Chapter 189

The language barrier between Taylor and the deathstalkers was leading to a misunderstanding. Their tribe was friendly with humans, but given their appearance, the humans feared them. As the deathstalker approached Taylor fired a warning shot into the ground that made them all jump back.

"If you come any closer the next one is in your head." Demitri threatened as he raised his shotgun.

A few of the warriors ignited their essence as the armor spread along their body, and a large tail rapidly sprang from their back. Their entire bodies resembled a knight clad in black armor. The length of their tail would allow them to easily strike over the shoulder, and when paired with their weapons engaging them would be difficult.

Seeing this Demitri began sweating, and slowly moving his finger towards the trigger. Realizing they couldn't communicate a large deathstalker named Karim raised his hand as the warriors lowered their weapons.

"Keep going I'll watch them," Taylor announced.

Demitri wanted to fire, but after hearing the gunshot the others began walking out. Seeing they were outnumbered, and the strange armor they possessed he stood down. Everyone continued walking past the village while Taylor slowly trailed behind. The entire time Karim was within view Taylor didn't lower her weapon.

"What kind of weapon was that?"

"Had to be an artifact, but the better question is what language was that."

"I've heard a demon speak it before, but they were human."

"We should help them."

"Clearly they don't want help."

"But the direction they're going is dangerous right now."

"They can't understand us and already see us as a threat."

"He's right there's nothing we can do."

"We have our own threats to be concerned about anyway."

Taylor's group continued forward through the grasslands only stopping to get water. They were still within the deathstalker territory allowing them to move in peace, but they were already back on the road.

"I don't think people live out here. How could they?" Miguel sighed.

"I still think they weren't a threat. With their numbers, we could've been killed easily." Wesley stated.

"We had guns that's why they didn't," Demitri replied.

"You didn't see how ineffective it was on the first creature we fought. Their bodies were clad in armor as well, and I doubt it could've pierced, to begin with." Wesley stated.

"Those barbs looked lethal and given how the hornets sting was I don't wanna see theirs in action," Denam said while glancing back.

"A headshot before they expanded that armor would've worked just fine," Miguel replied.

"That creature that attacked the camp took three to the head and got up with a smile," Brian said while cringing at the memory.

Demitri heard this wanting to deny its possibility, but glancing at the others who witnesses the ghoul he realized it was no lie. While searching for food they saw a group of people at the distance. All of them were clad in armor, and their outlines appeared to be humans. He wanted to wait till they were closer to ensure they weren't another species again.

'I wonder what they're looking for?'

As they drew closer Demitri saw they were indeed humans. He got out of the bushes calling attention to himself, and the soldiers noticed the unusual man waving them down. They smirked seeing someone trying to address them.

"You don't know how happy I am to see a friendly face," Demitri said while walking towards them.

The soldiers looked at each other confused about the language, but one man among them understood it. He had short red hair with green eyes, and his name is Dagon. Dagon is a demon simply disguising himself as a human in an attempt to hide its true nature. Once the local tribes see demons roaming about they sound alarms for the slavers.

'How does a human know this language?' Dagon had a puzzled look on his face.

"Don't take action without my orders." Dagon relayed to his comrades.

"Seems like you been having a hard time out here. This isn't the kind of place to be wandering around alone." Dagon said while glancing around.

"You can understand me?" Demitri asked with excitement.

"Of course I do. Do you need something to eat?" Dagon asked retrieving some supplies from his ring.

Dagon's men looked confused why he would treat a human with such hospitality. All of them were treated like tools to be discarded, and Dagon would rarely address them directly. He found humans to be filthy creatures but knew they had their uses. Dagon wanted to find out how this man could speak such an ancient language, and find any allies Demitri may have.

"How did you do that?" Demitri investigated.

"Magic of course. Do you want some or not?" Dagon asked.

Demitri having survived on limited rations the last few days quickly took Dagon on his offer. They sat to eat, and Demitri told them about the things they encountered on the way through. Hearing the story of a different world seemed like nonsense, but seeing the weapon, and phone Demitri had it was hard to deny.

'People from another world is something unheard of, and it could start a bidding war.'Dagon smirked.

"Where are the others?" Dagon investigated.

"They are scrounging for supplies right now," Demitri replied sampling their booze.

"Wanna take a trip to our camp? There's a lot more food, and booze." Dagon asked.

"That sounds great, but we have some injured. So it could take us a while to get there." Demitri responded.

"We have some healers at our camp so we can help them recover," Dagon stated.

"A doctor would be nice. If you wanna follow me we can tell the others." Demitri replied.

Dagon knew they would be an easy target, and followed behind Demitri with a grin. When the others saw Demitri returning with people they were happy to see humans.

"Their armor matches something from the medieval era," Jeremy stated.

"More like an RPG," Kenny replied.

"Can they understand us though?" Zess asked.

"Who cares it's better than the company we've had lately," Chris replied.

"One of them can understand us. They also have food, shelter, and doctors." Demitri said while walking up to the others.

Taylor signaled at Miguel as they both rapidly drew their guns.

"What are you doing!" Demitri shouted trying to put their hands down.

"If they are here to be friendly why have they been gripping their swords since they saw us." Taylor retorted.

"You're a shrewd bitch arent you," Dagon smirked.
