Chapter 76: Whispers of the Spirit Race

Sarah continued her fierce battle against Jack atop the Tower of Shadows. Their clash of powers intensified, shaking the very foundation of the tower. Each strike and counterattack reverberated with an unyielding force, as if the outcome of their duel would determine the fate of the entire realm.

Sarah's Holy Blessing Constitution allowed her to tap into an extraordinary wellspring of power. Her attacks surged with divine energy, overwhelming Jack's dark magic. She pressed forward relentlessly, her determination unshaken by the obstacles before her.

Jack, realizing the increasing threat Sarah posed, began to employ more ruthless tactics. He conjured shadowy illusions, distorting the perception of reality and making it difficult for Sarah to discern friend from foe. The Tower of Shadows seemed to come alive, its dark essence empowering Jack's every move.

Amid the chaos of their battle, Anna and William found themselves trapped within the protective barrier. They observed the intense clash from the barrier's sanctuary, unable to intervene directly but fully aware of the gravity of the situation unfolding before them.

Looking at Anna's confused face, William understood how she felt. He had been in the same situation when he first entered the tower—a place full of twists and turns. At one point, William thought he was a goner, but then suddenly he escaped the disaster, safe and sound. Reflecting on his own experience, William knew that if it wasn't for the barrier, he would never have been able to escape that dangerous situation easily.

"Then tell me, how did you manage to be in this situation? And what do you mean by turning things around?" Anna asked, seeking answers directly.

"It's like this. When I entered this tower, I came across Jack sitting under this pagoda. Of course, a fight was inevitable, but as I was getting ready to fight, a weird thing happened. I'm sure he was going to use this tower itself to attack me, but then suddenly, this pagoda reacted and threw him out. It looked like he was thrown out using spatial transfer. But that's not the only weird thing; the spatial spell was actually a position displacement magic spell, and the target for the displacement exchange was me. In other words, he and I switched places in a split second," William explained carefully.

Space magic was a rare and powerful ability, wielded only by a select few. As the Greatest Emperor of the human race, Emperor Alexander was undoubtedly capable of using such magic, or he could employ mages skilled in its usage. That's why not only Anna but even William himself wasn't surprised by the appearance of such magic. Instead, what puzzled him was how the magic had been triggered.

This mystery was supposed to take a long time for William to unravel, but he never expected the answer to be so simple that it appeared as soon as he started thinking about it. Now, Anna must be thinking the same, and William couldn't help but feel amused as he looked at her expression.

"What are you looking at?" Anna asked when she noticed how he was staring at her.

"Nothing. You must be thinking about how the spell that brought me here and the spell that created this barrier, which also allowed you to enter, were activated, right?" William replied with a light smile on his face.

"So, what is it?" Anna asked, her curiosity piqued.

"It's me!" a voice suddenly spoke out, surprising Anna. It wasn't William answering her question—it was someone else. Someone else was there, and she hadn't even noticed!

Anna immediately turned her head, looking around to find where the voice came from. But no matter how hard she searched, she couldn't find any other people present.

"Little girl, where are you looking? I'm here," the voice continued, deepening her confusion. Anna scanned her surroundings again, but there was no one to be seen. How could she hear that voice if there was no one there?

Finally, Anna's eyes landed on William, who was pointing his finger upwards.

"Up?" Anna slowly brought her head up, looking at the roof of the pagoda. Suddenly, the roof changed color, displaying a dazzling array of neon lights.

"What? Haven't you ever seen a talking building before?" the voice said, further shocking Anna. She had never imagined that the pagoda itself was the one speaking to her.

"How is this possible? William, do you know what it actually is?" Anna immediately looked at William, urging him to explain further. She couldn't make sense of such a bizarre phenomenon without some explanation.

"Relax. It's not as mysterious as you might think. To be honest, even I was shocked when I first heard its voice. But now, after thinking about it, its background isn't actually that mysterious. If I'm correct, it's either a super-intelligent AI—which I doubt would ever appear during Emperor Alexander's reign—or it's actually someone from the spirit race, possessing this building. And if I'm correct, then the answer is only one—it's actually someone from the spirit race!" William revealed.

The spirit race—an incredibly rare and enigmatic race in the magic world. Anna never thought she would encounter a member of this elusive race here.

Unlike other races, the spirit race was unique not only because of their small numbers but also because of their special constitution. They were said to be naturally attuned to mana from birth, blessed with the ability to attract it. Additionally, they possessed strong mental energy, making them appear as the chosen race of the world. However, they carried one significant weakness—the lack of a physical body.

True to their name, the spirit race existed solely as spirits, lacking a physical form. Despite their exceptional talent compared to other races, the absence of a physical body rendered most of their abilities useless. Channeling mana typically required a physical medium, and without one, the spirit race had no choice but to possess objects. Historical records mentioned instances of spirit race members hiding within various objects, and if one were lucky, they might encounter such a spirit race member.

Now, Anna found herself experiencing this rare encounter firsthand, and it was no wonder she was in shock. The pagoda that housed them was not only a building but also a vessel for a spirit race entity, speaking to them directly.
