Like Mother Like Daughter

Ten years ago…

A little girl with short blond hair ran through an icy field. A shorter girl, probably a year or so younger than her ran after her.

"You can't catch me!" The little girl teased, running faster.

"Ash, get back here!" The other girl shouted after her.

Ashlyn continued running when she suddenly bumped into something.

"Oww." She groans.

"Watch where you're going Ashlyn, we wouldn't want you to get hurt." A man with spiky white hair said.

"Sorry Frost. Me and Crysie were just playing."

"Well have fun sweetheart. Stay safe."

"Okay!" And with that she ran off.

Jack Frost just chuckled as she ran off. Ashlyn continued to run, but stopped as she heard Crystal stop screaming her name. She sat down as she looked at a beautiful white flower with blue tips.

"Boo!" A familiar voice yelled from behind her, startling her.

"Crysie, stop sneaking up on me!" Ashlyn complains.

"Stop calling me Crysie." She retorts.

"But it's cute." She complains.

Crystal rolls her eyes. "Your turn." She says with a smile.

"That's no fair, you always just disappear." Ashlyn whines.

"It's not my fault I was born with magic." She retorts.

"I wish I had magic too." Ashlyn complains. "You family's so cool, you guys can fly and make ice and stuff, I'm just told how to be a princess."

Crystal's lips curve into a smile as a thought comes to her. "Maybe I can teach you!"

"I don't think it works that way Crysie. Aren't you still learning from your dad?"

"You're right." her smile faded before coming back with even more force. "So he can teach you!" She beams.

Ashlyn just sighs. "I don't think you get what I mean."

"It doesn't hurt to try." She states, grabbing Ashlyn's hand and pulling her over to her parents.

"Crysie let go of me! I can walk on my own." She whines.

"Nope. We need to start now." She tells her before letting go and running over to her dad.

"Daddy!" She says with a smile as she runs up to him and hugs him.

"Hey princess. How are you?" He asks, hugging her back.

"Daddy, me and Ash want your help."

He cocks his head to the side in confusion.

"Daddy, is it possible for you and mommy to teach Ash magic too?"

He froze. Was it his place to tell her?

"Umm…"

"What's wrong daddy?" Crystal asks with a frown.

"I don't think I can learn magic." Ashlyn mutters with a frown.

"Actually, the opposite." Someone says walking up to them.

"What do you mean?" Ashlyn asks with her face lit up.

She inhales sharply before giving Ashlyn a smile. "You already have magic." She admits.

Ashlyn's heart stops and a broad smile forms on Crystal's face.

"What do you mean?" Ashlyn asks, biting her lip. "Daddy always said I didn't have magic."

Elsa and Jack both frowned. "Your parents are afraid of your magic." Elsa says.

"B-But why? Magic's so cool." Ashlyn says.

"Something happened a long time ago. Someone cursed them with magic."

"Mommy told me that story. Didn't they fall in love because of it?"

Elsa chuckled. "They did." She says, still biting her lip.

"So why are they so scared of magic?"

"That's something they'll have to tell you." Jack Frost said with a frown, although Ashlyn also noticed a bit of hate in his eyes.

"Why can't you tell her?" Crystal asks with a frown.

"We-We promised her parents we wouldn't tell her" He says, although both of the little girls knew that was a shitty excuse.

They decided to change the subject. "Does that mean you can teach me how to use magic?" Ashlyn asks with a hopeful look.

Both adults chuckle before giving her a smile. "We'd love to." Elsa says. "But you need to promise us something."

Ashlyn nods slowly, confused on where this was going.

"Y-You can't tell your parents. That we're showing how to use magic, nor that you know about it." She says nervously.

Ashlyn looks confused, but gives her a small nod.

"When do we start?" Crystal asks excitedly.

Her dad chuckles. "How about now?"

Six years ago…

"Ashlyn?" Crystal asks. "Wake up! Wake Up!"

Ashlyn rubs her eyes before looking over at Crystal. "What?" She asks, sleepily.

"Let's go have some fun. Your parents are asleep let's-"

"They won't ever let me do that." Ashlyn complains.

"So let's do it now."

