'Sometimes, what you're looking for comes,

when you're not looking at all.'

-Kara-

Oh god... that was close call. why did MY neighbor have to be that yummy playboy?

My thoughts trailed off as we arrived at school.

'Oakcrest High'- the name notified that it was the right school. Suddenly I felt nervous, I missed my old school, my familiar territory.

"Kara! we're here. You gonna get out or do I have to drag you out?" Killian's voice broke through my gloomy thoughts. I saw that he was still assessing me with annoyance.

"Yeah, alright. I'm coming out you jerk. No need to be so bossy."

I can't believe we're twins, I grumbled in my head as we entered the school and went into a room indicating 'Office'. The students were yet to arrive so the corridors and the parking lot weren't crowded yet but I knew that soon, long before we left the office, they would be.

A slender woman wearing a nurse's attire sat behind the desk, her auburn hair going well with her light skin. Her name tag identified her as Ms.Karp.

"Umm... excuse me, Ms.Karp?"

She looked up, blue eyes scrutinizing us. "Yes?"

"We're..."

"The new students, I know. Killian and... Kara Snow is it?", she asked.

"Yes, Ma'am"

"Here are your schedules, your locker numbers are on there as well as the room numbers where each class will be held and your teachers' names. Since you're new here I would like to inform you about the rules and regulations of this school. There absolutely will not be....."

I tuned out as soon as I heard rules and regulations, all I could think of when the dreadful first day would end. I was desperate to reach my first class so that school would begin and then end faster.

As it turned out, my guess had been right; by the time Ms.Karp was done with us the school had filled up. All around me were chatty teenagers, frightened nerds, gossiping bimbos... well you get the drift. It was the usual but for me, this was new turf.

As soon as people noticed Killian and I going towards our lockers, the gossiping and loud noises were replaced by whispers and curious, contemplating looks. I spotted a number of the girls staring in our direction, most probably appraising my brother.

Stop looking like that bimbos, you're gonna make me sick...I thought. Oh, did I forget to mention he was really good looking? Well, at least the effect he has on the ladies was no secret.

Some seconds later, I realized that I had reached my locker.

"Hey sis, mine's some lockers down. I'll get going. Good luck! See you at lunch."

Killian gave me a quick kiss on my forehead and went off to find his locker. The whispering and glancing continued but I ignored them and put the extra books into my lockers, taking the books I needed for the first few periods before lunch.

Suddenly the whispering ceased and I looked up to see what had happened. I saw a gorgeous redhead walking towards me, flanked by two other girls. She walked right up to me, 5'9" in 4-inch heels, looked at me from head-to-toe, and finally spoke.

"So...your the new girl, huh?"

"Yes, Kara Snow. And you are..?"

"Madison DeMare. These are Tamra and Ireland ", she said pointing to the brunette and the blonde behind her.

"So Kara...what do you say about joining us?", she said, pointing towards herself and the girls behind her," You may not know yet but here you'll soon find that some people hold more popularity and power than others. And you may want to choose the right crowd right at the beginning. I may be able to help you with that."

Seriously, have you lost your mind? right crowd- you? just admit you wanna get close to me so you can snag my brother. I laughed inwardly.

"I'm sorry Madison, but I think I can decide that for myself, thanks."

"I knew you'd agree..wait...you.. what?..", she said tongue-tied for a moment.

"Just remember Kara", she sneered, " you will regret this decision and when you do... don't come to me because I won't take you back. You had your chance and you lost it."

"We'll see"

"Ugh"

With that, she walked away, definitely fuming. No one's probably done that before...

"Good going girl... That ought to teach her..."

I turned around to see a pretty brunette with somewhat familiar sapphire eyes looking back at me.

"Hi. I'm Chloe Pierce, by the way."

"Kara Snow."

"Hi, Kara. That was some good going there. The bitch deserved it."

"Err.. thanks...I guess." I replied flashing a smile.

She smiled back. "So..what's first period?"

"French with Madame Cheyenne"

"Hey, that's the same as me. C'mon let's go or we're gonna be late. You don't want detention on your first day do you?"

Turns out classes aren't so bad with a friend around. The familiarity between me and Chloe confirmed my intuition that we would be really good friends- maybe BFFs- for life. Throughout the boring class, she filled me in on school politics, latest gossips, introductions to names of the populars, and all about her and her friends.

Calculus was finally over. Thank god... I'm starving...

"I'm so hungry"

"Oh C'mon then. I'll introduce you to my friends too."

Our chatter died as soon as we entered the cafeteria.

Fight! Fight! Fight!

A huge crowd was gathered in the middle of the cafeteria and apparently, a fight was taking place. Chloe and I managed to squeeze to the front where I instantly recognized my hot neighbor throwing punches at some other guy.

"Caden!" Chloe's voice cut through the high pitched sounds. Caden?... Caden Pierce? but wasn't that her brother's name she had told me? Finally, realization dawned on me and I understood why her sapphire eyes looked so familiar; they were the same eyes I had gazed into just that morning.

Suddenly I heard Chloe screaming

"Karaaa....."

I was reeled back to the real world, just to see a fist coming at me, aiming straight for my face. Shit! I can't dodge this. I'm not allowed to blow my cover! And then my thoughts were cut short by a sharp pain on my cheek, knocking me out.

The last thing I remembered was the feeling of being lifted into someone's arms and a husky voice whispering in my ear, "It's gonna be okay..."
