Chapter 4

I think I might be dead, meaning that I'm a ghost? No, this can't be happening! It's impossible! Ghosts doesn't exist, or so I thought. I need to find someone NOW! They have to know I'm buried in the forest. They have to now I've been buried ALIVE! I run and run and run! It's so dark out I can't see a thing around me. All I see is trees and grass and dead leaves and animals looking at me strangely. I see light....wait? There is light up ahead! I'm nearly there. I burst through the forest into the light of a cars headlights that's on. I run to the car to ask for help but halt in my footsteps when I see inside the car. It's Jason! My boyfriend is here to he.....until I see who he is making out with. My best friend Nancy since preschool.

Anger rumbles through me so bad I can feel the rage growing in my fists. Next thing I know my fist is flying for the driver side window. The window shatters and I look at my hands in surprise. Jason flies out of the car while Nancy cries out of fear. He is running around trying to find the culprit who smashed his window, but finds nobody. He climbs back in the car and starts the engine. I jump in the backseat quickly before they leave.

Now I'm sitting here listening to their conversation as if I'm not here.

"Jason? What was that back there? Who do you think smashed your window? And why?" Nancy says with a quivering voice.

"I have no idea, but when I find out their dead!" If only he new that I already was.

"I feel bad for cheating on Casey. Maybe she found out and that's why she ran away. Maybe it's all our fault! Omg! Did we cause all this?" Nancy starts crying again uncontrollably.

"I hope not Nanc. Maybe we should go talk to her mother and find out if they have heard anything yet?"

"Yes, please Jason! I just feel so bad. She is my best friend and now she is gone because of me!"

We arrive at my house and they walk to the front door with me right behind them. I'm not sure how to open the door myself. I'm still trying to figure out how I broke Jason's car window. My mom opens the door with bloodshot eye's and her hair in a very messy bun. I feel like crying but can't seem to get the tears to fall down my face. My mom says something that shocks us all.

"They found something...horrible!" She says with a pause.

"What did they find Lucy?" Nancy always called my mom by her first name.

"They found her shoulder bag near the park. There was a picture. A picture of Casey....lying in a....a-a rotten wood box! Looking peacefully asleep but with blood running down the side of her head. The photo had writing on the back. It said...'the last time you will ever see Casey James alive is in this picture. Sorry, but she broke me' and that's it. Nothing else!"
