Chapter 19: First Love

As night fell, the blue haze of day lifted to reveal the stars. Lijuan took a sit by her desk and wrapped her fingers around her coffee cup beside her graphics tablet. It had been a while since she'd used it, and she felt like trying out new things, like she used to when she was still a teenager. But Wu crossed her mind again, and she frowned, letting out a deep sigh, feeling guilty for ignoring him for so long.

Her silence made him feel like he was at fault. Everything would've been avoided if he just stayed away from her parents and Hong. She was sad for a while, and she didn't want to come up with any excuse for not picking his calls or replying to his texts. 

A week was enough to give him the wrong idea that he was to blame for her mother hitting her. Xiulan not accepting Wu was as good as saying he wasn't good enough for her daughter, and lijuan felt terrible whenever her mom's toxicity came to her mind.