"Crystal I-"

"Please…" She begs with her eyes bulging.

Ashlyn sighs. "You're way too old for puppy dog eyes Crysie." Ashlyn scolds, but her tone remains gentle.

"No, you are. I still have another year to go."

Ten is too old for puppy dog eyes too." Ashlyn groans.

"They still work though." Crystal says with a smirk. "Besides, this isn't the first time we've snuck out to play."

"No, but it's the first time we've done it with my parents around. You know how they're so strict about magic."

"So?"

"You're way too much like your dad." Ashlyn jokes.

"And you've been around us too much." Crystal replies

Ashlyn giggles. "No. Play on your own."

"We'll go for a flight. I know it's your favorite thing." Crystal says with a hopeful look.

Ashlyn's face lights up. "Fine. But my parents can't know. They still don't know I have magic."

"Successfully hid it for three years? Nice."

"It's me. I'm like the most secretive person ever." She jokes.

"Just come on." Crystal whines, grabbing her hand.

Ashlyn smiles and the two run over to a window. Crystal pulls it open. "This is really high." Ashlyn mutters.

Crystal scoffs. "What? Don't tell me you're scared of heights."

"I-It's not that. My magic doesn't always work and-"

"Then don't let go." Crystal says with a smile.

"B-B-"

But it was too late. Crystal grabs her hand and rushes towards the window, pulling both her and Ashlyn out. "Crysie I-"

"Wahoo!' Crystal yells as she starts to raise into the air, holding on tightly to Ashlyn. "Come on Ash. Open your eyes!"

"A-are we?"

"Yeah, come on. You're gonna miss all the fun." Crystal complains.

"O-Okay." Ashlyn stammers as she opens her eyes, her face lighting up as she sees the beautiful kingdom beneath her. "It's beautiful."

"Stop acting like this is a new thing." Crystal whines. "We've done this plenty of times."

"Yeah, with your parents, and in the middle of the day. It's the middle of the night."

"Just come on. You're gonna miss out on all the fun."

She nods and the two fly up higher, beginning to blend into the clouds.

"Crysie, I can't see anymore. We're too high."

"Then open your eyes again!"

Ashlyn chuckles as she realizes what just happened. She opens her eyes and sees the beautiful stars above her

"Oh my god! Crysie, it's beautiful." Ashlyn cooes, nudging Crystal, however her eyes were set on something else.

"A-Ash." She stammers, her eyes glued in the opposite direction of Ashlyn.

"Huh, what is it Crysie?" Ashlyn asks, looking towards Crystal. She freezes when she sees the shadowy figure Crystal was staring at.

"I-Is that-"

"Get away!" Crystal shouts, shooting a shard of ice at the figure.

The figure's eyes flash a bright yellow. "Crysie... run!" Ashlyn shouts, pulling on her hand. Crysie nods and begins to fly away, Ashlyn holding on tightly to her hand. They hear a loud shrill coming from the shadowy figure as it begins charging at them.

"Crysie! Faster!" Ashlyn shouts, as she tightens her grip on Crystal's hand.

"It's a little bit difficult when I have to carry you with me." Crystal mutters.

The shadow gets louder, closer, closer, until finally…

"No! Ash!" Crystal shouts.

She let go…

Crystal tries to fly down, but is stopped by the shadowy figure ramming into her. She tries to shoot a shard of ice at it, but the creature just continues to charge at her, almost as if it went straight through the creature.

Meanwhile, Ashlyn continued to fall to the ground after she let go of Crystal. "What the hell Ashlyn? That was the dumbest thing you've ever done!" She shouted at herself as she continued to plummet towards the ground. She began to get closer to the ground, closer, closer…

"Come on Ashlyn! Think!" She thought. A memory came to her mind…

"Remember, if you ever start to feel scared, your magic won't work anymore. Just relax, and let the wind guide you. Close your eyes and...fly. All you have to do is believe you can fly. That you'll be okay. Let your magic loose and take control. Fly with the wind. Let it catch you. Don't fear it. Use it."

