Chapter 23: Fortunate to Have Escaped, Fleeing the Asylum (5)
Ji Younai ran as quickly as she did when she escaped the asylum, not daring to turn around or waste a single second!
Gong Siyu reached the doctor's office at the end of the corridor before Ji Younai did.
He swiped the access card and with a beep, the door was opened!
The office was pitch black, and the only light source was the dim cold light that was coming in through the window.
Ji Younai didn't dare to switch on the lights because she knew very well that there were surveillance cameras in the doctor's office too.
There were three white coats hanging behind the office door.
Ji Younai picked out the smallest one and looked at the nameplate on her chest, leading her to realize that it belonged to Chen Meijia.
'Eh, isn't this the female doctor who shot me with the stun gun the other day and acted like she was close to Gong Siyu?'
The two of them moved swiftly and shrewdly, forming seamless cooperation.
"There you go, hang a stethoscope on your neck. You'll seem more convincing!"
Ji Younai hung one around her neck and tiptoed to hang another one around Gong Siyu's neck.
She also took away a box of cocoa beans from the table on her way out.
After disguising themselves successfully, Gong Siyu and Ji Younai sauntered towards the door, side by side. They swiped the access card and made their way to the nurses' station, walked out of the glass door, and turned to wait at the elevator.
They were lucky enough to have not encountered any security guards in the VIP ward, where there would be guards patrolling round the clock.
Gong Siyu planned to board the elevator to the first floor in their white coats and leave the asylum openly in the middle of the night.
However, the reality was often different from dreams.
When they arrived on the first floor, Gong Siyu was stunned to see the tightly shut electric iron door, which was guarded by security guards who were standing on the left and right side of the door.
The two guards seemed to have heard the commotion and were looking at Gong Siyu and Ji Younai.
She reacted quickly and pulled Gong Siyu along with her as she started scurrying away. At the next second, she heard the security guard yelling from behind. "Who's there!?!"
In a hurry, they found a room that had a sign which stated 'storage room' and sneaked in after opening the door with their access cards.
The next thing they heard were the sounds of two security guards running through the door.
In the darkness, Gong Siyu's gaze was especially somber.
It was silent in the storage room, and there were no other sounds except that of their rapid breathing and heartbeats.
There were constant sounds of the security guards patrolling. They could not go out for the time being. Ji Younai took out the lighter from her pocket and began checking the miscellaneous items in the messy storeroom.
Ji Younai suddenly asked a question softly in her cute and puerile voice.
"Gong Siyu, do you think that there will be tools like a vise in the storeroom?"
Gong Siyu pinched Ji Younai's face and whispered gently into her ear, "Shall we try looking for one?"
If they could find a vise, they would be able to break the barbed wire and escape through the window.
The storeroom was rather messy, and there were many items in it.
They looked around, but they could not find a vise.
Using the cold light of the cellphone screen, Gong Siyu saw Ji Younai in another part of the storage room. She was staring at something and spacing out. He walked up to her and was surprised to find a small liquid nitrogen cylinder in front of her.
"What are you thinking about?" Gong Siyu asked in apprehension.
"This is liquid nitrogen!" Ji Younai's almond-shaped eyes were glistening as she pointed at the steel cylinder excitedly and said, "We can cut the barbed wire without a vise! We can get out!"
There was a look of surprise in Gong Siyu's narrow eyes. He immediately found Ji Younai to be really smart.
"You mean we can use the liquid nitrogen to cool the barbed wire outside the window?"
"Yeah! Liquid nitrogen will cool the temperature to about -190 degrees celsius, and the metal will become brittle. It will then crumble and shatter like glass once it's knocked!"
Gong Siyu immediately gave a thumbs up to Ji Younai, thinking to himself that she was a talent!
'Is this kid so proficient in Chemistry?'
Avoiding the security guards, Ji Younai and Gong Siyu, who was carrying the cylinder of liquid nitrogen, found a windowed office. They swiped their access cards, entered, locked the door after themselves, and in one swift motion, began cooling the barbed wire outside the window.
