Music of the Spheres

A quill pen is writing music on a sheet of paper, The Doctor is singing softly to himself while lying on the floor of the TARDIS control room, quill pen in hand, bottle of black ink beside him, sheets of music on the floor in front of him.

Jared is playing Animal Crossing New Horizons with the Puella Magi Holy Quintet, and the five Magical Girls are on his island, "So, what do you think of my island?"

"It's all over the place." Mami said. "You have paintings of us."

"That's because I care about the five of you immensely." Jared said, happily.

"Is that why you placed pictures of us on the beach near your house?" Sayaka asked.

"Yup."

"I don't get it. What's the appeal of this game?"

"Homura, it's simple, really. This game gives you the freedom you need to build whatever you want." Sayaka said.

The Doctor whistles a tune, and writes the music, then puts the feather into the ink bottle then stands rapidly, gathering the music sheets, some of them, and putting them on a music stand.

"Oh, what's your town tune?" Madoka asked.

"Fuwa Fuwa Time." Jared said, happily.

"A HoKago Tea Time song, huh." Kyoko said. "Isn't that song all fluff?"

"What's wrong with fluff?"

"It's too cute. Even for you."

"What's wrong with cute things?" Madoka asked.

"Nothing."

Behind them there is an alarm sound from the console.

"Not now, we're busy." The Doctor said.

The bleeps continue.

Kyoko sighs in irritation, and turns to the console, "Okay, the hell do you want?"

She checks the console, a message flashes up.

ALERT. TELEPORT. BREACH.

"Hey, you idiot, you better see this!" Kyoko said.

Jared stares at the message, "What? Why now?! I think I remember what happened, maybe. I don't know. What happens here?"

As he stares uncomprehendingly, there is a flash of light as the Graske is transported down from above into the console room.

The Doctor turns to face the creature, standing upright, "Oi! Get out of my TARDIS! I let down the defences for one second."

The Graske is a small creature about three feet eight inches in height, with dark clothing, pink/brown face with three tentacles growing out of its head and hanging down the back. The voice is deep.

"Must speak to the Doctor, Jared, and the Puella Magi Holy Quintet." The Graske said.

"I don't care. You're a Graske, you're a sign of trouble, and you're ruining my Animal Crossing session with some of my favorite girls." Jared said, looking at the Graske.

Homura inclines her head towards the right, "Get out."

The Graske looks up, listening to the gentle sighing sound like a breeze, but melodic, "But that noise...beautiful sound in the air. What is it?"

The Doctor looks up, listening, walks over to the Graske, "If you must know, that's the music of the spheres."

"Music of the spheres, is what?" The Graske asked.

The Doctor crouches down to be on the same level as the Graske, "Well - you get all those planets revolving round suns, and all those suns revolving round in a Galaxy, and all those Galaxies revolving round each other. If you take the gravity patterns, feed them through the TARDIS harmonic filter that, Mr Graske, is the sound of the Universe."

"Or as I would like to call it, Xtreme Vibes." Jared said, looking up, lost in the sound. "This song, by some of my friends on Earth. It's being sung, even in the future. Their Symphogears lived on. Them being the sound of the universe is truly inspirational."

"Universe? Sounds wonderful." The Graske said.

Madoka grins, "Yeah, it does sound wonderful. Doesn't it? The universe. I think it's worth protecting."

Kyoko snaps out of it and looks at the Graske, "Well, you're not staying."

"No. Graske came to warn all of you." The Graske said.

"About what?" Mami asked.

The Graske points behind The Doctor, Jared, and the Holy Quintet, "About that."

The Doctor turns as a black hole begins to appear in the middle of the wall of the TARDIS, not far from the doors.

"Oh! Now..that looks like a space portal." The Doctor said.

"Thank you, Captain Obvious." Kyoko said.

"Is it dangerous?" Madoka asked.

"Nope, it's harmless." Jared said, walking over to it.

"He's right. It's just a hole in space." The Doctor said, crouching to look at it. "But I wonder what's on the other side?"

The Doctor and Jared walk over, so does the Graske and the Holy Quintet.

The Doctor looks out. He is now, effectively, facing the watching audience, "Hello."

"Oh, where are we?" Sayaka asked, looking up at the camera, looking round. "Who are those below?"

Laughter from the audience.

"Wait, a minute, that's my Earth. That's my world. Is that the Albert Hall?" Jared asked.

More laughter and cheering.

