Questions

"So what are demons?"

Looking up the old man glanced at Roy and thought for a moment, he then smiled and sat down.

"Want the truth or the lie everyone else here has yet to tell you?"

"The truth and the lie."

Smiling even more, the old man reached over and refilled Roy's drink.

"Ok, first the lie. Demons are creatures spawn from darkness and prey on humans to survive, they are deceivers sent by the devil to tempt us all into evil. They eat children and prey on innocent women, they are butchers in the dark, and destroyers of cities and people."

I thought for a moment, and recalled the fear in the market. The old woman who constantly had her guard up and how the bar was completely empty.

"Now give me the truth."

Looking surprised, the old man rubbed his chin and looked at Roy like a new toy.

"What, you don't think that was the truth?"

With a tense face Roy looked up at the old man.

"I want the truth."

"Ok ok, relax kid. The demons are in reality just as complex as humans."

"That's it? The truth is they are complex?"

"Yes, like people there are good ones and bad ones. But to say all are bad is wrong, sure some are like what people say they are but kid not everything is black and white."

Thinking about it, it made some sense. The demons must be like us if he is right, this old man has never lied to me yet so he is probably saying the truth.

"So kid, don't fall in line and do what the mass's do. Don't start thinking that somehow everything is black and white, those church people always want you to hold a grudge for reasons you don't get yet."

It is scary, if he is telling the truth then people are currently hunting a person down. They are definitely out for blood, and like he said for reasons they don't even understand! The so-called demons are just like us, this old man is the only person to ever claim that.

"So go back to your home kid and avoid those people, they won't hesitate to kill you if they think you know something about that demon. If you are chased by them go to the guards or run in a store, just stay off the streets."
