Dungeon Crawl 2

(Authors Note: I'm switching this story into a third-person perspective from here on out, I will also be doing the same for previous chapters along with adding some much need polish. Other than that I hope everyone enjoys this chapter. I'm also writing another story on the side so go show some love for that one if you are so inclined. )

Out of the group of four, Audrey and Rose ended up waking up the earliest. Audrey was there first to rise to make her usual rounds checking the nearby surroundings for any signs of other people. Audrey did these checks almost every day turning the same stones, lifting the same carpets even wearing the same clothes when she had to. She had to do these things to throw off her ever-increasing number of pursuers. Rose, on the other hand, was woken up by the combined efforts of a cool breeze and Alys the spirit in her head.

"Is this the spot?" Rose looked at one of the more marked portions of the map in Audrey's hands. "Let me double-check to make sure," Audrey ran her hands along the moss-covered stone until she found a similar crown shape carved into what she recognized as the door. "This is the place alright, but we want to get in I might need your help forcing the door open. Do you have anything that might help with that?"

< You could always wildshape but that could leave you be drained if whatever's decides to attack. >

Rose took a second to consider her options. She couldn't help but notice how aged the stone was then it finally clicked. "Audrey, how durable would you say that pickaxe you have is?" Audrey removed her trusted tool and looked at it in the morning light. "It's been thought a lot but it gets the job done, why do you ask?" Rose was still staring at the door, "let's just say I have an idea for now."

"Here you go, and just so you know if it breaks your buying me a new one," Audrey said with her usual wink and smile. "I really hope this works because I barely have any money to waste on me." Rose gestured for Audrey to step back, and once she did Rose hit the wall with all she had. The pickaxe head snapped off of its handle flying backward into the cracked wall behind them. Audrey looked at the rusted, iron head of her now broken tool and let out a hearty laugh. "Well that could have gone better but at least it's not stuck in one of us."

"Y-yeah I'm also glad nobody got hurt, but at least I put a dent in the door." Rose join in Audrey's laughter although she sounded more nervous as opposed to amused. Audrey noticed this and smacked Rose on the rear. "Come on what's with the nervousness it's just a pickaxe, an easily replaceable object that held no true value. I keep multiple, there's no need to worry about money." Rose's face went cherry red as Audrey continued to fill the hall with her echoing laughter.

< I'm really starting to like her. I think you should try and take her with you when it's finally time to leave. >

After the initial plan failed both Audrey and Rose tried the next best thing, rose focused on the limited amount of god energy within her. The markings began to glow as patched of fur began to grow. "This is going to be loud." Audrey thought out loud. It took all of Rose's mental strength to not lose control but she was doing good so far. She pulled her clawed fist back using her strain as a focusing point.

< Stop trying to hold back the energy it's not good for your body as it is now, you need to let go. >

"Knock knock!" Rose released her cocked arm sending her fist flying into the weakened door. It hit the other side with a resounding thud as the pair found themselves staring into another dust-covered room. "Look at you go, Rose, you take the left I'll take the right." When Audrey didn't get a confirmation, she turned around to see drenched in sweat looking more pale than usual. "Did you hurt yourself? We can take a break if you want." Rose was panting as she held herself against the nearest wall, "I'm...fine...just need to...calm down a bit."

< Don't do that again even a small about of a god's energy can destroy a mortal. If you're going to use your powers it needs to be all or nothing at least for right now. >
