A cold wind blew through the town as we made our way to the bustling marketplace. The sounds of laughter graced our ears as a group of children ran past us being chased by an already tired-looking mother and father. Audrey had to stop Dismas from saying something when one of the kids bumped into him before running away with glee. "Nothing but pickpockets in the making," Dismas grumbled, lifting his bandana over his face. Reynauld just smiled and waved at the parents as they continued their chase. "I'm sure they're just kids having fun there Dismas it's not that big of a deal." I could help but stifel a bit of laughter looking at the two of them.
It was still early in the morning when we arrived at the marketplace but judging from the number of people there before we could tell we were not the only ones there early. "Let's get in and get out before some of the more 'unsavory' people start lurking around. Audrey took a swig from her flask and began walking forward as the rest of us followed. The air was filled with the sounds of merchants beckoning people to their stalls.
One man was selling some strange fruit and another was handing out free drinks. But out of all the stalls we walked past the one that caught my eye. A man standing in front of a bunch of weird pieces of clothing. When we approached him the man's once boring demeanor seemed to perk up a bit. "Well hello my friends, can I interest you in the purchase of my many fine items and wears?" I stepped up and pulled my bag of coins from my side. "I would like to see what you have when it comes to clothing."
The man took a look at me and immediately brought out a large green and silver cloak and placed it in front of me. "I think this would suit you quite nicely. It's woven from the finest silk the weald can produce and you could have it for the low price of five gold pieces."
< I don't think we should be buying anything this early in the day, plus who knows where half of this stuff came from. He probably ripped it off of some corpse somewhere but that just adds character in my opinion. >
"I'll take your cloak but I'd also like to know if you have any weapons for sale while we're still here." Those seemed to be the magic words as the man immediately brought out three wooden cases. "These are all that I have in the way of weapons, but I guarantee that you'll find something that packs more of a punch than your basic blade or firearm." He opened the first box and that was the first time I've ever seen Dismas' eyes widen so much. Inside the box sat a weapon that resembled the one Dismas and the Bandits used on the day they attacked, but instead of tattered wood and scratched iron the weapon sitting in that box looked like bone and crystal had somehow been fused to this pristine black metal.
The man picked it up and handed it to Dismas who held it like a kid who had been handed the best gift of their life. "Now before we negotiate prices I have to tell you, this item is highly dangerous in the wrong hands but I won't say anything as long as you never tell where you got this from." Dismas looked at the man, back at the gun, and then back at the man before dropping a bag of coins on the table and stepping back to admire his new toy in the morning sunlight. "That's all fine and good Dismas got a new gun and now he's all happy but what's the plan in regards to that fancy green cloak over there."
< I personally think we should try and buy the cloak from this guy but I say we get a weapon from a more reputable place so we don't run the chance of getting recognized with stolen goods. >
I put a hand inside my bag and pulled out five gold coins, placed them in front of the man, and put on my newly acquired piece of clothing. The salesman accepted both amounts of money with the same smile he had been wearing throughout the interaction. "Is there anything else I can do for you, my lovely customers?" Dismas was still looking at and tinkering with his new weapon Audrey was waiting on me and Reynauld was busy helping a shop owner load fruit onto their cart.
I smiled back at the man, wrapped myself up in my newly acquired piece of clothing, and thanked the man for the help as we walked further into the marketplace.