Gong Siyu was in charge of doing the laborious work while Ji Younai was responsible for lighting and reconnaissance.
It took less than half an hour for Gong Siyu to crack half of the barbed wire with liquid nitrogen.
Taking in the cool, fresh midnight air that was blowing onto her face, Ji Younai watched as Gong Siyu jumped out of the window nimbly. He then stood outside and extended his hand towards her. "Come here, it's a bit high, I'll carry you down."
Under the night sky, insects and birds chirped incessantly.
Ji Younai crouched on the window sill, her almond-shaped eyes glistening as she gazed at Gong Siyu, who was extending his arms to her.
The night breeze blew his hair gently as he stared at her with his charming and deep eyes which resembled a starry sky that was drawing her in.
Her heart was beating rapidly like a deer jumping around in it.
He carried Ji Younai down from the window sill and took a big stride forward in the vast and empty parking lot of Ninth Asylum. He then began sprinting like a madman.
"Am I heavy?"
"You're very light. You need some nourishing."
"Huh? I thought you'd say that I'm like a pig!"
Ji Younai said meekly while Gong Siyu carried her.
"Why so?"
In the dark night, Gong Siyu discovered that there were many surveillance cameras outside the hospital as well. He stared at two that were not far away and seized the gap between the time that the two surveillance cameras would overlap. He sprinted quickly again, stopping only after reaching a patch of holly under the fence.
Gong Siyu put Ji Younai down.
With a pout, she muttered softly, "Because the male leads in television dramas always say that the female leads are like pigs when they pick them up!"
Hearing her answer, Gong Siyu burst into laughter, and he suddenly smiled alluringly in an evil manner. He lowered his head and asked in a charming voice, "Oh? Does that mean I'm the male lead and you're the female lead?"
He quite liked that analogy.
Realizing what she had said, Ji Younai's pale little face immediately turned rosy as she was filled with shock.
"I'm not going to talk to you anymore! You're bad!"
After pounding Gong Siyu's chest with her tiny fist, Ji Younai saw Gong Siyu squatting down abruptly.
"Come on, step on my shoulder, and climb up the wall."
Deep down, Ji Younai was resistant to the idea. "No, I'll be hurting you by stepping on you!"
"Can you climb the wall on your own then?"
"…"
Ji Younai had no choice but to step on Gong Siyu's shoulders, relying on his 1.87-meter-stature to climb up the wall.
"Stay still up there and don't move. Jump only when I tell you to, understand?"
Sitting on the wall, Ji Younai wobbled backward and accidentally kicked her shoes off, causing them to fly away. Gong Si Yu was protecting her at all times, fearing that she would fall and hit her head till it bled.
She pursed her lips and said, "I can't keep troubling you all the time. Do you really take me for a weakling? I can jump off myself too!"
'It's just over three meters tall...'
Just as Ji Younai was about to jump, she heard an unhappy exclamation from Gong Siyu who had helped her get up the wall. "Don't jump! Listen to me!"
He then climbed over the wall effortlessly and leaped onto the ground, opening his arms to Ji Younai once again.
"You can jump now. Come on, I'll catch you."
"…"
"Jump into my arms, don't miss!"
"…"
'Jump into his arms?'
'Are we going to have intimate contact again?'
But I'll get shy and blush!
Ji Younai nonetheless jumped because she heard someone yelling from behind her.
"I just saw two people running towards the fence! Go see what's going on!"
Ji Younai, who was being hugged by Gong Siyu, struggled and tried to find her shoes.
The two of them began running like lunatics in the dark forest.
However, as they ran, Ji Younai was alarmed to sense that something was wrong.
"Gong Siyu, do you feel that someone is following us behind?"
Gong Siyu, who was holding onto Ji Younai's tiny hand and running in front of her, turned around and thought, 'There isn't anyone, is there?'