Jared speaks louder, "I want to know for sure. Since this is a story. A fanfiction. Is that the Albert Hall?"

Some start to say 'yes.'

"Is that really the Albert Hall?" Sayaka asked.

Louder audience reaction, saying 'Yes.'

The Doctor, Jared, and Sayaka grin.

"Oh, brilliant. Hello." The Doctor said, waving.

"Oh, I've always wanted to go to the Albert Hall." Sayaka said. "I can't believe this is how I'm experiencing it."

"I forgot you have a thing for music." Kyoko said. "Especially classical."

"Y'know, I'm laughing at the thought of you using music to annoy people." Jared said, laughing a lot.

"Just because you think I'm like Nonon doesn't mean that I'm like her completely." Sayaka said.

"Anyway, hello."

Some say 'hello.'

The Doctor shakes his head, "No, no, no, sorry, sorry, you'll have to shout. Jared said, hello-ah! I can't have him stealing my thunder."

The audience shout 'Hello!' The Doctor, Jared, Madoka, and Sayaka laugh.

"Listen. My name's the Doctor, I'm a Time Lord, this is Jared, he's human, this is the Puella Magi Holy Quintet, they're Magical Girls, but that is an awful lot of people." The Doctor said.

"That doesn't look like a normal concert." Homura said. "So, what are they all doing there?"

"Oh!" The Doctor said, raising a forefinger. "Wait a minute, it's the Proms, is that the Proms? Are you in the Proms?"

"What's the Proms?" Madoka asked.

"Oh, it's this concert that's in the United Kingdom. They play classical music. And it's seasonal." Sayaka said. "I think it's during the summer. But is that audience really there?"

The audience called back 'yes.'

"Oh! I love the Proms, I was at the very first Proms." The Doctor said, and he is scratching behind his ear. "Eighteen Ninety-Five, I played the tuba. I was brilliant."

"The hell? How could you play the tuba?" Kyoko asked.

Some laughter.

"Sayaka, you know Carmen? Habanera?" Jared asked.

"What about it?" Sayaka asked.

"Oh, the Doctor had a role in the song. He was doing the triangle. Got drowned out in the mix."

Sayaka leans over, "Wait, wow! Is that the orchestra down there?"

Sudden realisation, the Doctor raises his hands.

"Oh! Wait there!" The Doctor said, running across the control room, grabs most of the sheets of music from the stand, and runs back clutching them to face the camera again. "Because…"

"I think it's best you guys shut your ears." Sayaka said, reading the sheet music.

"Is it bad? And loud?" Mami asked.

"Yeah."

"Oh." Homura said.

The Doctor clears his throat self-importantly, "Funny thing is, I've just been composing something myself."

The Doctor holds up the music sheets.

"I said to Beethoven, I can rattle off a tune, he said 'Pardon?'" The Doctor asked.

"Talk about a comedy routine." Jared said, laughing a little. "I would rather take one of your theme songs to be honest."

Jared looked back at the Puella Magi Holy Quintet. Some of the audience laugh.

"But...I've just been inspired by the music of the spheres. Or as Jared knows it as, Xtreme Vibes. I've written my own symphony. To honor Symphogear. Yeah! And, if I can send these pages through the portal, then the orchestra can play it. A brand-new piece of music, composed by me. Ready for this, orchestra? Stand by. Three, two, one!" The Doctor said, tossing the papers towards the camera...and in the live Proms sheets of paper come down which are gathered up. "That's it, that's it."

The Doctor waits as they pick up the papers.

"So, what's the plan?" Sayaka asked.

Some in the audience applaud.

"Oh, how would you like to conduct?" Jared asked, looking at Sayaka.

Jared took out a conducting baton out of his pocket and loads of song sheets for the orchestra, it contains the song Another Episode.

The fanboy handed the conducting baton to Sayaka knowing how much she wanted to try and do this.

"There you go, hurry up!" The Doctor said, waiting and he exhales impatiently. "This portal isn't gonna stay open for long. Right…" He indicates with his finger. "Now, so…" The Time Lord holds up his hands. "Er, if you don't mind…"

"And here he goes." Jared said, snickering.

The Doctor reaches into his inside jacket pocket, "...Mr Conductor…"

The Doctor takes out his sonic screwdriver.

"...Stand down." The Doctor said, extending the sonic screwdriver. Ben Foster the conductor walks off. "I'm in charge of this one. Quiet please."

The Doctor behaves like a conductor with a baton, "Shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh! Silence, settle down."

