Chapter Two

Jacob went into the building and set up at his work station. He was the one that attached the movement sensors to the Security-Bots.

"Working hard or hardly working, ay Hector?" Jacob said, jokingly.

"Well, you know me, always looking for a way to serve my country." said Hector.

Hector was relatively new around the factory. Fresh out of college, all Hector wanted to do was help in the effort to stop the DianVirus. He tried out for the roll of officer to stop people from breaking the lockup laws but he was too scrawny.

Jacob spent the day, just like everyday, attaching sensors to Security-Bots. The guards could stop rule-breakers of course but the Bots were a helping hand. They would destroy every trace of the rule-breakers so they wouldn't infect anyone else.

Around 1:00 the bell rang. Everyone stopped what they were doing, formed a single-file line and walked into the medical area of the factory. It was generous of President Peloscer to have clinics built into all the workplaces so people could receive their daily vaccines right at work.

As Jacob worked, he thought how lucky he was to live in such a progressive society. He didn't know much about the past but what he did know was that his people used to be enslaved by another, almost extinct, type of people. His people were eventually freed but were never really equal until the early 2020's when the government took actions to create more equality. Or at least that's what the history classes say. His kind used to live on farms working their fingers down to the bone and were mistreated by their masters.

"GET BACK TO WORK!" shouted Jacob's boss.

"Sorry sir," Jacob said nervously. "I must have spaced out." Jacob returned to making the pieces and attaching them to Security-Bots. He did it for so long his fingers started to ache. After many hours, it was time to go home.

"All in a day's work." Jacob said with a smile.