Ashlyn closes her eyes as she gets closer and closer to the ground. "Just believe you'll be okay and…"

She feels her heart start beating faster and a cold wind blows around her. She opens her eyes to see she's no longer falling, but that she's just levitating in the air, mere inches away from the ground. "You can fly." She whispers, using her magic to propel herself upwards, back towards Crystal.

Crystal continued to shudder in fear She felt her magic weaken, "Not now...not now!" She begs.

The shadow continues to advance towards her. With one last breath before she felt like she was gonna pass out she shot a beam of ice towards the shadow. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Ashlyn flying upwards towards her, on the opposite side of the shadow. Then it hit her. Her magic didn't hit the shadow. The beam continues to go directly through the shadow stopping when…

"No!" Crystal shouts, but it was too late. Her magic continued on it's course and hit Ashlyn directly in the forehead. Her body fell limp as she began to plummet towards the ground. Crystal tries to use her magic to fly down quick enough to catch her best friend, the shadow chasing after her, but no luck. Just as Ashlyn was about to touch the ground a huge gust of wind blew from behind her, a man running over and catching her.

"Ashlyn?" He asks, shaking her awake, but nothing.

"Ash-"

"Daddy!" Crystal cries, flying into his arms.

"Baby, what happened?" Elsa asks as she runs over, her hand clasping over her mouth as she sees an unconscious Ashlyn, a small streak of her usual blond hair turning a crystalline white.

"No…" She cries as she runs over and picks up Ashlyn. "Her skin's ice cold."

"Mommy. I'm sorry. It was an accident." Crystal cries, her embrace on her dad tightening.

"I know sweetheart. I know." Jack says as he cuddles his daughter closer.

"What's gonna happen to her?" Crystal asks.

Elsa's grip on Ashlyn tightens. "I-"

"Ashlyn!" A voice roars.

King Adam and Queen Belle run over to them, glaring daggers at Elsa and Jack Frost. "What did you do?" Belle whimpers, staring directly at Ashlyn.

"It was an accident." Crystal whimpers.

"What did you do?" Adam roars.

"Beast! Calm down!" Jack retaliates, raising his voice. "Yelling at each other won't help her."

"Won't help her? My daughter is dead because of you!"

"I'm sorry. I-It was an accident." Crystal whimpers.

"Who did it?" Belle asks.

Jack was about to speak up, but Crystal stopped him. "I-I did." She says.

"You?" Belle asks.

Crystal nods slowly. "I-I killed her…" She whispers, tears streaming down her eyes.

Adam's eyes fill with rage as he grabs Crystal's arm, pulling her out of her dad's grasp.

"P-Please stop. You're hurting me." She cries.

"You killed my daughter." Adam growled, pulling her farther and farther away from her parents.

"It was an accident." Crystal murmurs, only her able to hear.

"No! Beast, you can't take her!" Jack yells, running towards him, only to fall to his knees as his daughter disappears from his view. Tears streamed down his eyes as he fell to the floor crying. "No. Not her too." He cries. "She doesn't deserve that."

Belle takes Ashlyn out of Elsa's arms, flinching upon contact with her ice cold skin, carrying her back home.

They truly lost everything. The person they often treated as a daughter, was just killed by their daughter, who now was being taken away too. Elsa ran up to her husband as they cried into each other's shoulders. Now, they had nothing.

The shadowy figure with glowing yellow eyes disappeared into the night, having watched the scene unfold. From the shadows someone watched the two cry their hearts out. Now they had lost everything. They would break their hearts, shatter the hearts of the entire Frost Family, and with the girl out of the way, they finally could have their revenge, make them remember what it felt like to fear someone.

Crystal woke up in the back of the limousine. It was empty. It was still dark out, but she could see the shimmering golden bridge she was travelling on. As she looked out the window of the limo her heart stopped. Right in front of her, was an island with a swirling black cloud over it. The Isle of the Lost. That's where she was going. She'd never get to see her parents again, her friends, A-Ashlyn. Everything came flooding back into her mind as she remembered everything that had happened. Her best friend in the whole world, someone she considered a sister, was dead because of her.

"I deserve this." She thought to herself. "This is the home of villains, and I am one."

