Dungon Crawl 3

(Audrey's POV)

I had just witnessed Rose do something I had only seen her do once before. I stared at Rose without saying a word as a person I had just teased change into a hybrid of beast and person. I couldn't help but observe as this creature attacked with enough force behind it to destroy something that had been standing there unphased for centuries. "Let's make sure to under no circumstances be on the receiving end of one of her claws," I spoke to myself thought internally.

The fact that it only took one strike filled me with a fear that I hadn't felt since my first time at the gallows. Even now I could still see the cruel gaze of unfeeling eyes that hid behind the executioner's dark hood in my sleep. But what I saw back then and here now wasn't something devoid of emotion. When I saw Rose tearing into the throats of those cultists, all I saw was a ravenous beast. It was terrifying, it was gruesome, but most of all it was exhilarating.

With the door broken down our last goal was to claim what we discovered which only made my morning better. However, these feelings soon faded when I heard Rose collapse against the wall as she struggled to breathe. I asked if she was doing alright and said yes, but even an idiot could tell something was wrong. I mean the girl looked like she was knocking on death's door, but I had to take her word for it. "Alright let's check the room. I'm starting to feel a bit better after regaining my breath."

(Third Person)

"Doing that must've taken a lot out of you, are you sure you're doing okay?" Audrey asked trying to strike up a conversation. "I feel fine, I was merely attempting something different that didn't go as I'd hoped," Rose answered with a half-truth.

< That's certainly a more delightful way of saying you nearly killed yourself. >

Rose dismissed Alys's words as she and Audrey stepped into their recently made opening. The scent of stale air and rotting paper wafted out of the enclosed space as the pair found themselves staring at the decrepit remains of a bedroom. A thick layer of dust and cobwebs covered the room, making it hard to tell what was trash and what wasn't. "Let's see what we've uncovered," Audrey said wasting no time as she approached a wooden chest sitting at the foot of the bed. The chest didn't have a lock, so it was easy to flip up the lid and go through its contents.

A slightly frustrated groan slipped past Audrey's lips when the chest only contained a few pieces of gold and some old clothes. "Who do you suppose this use to belong to?" Audrey said pulling out a red scrap moth-eaten of cloth. Rose, however, couldn't answer Audrey because she was focused on a noise she was hearing. The noise was faint and difficult to identify, but Rose could swear it sounded like something breathing softly.

"Audrey, what are the chances something survived being locked in here for years?" Audrey by this point was done examining the chest and instead found herself searching through an old standing wardrobe. "The odds are slim, but if something is indeed hiding in here I can almost guarantee two things. It won't be human and even if it is it won't be pleasant, because who's ever caught someone stealing from them and responded positively?"

Rose listened to Audrey's words and continued to search with a bit more caution. "While I still have your attention, can you tell me what you think of these?" Audrey said as she held up a decently preserved set of clothing. The clothes didn't look like anything special. A simple shirt made of simple white cloth with a gold trim running up the sleeves, the pants were made of similar materials minus the gold accents. "I think they look nice, but I'm not quite sure they fit the style you have going on," Rose joked.

"So you are capable of something besides looking nervous, that and going red from the lightest bit of teasing. I mean, you've only known me for a few days, and yet you melt so easily." Audrey shot back with a grin as she began taking steps toward Rose. "I would personally love to see what'd happen if I were to actually try."

Their faces were only a few inches apart when a creature leaped from the ceiling while letting out a deafening screech. Its skin was pale, and its claws were covered in dried blood and pieces of torn flesh. "I guess this will have to wait until a later time."
