Chapter 42: The Thousand Tree Forest

Inside the specially arranged plane, our group was seated together, preparing for the journey to the Thousand Tree Forest. The forest, located outside human civilization, was a highly guarded area, and unauthorized entry was strictly prohibited. The school had taken precautions to ensure the safety of the students during the transportation, providing a secure and stress-free experience.

As the plane took off, I observed the comfortable seating arrangement. Unlike commercial planes, where seats were arranged in rows to accommodate as many passengers as possible, this plane had four-seat configurations. Two passengers faced each other while the other two sat next to each other. It allowed us to sit together as a group, providing some space for conversation and relaxation.

Thomas, ever composed, sat calmly with his eyes closed, seemingly unperturbed by the excitement and nervousness filling the cabin. On the other side of me, Sarah and Anna engaged in an animated conversation. Their discussion ranged from various topics, seemingly unrelated to the upcoming test, as if they were on vacation rather than en route to an important exam. Listening quietly, I tried to follow their conversation, even though I sometimes struggled to grasp the context.

Suddenly, Anna shifted the conversation towards future plans. "Hey, William, what are your plans after this? Have you considered entering a normal university?"

I smiled lightly, understanding her concern. "I don't plan to attend any university after this. As you know, my current condition leaves me with little hope in that regard."

Anna persisted, suggesting alternatives. "But even without magic, your grades in theoretical tests are impressive. There are some excellent non-magic universities where you could easily gain admission. Graduating from those institutions would open doors for you, even if you don't graduate from a magic university."

Appreciating her suggestions, I shook my head. "Thank you for your concern, Anna, but I have made peace with my situation. Let's focus on your plans instead. What about both of you?"

Anna glanced at Sarah before responding. "I'm going to the Central Magic University with her." Her gesture indicated Sarah, confirming my expectations. Given their talent and ambition, it was the natural choice for them to further their magical education.

Curiosity piqued, I inquired about Thomas. "And what about Thomas? Where is he headed?"

Sarah's answer surprised me. "Thomas will be attending the Third Army University."

I was taken aback by the revelation. I had assumed Thomas would remain with Sarah since he worked for her. Recently, I had discovered that Thomas' family had served Sarah's family for a long time. Given their close age proximity, Thomas had been chosen as her bodyguard in Miston city. Initially, Sarah's family had sent her to live a quiet life here, and it seemed logical for them to provide her with someone to serve and protect her. However, with Sarah now finding the cure for her problem, it was likely she would return to her family, and I had assumed Thomas would follow. Clearly, I was mistaken.

Reflecting on Thomas' silent nature and his unwavering dedication during our training sessions, I realized that the disciplined environment of an army university suited him well. The Third Army University was undoubtedly the right path for him.

Engrossed in our conversation, we suddenly heard an announcement, signaling our arrival. The plane was about to land, and the students were advised to remain seated until it came to a complete stop.

As the plane touched down, a collective sigh of relief spread among the students, grateful for a safe arrival at our destination.

Stepping out of the plane, I couldn't help but be awestruck by the magnificent sight before me—the Thousand Tree Forest. The dense canopy of towering trees stretched as far as the eye could see, leaving me at a loss for words to describe its beauty.

Taking a deep breath, I composed myself and refocused on the task at hand. The practical test awaited us in this captivating forest. Without grand aspirations, I simply hoped for a smooth and uneventful experience during the test.