However, as she neared the Isle she began to feel dizzy. She felt her senses start to slip away, all being overpowered by a sense of cold. Usually the cold didn't bother her, so why did it now?

She felt a wave pass over her. She was on the Isle. The barrier just took away her magic. The cold grew stronger, almost as if she was in direct contact with a sheet of the coldest ice, but this time, it hurt her, just like it hurt others. She began to shiver to herself, all of the warmth she usually felt in her body being replaced by the cold. Her eyes rolled into the back of her head and right before she lost consciousness she heard the door of the limousine open and the worried calls of her parents.

She woke up a few hours later. Her body no longer felt the same cold she felt before, it being replaced with warmth once again. Her eyes fluttered open, expecting to be in the dark gloomy allies of the Isle, but she wasn't. She was back in her own bedroom. The blue walls covered in ice and pictures of her and her family. Among those pictures was a photo that instantly brought her to tears; a photo of her and Ashlyn at her ninth birthday party.

"But now...that can never happen again. Ashlyn is gone."

The thought instantly brought her to tears, but she snapped back to reality when she heard voices coming from behind her door.

"She killed my daughter!" A voice roars, that was no doubt King Adam, or Beasty as Jack Frost liked to call him. Crystal felt herself tense upon the mention of Ashlyn.

"And you trying to send her to the Isle almost killed her!" Another voice shouts.

"Daddy." Crystal realizes.

"Please Adam. She's our daughter. She doesn't deserve to die." Her mom cries.

"And my daughter did?" He roars.

"Oh please, stop pretending to care about what happens to her. It was an accident. She never meant for it to happen." Jack snaps.

"But now because of it she's dead. And stop accusing me of not caring about my daughter!"

Crystal heard her dad mumble something under his breath, but she couldn't make it out.

"She can't survive there. No matter what she did she doesn't deserve to die. She's only a kid."

"So was my daughter and that monster killed her!"

"My daughter is not a monster!" Elsa yells.

"And that may be another thing…" Another voice says.

"Fairy Godmother how is she? Is she really-"

"No. She's not dead."

Crystal felt her heart skip a beat.

"Although, she might as well be." Fairy Godmother murmurs.

All the parents turn to look at her in shock. "What do you mean?" Belle asks.

"She's in a coma, but this one's different. It's like some force is preventing her from waking up. She was violently shaking and...I think it may be best to just let her go."

Everyone's faces dropped. "No…" Elsa mutters.

"I know what you all must be thinking but-"

"No!" Jack Frost yelled, a small bolt of ice shooting out of his staff.

"Mr. Frost. You need to calm down. I know you care about her but you can't let that get in the way of your judgment."

"Let us see her." Jack Frost demands.

"I don't think that-"

"Let us see her!" He roars.

"Jack, calm down." Elsa whispers in his ear.

The ice on the floor begins to melt as Jack tightens his grip on the staff. "I'm going to go see her. No one is to go near my daughter. If you lay a finger on her than I-"

"Jack." Elsa says, raising her voice.

"Right." He says, turning his attention to her. "Check to see how she's doing. She probably will want to know what happened."

"Of course she will babe. She's your daughter." Elsa teases, kissing his nose.

Jack smiles before running off past an angry Beast and protesting Belle. Elsa chuckles before giving the Beast family a deathly glare and opening the door to her daughter's bedroom. As she opens it she realizes her unconscious daughter was not so unconscious, considering she was sitting right outside the door with a pair of white gloves on.

'I'm glad to see you're awake honey." Elsa says, walking over to her daughter.

"What do they mean by let her go?" Crystal asks, her voice more of a whisper.

Elsa walks over to Crystal and hugs her. "She'll be okay." She assures her.

"W-What do they mean? What are they gonna do to Ashlyn."

Elsa sighs sharply before bringing her daughter in closer. "Ashlyn is asleep right now, but...she's in a lot of pain. They want to...let her die peacefully."

Tears dripped down Crystal's eyes as she began to frantically shake her head. "No. No. They can't take Ash. Not...not because of me."

Elsa pulled her daughter closer. "No. They won't. We won't let them. Ashlyn is a fighter. She'll come back. She'll wake up. I know she will."

