please'. Her mother sighs, ''Fine, you can wear it.'' The small girl's face lights up and she jumps around excitedly.
Her mother laughs. "Hey! Calm down!" She grabs her and cuddles her. Jane smiles. "Let's get you ready for bed, ok?" Jane nods. Her mother puts her down and leads her to a room, a small lamp rests on the nightstand. There weren't many things in the room. Just a bed with clean white sheets, a black blanket over it. The curtains were open. The beautiful night sky, with not a single cloud in sight. The white moon was there. Jane goes into the bed, being so small that she struggles to climb up.
Her mother chuckles, "Shorty. We'll go to the doctor about that soon." The girl nods. She gets under the blanket and lays down. "Good night, kiddo." Her mother kisses her head and turns off the lamp. She closes the door on her way out.
Jane wakes up to the sound of something sliding against the floor. Almost like a snake. She sits up and looks around. The dark room could be hiding anything. She gets up and walks towards the closet. The closet was right in front of the bed, them both facing each other. She opens the doors and looks around.
There was a small mouse there. She bends down and picks it up. It seems scared. She pets it gently. It was hurt. She went to her dresser and put the mouse on it. She looks in a drawer and takes out a candle and a bandage. She lights the candle and uses it to light where the injury is, a small cut on it's leg, and wraps it with the bandage. She goes to the kitchen and quietly gets a little bit of water and a small piece of bread and sneaks back to her room.
The mouse seemed to be asleep. She puts the water and the bread next to it. She pets it one last time before blowing out the candle and climbing back into bed.
