Sky Log #15: OOB-ers, Hackers and Cheaters

In today's entry, I will explain these 3 different types of players.

It is important not to misidentify and ruin the reputation of other players because most players you encounter are possible OOB-ers. Most players have at least gone to one OOB place before or accidentally went on an OOB trip without knowing. I will try my best to explain these players, especially OOB-ers.

What is OOB?

It just means Out-Of Bounds.

In other words, places that Sky kids shouldn't be in but can be entered via some glitches. Well, most places require a bit of glitch to get through but… there are some that doesn't need that. I will tell you (to the best of my abilities, apologies if you can't understand) some of the common OOB places that really doesn't need much tricks to get into. Otherwise, you can always go through other platforms and watch OOB videos of players getting to other areas.

Since I'm on the topic of OOB, let's first talk about OOB-ers.

Just for clarity's sake, OOB-ers are NOT hackers.

We don't mess with the codes or programming of the game. We merely enter through the 'holes' or within the game but this act doesn't damage the game. Skeptical as you may be, but the world of Sky is not as fragile as you think it is if several players entering through the 'holes' will crash the game. OOB allows many veteran players to find a different side of Sky as well as finding little interesting objects that can be found within Sky. I like to think of OOB-ers as tourists or adventurers since we go to these places for photos. Or they could be musicians who needed a place where no kids can enter to practice their music quietly.

An extremely simple OOB place would be the hidden rainbow bridge in Isle of Dawn. The hidden rainbow bridge itself is a glitch within Sky and only reveals itself when you do something.

It is located among the clouds near the Isle temple. When facing the Isle temple, you fly to the right and fly in circles. Always fly as close as possible to the clouds so that you can recharge. You have to fly up as high as you can and always look around you because it is possible for you to miss it if you fly too high or too low. There will come a moment when you fly at the right height when the rainbow bridge magically appears by itself.

Another OOB place can be found in Hidden Forest. It is located in the tunnel where the spirit named Pouty Porter is.

For this OOB to happen, you must have the chibi mask. Only the chibi mask is small enough for you to naturally accomplish this OOB. Once you wore it, you just have to find an unnatural hole within the tunnel that shouldn't be hard to miss because it is right next to a dark plant. Then you just stand above the hole and move around, you should be able to slide into the hole. The place where you will enter have collected rainwater that won't hurt you. Kids who enter there normally practice playing their musical instruments or treat it as their private hideout. It's not a commonly visited area but it is a famous area where players can accidentally enter.

These two OOB places are the most common ones that can be easily accomplished. Of course, there are many more OOB places. Many of them have been shared by other players through videos and word of mouth.

Of course, if you were to attempt one, I would recommend that you have to be well-acquainted with the tricks of OOB-ers. Some OOB-ers require at least 2 kids to get into, so make sure you have a close friend whom you have unlock most of the friendship tree. Mainly, the piggyback and warp has to be unlocked.

Next, would be the items. You will need your chibi mask (or the chibi spell) and tables/tea set/bonfire/swing. The table and chibi mask should be easy to get since it requires hearts but the other items can only be obtained at special events such as past seasons or events such as Days of Bloom. However, the spells sold at the Ark in Forgotten Ark, Golden Wasteland should be sufficient (although I never use these items before since I rely on my trusty table).

Hopefully, my little introduction of OOB-ers and introduction of some of the OOB places can give you a clearer sense of who OOB-ers are. We are just harmless kids who like to go areas that Sky administrators (aka parents) would like for us not to go to.

Next are Hackers and Cheaters.

I will first talk about Hackers. They are pretty notorious for their codes and cheats. And most of the time, they don't play fair. I don't have much information about them but they can use a variety of codes to bypass places in Sky, such as Eden. There are also instances of players being tricked by them in which when they lead you, you will find that your candles are missing and if you an in-app purchases (IAP), they are also gone. Should this ever happen to you, you must immediately report the player and have the staff help you get back your candles.

I have seen a player who can magically made themselves big despite wearing a chibi mask. So, they become a big baby which is quite funny to look at. But, I'm not sure if this is hacking since it is possible that this player is playing with changeable codes that doesn't need much skills. Now, before you claim that this is the work of spells, I can assure you that this happened at the time when spells or Season of Enchantment haven't appeared yet.

Cheaters are pretty similar in that sense but you can call them "fake hackers" since they don't know any coding.

They use mods or scripts made by others (most likely hackers) to help them within the game. I only got wind of their existence from a post by one of the Sky players known as @thatskydeer on InSkygram (I know it's not the name of the actual social media platform but… let's not risk it, folks).

Cheaters can be identified as players with weird phenomenon happening around them, such as when you approach them, you find yourself lagging or there's a weird cloud around them. They mainly try to make themselves scary by revealing your Sky kid's code. Normally the so-called big mouth hackers aren't really hackers since they could be using a script or 3rd party apps such as Game Guardian to help them steal some candles from players that they are leading. They also try to get cosmetics that they have not gotten before. They don't have any ability to harm or change your Sky account and most of the time, they are after veteran players who have been around in Sky since the first season.

Please be cautious.

For players who have the deer mask or the 'owl' hair, you are the most likely target of these cheaters.

You can search up more information via @thatskydeer's story in the platform I mentioned (date of post is 27 February). If the information is a bit too much for you, you can also reach the bite-sized version by @n00msky on InSkygram.

The main difference between cheaters and hackers is that actual hacking involves getting passed the firewalls within Sky: Children of the Light. In simpler terms, hacking requires actual work. People who knows about these things can attest to that.

I did a little research on these hackers and cheaters.

To my surprise, many platforms have players reporting sightings of them, although they may lump cheaters as hackers too.

They will often see players who suddenly have a sudden change in outfit, sudden burning, sudden increase in cape wedges or suddenly surrounded by sparkles. Other cases include capeless strangers asking them for hand or piggyback. There can also be players appearing with cosmetics that they have never seen before such as appearing with a violin. Some players met hackers or cheaters who are nice to show you how they mess with the game while some players fell into their trap, losing their IAP and candles in the process.

While it is tempting to befriend them or take their hand when they ask you, it is highly advisable that you report these players. They are NOT your friends. If you try to befriend them, you will give them a chance to 'steal' candles and IAP from your account. So, no matter what happens, avoid them and report them through the in-game report button. You should also take a video of what the player is doing so that you can show the administrators what they are doing.

If you are partaking in using 3rd party apps to hack into the game, I would suggest that you stop. It does not benefit anyone but yourself. More than that, you are ruining the gaming experience for yourself while causing distress to other players as well as tgc staff members. Also, it is possible that you can affect the game with the codes that you are playing around.

Please play the game as it should be.