Jack Frost walked into the room Ashlyn was lying in. Most of her hair was now a crystalline white. Her skin was getting more and more pale and her eyes had black bags under them. Her breath was slow, but steady, and she didn't seem to shake too badly, just a small shiver. Small bits of ice began to take place over her skin and her skin was ice cold.

"We won't let you go." Jack promises as he sits down next to her.

She remains still, her body no longer shivering. She was just completely calm upon the sound of his voice.

"I know you're strong enough to get through this. Whether they know it or not you're a fighter. You're determined. If you want to come back you will, just like how when you wanted to learn magic you did. It's all up to you. Your magic can protect you from Crystal's power. Just please, wake up. We miss you Ashlyn. We miss our daughter."

Ashlyn's POV

Everything was dark. The last thing I could remember was the beam of ice shooting towards me and the scared look on Crystal's face. I felt cold. Unbearably so. I felt like I might freeze to death, but then it stops.

I can hear the same voice I grew up with. Not the loud strict voice of my father, but the calm, soothing voice of the person I grew up with. The person I saw as a father figure. The voice became clearer. "I know you're strong enough to get through this."

It's not that easy. For some reason something's keeping me here.

"Whether they know it or not you're a fighter. You're determined. If you want to come back you will, just like how when you wanted to learn magic you did. It's all up to you."

My magic still doesn't work often.

"Your magic can protect you from Crystal's power. Just please, wake up. We miss you Ashlyn. We miss our daughter."

"I miss you too dad." I hoped I would get some reaction from him, but he just stayed the same. I made my decision. "I want to go home!" I shout.

I can feel a power within me grow, but it stops just as it came.

"Don't even try dear. You can't get out of here just by asking," A dark voice says.

"And where is here?" I ask.

He chuckles darkly, "You're dying, and right now you're in my domain."

"Your domain? Whose domain is death?" I ask, it couldn't possibly be him, right. He's a myth.

"I have a feeling that you already know," He sneers as blue flames come into view.

It is him, it has to be.

"I just want to see my family." I whimper.

I could've sworn I heard him growl in anger when I said that. "Who is your family?" He asks, well, more like he threatens, I didn't need to see his expression to know he was angry.

I shudder, if he's who I think he is he might try to kill me if I tell him the truth, "E-Elsa and-"

"The truth!" He demands.

"King Adam and Queen Belle."

I shouldn't have said that, but at least I know that it's who I thought it was. I only know that because there was a huge burst of flames, my skin probably should be burning but I didn't feel anything except immense heat, it just didn't hurt. It kind of felt nice.

The flames were a burning blue color and I could hear him shouting things in the distance, probably shouldn't have said that.

"Do they treat you well?" He growled.

What? That's what he's asking? Does he expect me to say no, that I hate them, that they treat me horribly, yeah, tough luck.

"Yes," I mutter, terrified that he'll kill me for saying that.

He sighs, "You might be able to see them again soon, but I need you to listen for a while."

"You promise?" I ask. I don't really trust this guy, especially since he's literally the god of death, but he's the one stopping me from leaving.

"I promise."

"Fine. What do you need?" I ask.

The voice chuckled darkly again. "It's time you learn about your father's mistake. About the cruelty of the Isle."

I cock my head in confusion. Daddy always said that the Isle was the home of all the villains. That they were treated the same as Auradon kids and had good lives.

The voice chuckles again. "Your daddy lied to you."

"What do you mean?" I ask. I know that my dad's not perfect, but I don't think he'd lie about something like that.

"I think it's time someone told you." He says.

"Tells me what?"

The truth about the Isle." He answers flatly. "About what the children there go through."

I shudder at his words. Please say it's not really bad.

"Children there suffer through things worse than anything anyone should ever go through. Do you want to know it?"

I nod meekly. "Y-yes, but…"

My thoughts drift back to my family, to my mom, to dad, to Ben. Oh Ben, he's probably so worried, and I keep shutting him out because of how mom and dad treat Crystal's family. My family. It's okay to have two families, right?

