Bar and Fear

Walking over to the Bar, I see that it is emptier then usual. Normally old drunks and ex soldiers are here ranting about the past and now they are all gone.

Walking up to the bar and taking a seat, I am only able to sit and face the old bartender. Noticing his only customer is a little kid the bartender walks over and pours into a mug as he walks over to me.

"Roy, what are you doing here? I thaught you of all people would be searching the sewers now for that demon!"

"What, no why would I do something is all effort no reward. Where is everyone, why is the bar so empty?"

Grabbing the glass full of orange juice, that the bartender had gotten him. Roy began listing earnestly to the old man.

"Roy they are offering instant nobility status for finding and killing the demon, tho that is just a rumor."

"If it's just a rumor why bother telling that?"

"Because these idiots actually believe it, they think it is some rare event seeing a demon. But outside this city they are everywhere, I swear city people sometimes are stupid as rocks."

"They are everywhere outside the city? What's it like with them everywhere?"

"Well when I was younger I used to work for a traveling circus, I served drinks then and still do but we got to see many different places. I personally have seen towns with zero influence from the church, and they are weird."

"So they exist, places that have no church or anything the savage lands?"

"Savage lands is the term you city folk use, they are people just like here but simply don't have any church. You are being fed many lies, whatever not like knowing the truth will make money in the city."

The old man looked down, and stopped talking.

Roy knew he should listen to someone who had seen the outside, this old man who had no family is the only man he has ever found who has traveled outside and talks about it. Everyone else is odly silent, and look fearful to say anything.