"How long is he gonna keep this up for?" Kyoko asked.

"I don't know." Homura said. "It could be a while."

"Y'know, I'm glad I picked you guys up from that alternative timeline." Jared said. "After everything I've been through these last few years."

"You really needed us, right?" Madoka asked.

The Doctor is pointing suddenly to the top left of the screen, "Oi...settle down."

The orchestra prepare the new music sheets.

"So...ladies and gentlemen, and children, this is the worldwide premiere of 'Ode To The Universe.' And…" The Doctor said, with his eyes closed, conducts.

Music plays, which is like the sound made by an orchestra when tuning the instruments. A very short piece lasting only a few seconds,

The Doctor waving his arms throughout, then waves cut just as the music stops, "Oh, come on, that was brilliant!"

"More like an amateur. Sayaka said, telepathically.

"True." Jared said, telepathically. "You think you can top him?"

"Yeah."

The Doctor tosses his sonic screwdriver and puts it away, basking in applause, "Thank you. I thank you. No, no, no, I thank you, really. You're too kind."

"Sayaka, after you." Jared said, as Sayaka walked over to the portal and tossed the papers he had on him through the portal. "Crap."

"Um, Doctor…" Madoka said, turning around to see that the Graske is not there. "The Graske…"

"That's the thing about planet Earth...What?" The Doctor asked, running. "What?"

The Doctor runs round the console.

"Where did he go?" Mami asked. "Oh."

The Graske starts to appear in the Albert Hall.

The Doctor stops by the portal and faces the audience, out of breath, "We've lost the Graske. He must have slipped through the portal. Have you seen him?"

"Over there!" Sayaka said, looking down to the left. "What's he holding?"

The Graske fires the water pistol at Ben Foster.

"It looks like a water gun. Albert Hall, you have a Graske on the loose." Sayaka said.

The Doctor feels his jacket pockets in surprise.

"Oh...oh...oh!" The Doctor said, looking around, then back, throwing up his hands. "And he's stolen my water pistol."

A cellist is having to defend herself with her cello as the Graske fires the water pistol at her then other people in the orchestra.

"Hey! Graske, stop that, please behave!" Kyoko said, angrily. "What do you think you're doing? Squirting people with water?"

"Yeah! Do you know you'll ruin the strings?" Sayaka asked.

The Graske hears this and shakes his head.

"Oh! He wasn't trying to warn us, he was trying to find a shortcut to your Earth, Jared. If he escapes he'll go round the whole planet, causing trouble, stealing sweets, making smells…" The Doctor said, throwing up his hands and rushed over to the console with Jared.

"Wait, I got a plan." Jared said, turning a knob, and he twisted a coral dial. "That's me thinking here. All we have to do is…"

"Reverse the polarity of the neutron flow, and pull that Graske…" The Doctor said, pulling a lever. "...back into the TARDIS!"

"I think he deserved that." Homura said, and there is a flash and smoke in the Albert Hall. The Graske falls from the portal into the console room.

The Doctor cries out in triumph and dashes round to another control panel.

"Not fair!" The Graske said, annoyed.

"Oh, you think you can mess with my Earth? My home universe! I'll give you not fair! The Doctor will reverse that teleport. And he'll send you all the way to the other side of the galaxy!" Jared said, smirking. "You interrupted the Animal Crossing playtime, remember? I was showing off my island to these five cute girls here."

The Graske protests, but the Doctor aims the sonic screwdriver at the Graske, making a circling motion with it.

"So, you wanted to see your world again." Homura said, as the sonic screwdriver whirrs. "I suppose."

"Yeah." Jared said, when the Graske cries out, and vanishes in a blip of light. "I do miss being there. But I love seeing all of time and space too."

The Doctor throws up the sonic screwdriver and puts it back in his jacket pocket, then walks back over to face the audience again, "Right. Well, that was fun. And a little bit mad. But…"

The Doctor holds out a hand.

"I...I..I've got to close this portal before there's any more trouble. It's nice to see you all." The Doctor said, and he makes to turn away, but turns back. "But one more thing. Just remember. Music isn't just orchestras and pop stars and...special people with albums and downloads and concerts. It's you. 'Cause the music of the spheres is all around you." The Doctor said, looking around. "When you're on your own, just close your eyes, and you'll hear it. Music, inside your head. 'Cause everyone's a musician. Everyone's got a song inside them. Every single one of you. Bye!"

The Doctor walks off to the right, "So, Animal Crossing?"