Despite how I sometimes shut them out, it doesn't mean I don't love them. I do, and it's not possible they could do something so bad, maybe I should just go home. To see them, to see Crystal, to see Ben, to see both of my families, I love them both. I can't just leave them, I can't just...die. And I can't let them blame Crysie for it, it was an accident, right?

But would he really let me leave? He's sort of terrifying.

"Leaving so soon?" He asks, slightly disappointed.

I was about to nod and ask how to get out, but something came over me. I shook my head. "Tell me about the Isle."

I watch as a smile crawls up his pale colored face. "It all began

Third Person POV

Jack Frost was about to leave the room when he saw Ashlyn start shaking, but this was worse than shivering. No, she was shaking violently. He could've sworn he saw tears well up in her eyes as she began to shake harder and harder. She slowly began to whimper. Her voice a quiet whisper. "No. Please. Don't."

Jack ran over to her and placed his hands on her ice cold skin. Slowly her body began to warm up. But she continued to shake in the same violent manner. He tried to calm her down, but nothing. However, something flashed in his mind.

"Is it possible that she's with him? Did he finally find her, and what is he doing to her now?"

Back in Crystal's bedroom there was another heated argument.

"You are not killing my daughter!" Elsa yells, standing in front of her daughter who was hiding behind her leg.

"It's what she deserves!" Beast snaps. "She is a villain. She deserves to be there with the rest of her kind!"

"And that's exactly what you think about villains, huh? They did something to hurt me so now lets torture both them and their children." She mocks. "Well guess what! You are not doing that to my daughter!" She screams.

Everyone was taken aback. Queen Elsa almost never reacted that way. There was only that one time.

"She is a threat." Belle says calmly. "If we cannot send her to the Isle without risking her death then we won't risk it, but she isn't allowed to come near Auradon ever again."

"What do you mean." Elsa asks calmly, although it was clear she was just holding her frustration in.

"It means she isn't to cross Auradon's borders. Auradon must think she is on the Isle for the death of my daughter."

"She's not dead." Elsa growls. "And she's not-"

"We have a problem." Someone says frantically.

"Babe what is it?"

"I think he finally found her." Jack reveals.

Elsa cocks her head to the side in confusion.

"I think he's trying to hurt Ashlyn." Jack mutters.

Elsa shakes her head frantically. "No. Why would he?"

"I don't know." Jack Frost answers simply, causing Elsa to set her daughter down and run towards her husband. They gave Crystal a smile who smiled back and ran towards Ashlyn's room.

"I said to stay away from her!" Beast yells, but they ignore him and run into the room Ashlyn is in.

As they stepped in they noticed something, she wasn't shaking anymore.

"Ashlyn. Sweetheart, please wake up." Elsa says as she grabs Ashlyn's hand, but as she did she notices something. It's not cold anymore, it's actually warm to the touch.

Ashlyn's POV

He showed me everything. About the Isle. What those kids go through. Kids my age go through that! I couldn't stop tears from falling down my cheeks. All this, because of my dad.

"There's more. Do you want to hear it?" He asks.

My curiosity was winning, when suddenly I heard a voice. "Ashlyn. Sweetheart. Please wake up."

I instantly recognized the voice. "Mom." I mumble. Not my real parents that apparently did those horrible things he talked about. The mom that was there for me no matter what. Elsa. Suddenly, I wasn't so curious anymore.

"I just want to go home." I say.

He looked upset but nods in understanding. "Then you can go." He says. "I'll tell you the rest another time."

I smile. "Yeah, maybe next time I almost die." I joke.

Out of my complete and utter surprise, he laughs. "Maybe Ashlyn. Just remember, the Isle is a part of Auradon too."

I smile. All my life I was taught that people like him were villains. That we were the heroes. What he told me. It might just have me thinking the opposite. All of this...was because of my family. I had to fix it.

And with one last thought I wave to him and begin to focus on how much I want to go home. About how much I miss it. How much I miss them. How much I miss my best friend. Shit, Crystal probably thinks I hate her. And with a last thought about home, and the wave of his hand, along with bright blue flames forming around me, I left, him disappearing as well.

"Please come back Ashlyn." A voice called out.

And almost as if an answer to their plea, my eyes flutter open and my lips curve into a smile.

"I'm back."
