CHAPTER 58: WITNESSING AN EVOLUTION (1)

It's been two weeks now since I left Excafol and the runt in the forest of Karnados. It's not the most dangerous place out there so I don't think I should worry too much. The news about what happened in Onklah still hasn't reached us. They shouldn't have any problems for a good while.
However, people talk more and more about the red light we all saw. To think that Excafol believes the little runt did it. It makes me so mad, I don't even understand why myself. Let's go to the guild. I will vent my rage on some bandits while I go to see them. There is only small ass quests today to kill ferocious gragoras. Tch, small-time quests for novices. That won't even be enough for my equipment maintenance.
"Look, the gnoll's killer is here."
"I heard she brought all six heads of the famous bandits from Karnados. Make you wonder who is the real monster."
That's why I don't like to work with people, always judging even when they don't know shit about you. Ah, the good times when it was just me and Excafol… If only that guy never came here.
Without realizing, I break the noticeboard a bit as I had placed my hand on it earlier. The man and woman who were talking behind me go 'hiii' thinking that I heard them. Well, I did anyway. A receptionist comes to me with small steps:
"Breaking the guild's properties is not good, you know?"
Anriette Kolil, a small girl, only fourteen years old, red hair, brown eyes, cute face. Well developed body for her age. Always acting mature even with an old woman like me.
"Yeah, I know that. I will pay for it. I am looking for a good quest near Karnados. Is there anything?"
"Hm, not on the board. There is a mage who is looking for Fangis's venom, however."
"The poisonous snake?"
"Yes. It is a special quest because he wants a skilled person to do it. novices tend to destroy the gland that contains the venom after all."
"Okay, I will take it then. It's not far."
"Okay, I will bring you the documentation."

After taking the documents and checking the quest's info. I take the carriage and go to the forest. I will reach their house tomorrow so I stop when the sun starts to set and hunt some Fangis. They like to hide in holes rather than hunting their prey actively like other snakes. I find five of them that night. the quest giver wants only a bottle full of their venom and with those five, I can fill a 1/10th of a bottle. The next day, I reach the house but, there are three problems: first, I don't see anybody. Excafol knew I was supposed to come today, he could have stayed home and wait for me at least. Men… I swear.
Second problem, the house's front wall is not the same, there is a whole part of it that is of a different color now. what happened here? Did Excafol try some weird experiments again? He has always been the experiment guy so I wouldn't be surprised.
Third problem, although faint, I can hear explosion sounds. A lot of them, coming from the west. Is there a battle there? maybe it is Excafol who is training? But then where is the runt?
"Only one way to find out, I guess."
I run to the source of the explosions, but I was not prepared for what I saw. When I reach the place, I have the most mortifying view of my whole life. Excafol flying while launching his special magic balls to somebody. And that somebody, wearing a brown armor is evading the shots, in the middle of a destroyed field, striking them even, from time to time, sending them back to Excafol.
Who is he? He is fast, and what?!!! He is using physical aura?!! No, not just that, he is using elemental aura as well! His weapon is shining weirdly, there is one, two, THREE?!!! Three types of elemental attributes of Angas. A mage?!!! Here?!!! Who can it be? A mage but also a skilled warrior at that. How? I have rarely seen a mage fighting on the front lines. They prefer the rear where they can safely unleash their scripts while we struggle in front. This is impossible, it cannot be. But…
While I was spacing out, a shot explodes near me, projecting debris. Excafol special script is even more powerful now. Excafol stops after looking at me, you have finally noticed me!!
"You have come already, I thought you would be here tomorrow. Sorry that I couldn't be here to greet you." Excafol is talking while landing. To think that this guy is about the only person I have ever seen flying.
Most people can use Angas to accelerate, but flying is another thing altogether. Though, he keeps saying the script is the same and he only modified the way to apply it.
"Yeah, you could have. But, who is that? Since when did you have such a skilled mage to train with? And where the runt?"
