Okay I know I usually start these off with dumb questions but I'm pretty sure that these needs know the question. Because all of us have had dating issues at one time or another. I seriously have to convince my friends I am straight, but don't have game. And here to share our feelings of us love trouble is the rom-com Melancholy by Josh Nickerson!
Summary
Our stories follow Honey Melon (yes really) a beautiful young girl at the ripe age of 30 trying to find love. However, these ventures often go about as well as stopping a fire with gasoline.
Characters
Honey: Our main heroine is honestly a fascinating character. On the surface, she is very casual, dense and matter of fact women but often is far more fantastical in her taste in men and romance which has been noted within the series. Honey is also very well, melancholy, as she is frustrated and saddened over the fact that her life isn't the fantasy show, was hoping for when she graduated. The burdens of growing up have strained her emotionally. All of these cuts to bone for me as I also fear where my life is going in at this very moment. So Honey's for me is easily a person to root for because that's like rooting for me as well.
Rudy: one of Honey's best friends rudy has a massive crush on honey but never dares to speak up.
Pepper: Rudy's sarcastic friend Pepper is a loyal friend but who isn't afraid to knock you while your down but pick you back up when needed.
Eddie: A misogynistic scumbag. Nothing more, nothing less.
Overview/Good stuff
Melancholy is usually in black and white with an art style that is a mix of both the Archie comics and Panty and stocking. The webtoon, while being mostly comedic, can lead to many chapters that have a more somber tone of us growing older and things in our life-changing. This webtoon can strike a chord with older readers in its tone and more racy jokes. It is a long story of trying to find yourself as much as it is finding love.
Epilogue
Melancholy is a very bittersweet webtoon dressed in an innocent glow. If there is a message to be said, it is one of moving one and not burdening the nature of the past so you can move forward. And speaking of that this will be my last spotlight for a while until I can get more oriented with my other stories and hobbies in my life right now so, for now, this is the last consecutive spotlight for a while. But in the meantime let's see where the light shines next.
