A couple of weeks past and soon the sports festival came and went uneventfully for her. She simply helped with security by using her fox magic to duplicate herself to monitor multiple places that they couldn't get covered by other hired pro heroes. It was rather boring, but she did enjoy watching the students battling it out.
It was a few days after the festival and the students were now preparing for internships and she was to help confirm the placements with the teachers. Thankfully, Hounddog volunteered to help out with Vlad King's class, so she was left to help Aizawa.
It was a slow process despite the students only given a couple of days to submit the intern request forms. It usually took the ones who didn't get into the Pro Hero draft picks longer to choose since they had to choose from a list of forty. These choices were not exactly the best, so the students usually sulked until they had to turn them in at the last minute.
Kit let her eyes slide to look over at Aizawa who sat next to her typing on the computer. He finally got most of his bandages taken off and other than the deep scar below his right eye and his elbow scar, though you couldn't see the elbow scar that was still wrapped, he was back to normal. The only other thing that she noticed was that he seemed to need more eye drops than before. While she normally kept eye drops on her for her own eyes, she kept an extra bottle just for him just in case.
Taking a sip of her tea that was now cold, she set her eyes onto the last intern request she had for the day and spoke quietly to herself, "Where are you wanting to intern at, Tokoyami?" Her eyes scanned the page for a moment until she hit the area called 'Agency Name/I.D.' where she felt the breath leave her, "Hawks? In Kyushu?"
"Mm?" Aizawa looked over her way, mistaking her tone for confusion, and looked at the paper, "Oh, Hawks. He is the current number three hero. He is pretty famous, I guess."
"Famous?" She whispered, trying to remember the last time she had tried to research him, "I didn't realize he was famous…"
Now he seemed like he was the confused one, "He is mainly famous because he made history by getting into the top ten before he was twenty without going to a famous hero school. Do you not watch the billboards?"
"I don't watch television except when I hang out with you and Hizashi..." Her voice was distracted.
"Kit?" He called.
Her hand was trembling then, so she put the paper down, "Um…"
She shook her head; the thoughts in her head were making her head spin, and stood up. He stood up with her, but much slower and cautious trying to gauge what was going on. Taking a couple of deep breaths, she blinked her eyes rapidly to keep her watery eyes at bay.
"I'm going to go home for the day." Kit said quietly, gathering her things, "I'll make the call for you tomorrow."
Before he could reply to her, she was speed walking out the door and was soon out of the school building. It didnt take her long to get inside her house to slip on some slippers and began to pace in her sitting room.
She pulled out her phone, but before she turned on the screen, she tried to remember the last time she had tried to look up Hawks. She had never forgotten about him, but maybe she had unintentionally given up?
She turned on the screen to her phone and quickly did a hero search for him and several media articles popped up. Before she clicked on any of them, she clicked to enlarge a picture of him that showed him posing after a mission.
He didn't change much from the teenager she remembered except that maybe his features seemed more… mature? His wings looked like they had almost doubled in size from what she remembered and he seemed to have lost all the baby fat in his face. His muscle definition seemed to have grown in size as well, but nothing bulky.
His hero costume complimented his quirk quite well since it reminded her of some kind of aviator. Over his ears, he wore a set of yellow headphones, reminding her of Yamada's, but Hawks' square and the band seemed to disappear into his hair. Covering his eyes, he wore a thick yellow tinted visor. He wore a black shirt with a high neck that looked like a golden ripple design on the front. Over the shirt, he wore a thick buckskin colored jacket that was lined with what looked like white fluff, which she assumed was fur, and his hands were covered with dark brown-black gloves that disappeared into the sleeves of his jacket. His pants were cargo styled and matched the color of his jacket and held up by a belt that looked like it had a set of 'H' letters on it. His pants ended tightly mid-shin showing dark leggings or socks and his feet were covered by short black boots that looked to be zippered.
Backing out of the picture, she scanned through several of the article titles until she reached one that specifically caught her eye, 'Our Number 3 Hero a Playboy?'
Her finger hovered over the link several seconds, before she closed her eyes to click it open. She cracked open an eye then let the other one slide open slowly as she began to read through the words on the screen. She finally reached the area where they explained why he was deemed a 'Playboy' and she could feel her heart crack and break. There were several pictures of him with different women, dated only days apart, looking quite close. There were also several women who came forward about him to confirm the accusations and when questioned, Hawks didn't confirm or deny them.
She reread it several times before, her tails beginning to snap wildly behind her as her anger got the better of her, "Argh!" Her phone was crashing against the far wall, shattering into many pieces, angry tears streaking down her cheeks, "That son of a---"
"Ms. Kit." Her maid came walking in from the main hall, a dark figure behind her, "You have a guest."
Kit jerked her head to see Aizawa looking at her with wide eyes, making her look away again shamefully, "Sorry." She made her way over to the couch to sit, "Do you need something, Shouta? Did I forget something at the school?"
He eyed the smashed phone on the floor as he made his way slowly over towards her to sit next to her, "I wanted to check on you to see if you were okay, but seeing you the way you are… What got you so worked up?"
She leaned forward to put her head in her hands, "I don't know if I can explain properly right now."
"Come on." He stood from next to her.
She looked up at him, confusion on her face, "Huh?"
He huffed lightly and reached down to grab her hand, "You're coming back to my place so that Hizashi and I can watch over you..." He began to pull her towards the front door, "You shouldn't be alone when you're like this and a maid doesn't count. Put your shoes on."
Once she got her shoes on, he was grabbing her hand to pull her along again, as if he was afraid she'd protest. They got half-way to his home and it seemed to just then dawn on her that her hand was still in his, but when she attempted to pull from his, he tightened his grip around hers. Butterflies erupted in her stomach from this and she vaguely remembered having the same feeling around Hawks when she was younger, but she didn't know if she wanted to explore it now or not.
They reached the house that he shared with Yamada and after removing their shoes; he led her to the couch, "Would you like some tea?"
She simply nodded her head, not quite trusting her voice at the moment and watched him disappear into his kitchen. The front door opened again a few seconds later and Yamada walked in as he began to remove his jacket to show a plain white t-shirt under it. He was looking at his phone, his thumb scrolling through the screen.
As if he sensed someone looking at him, his eyes looked up for a second then back down to his phone, but then he did a double take, "Heeeey, Kit! I didn't see you there." He paused again, his eyes roaming her face, "When did you get here, Little Listener?"
"I just brought here a few minutes ago." Aizawa came shuffling back in with a tray of tea, "After the state I found her in at her house, I didn't want her alone."
This caused Yamada to narrow his eyes, looking between his two friends, "What happened?"
Kit wrapped her hands around the warm cup, "It's complicated."
"Then make it not so complicated." Aizawa's tone almost sounded annoyed as he sat next to her.
She couldn't help the harsh laugh that left her throat, "I'm not supposed to let people know much about my past. It could be dangerous."
"Dangerous?" Yamada spat out, sitting across from them on the floor, "We are not Pro Heroes for nothing, Little Lady. We do dangerous on a daily basis."
Aizawa was also giving her a look that showed his irritation, "You should trust us just a little. We have known each other for a couple of years now."
This made her breath hitch lightly and she looked away, "I guess I can tell you what I can without giving away too much." She caught them nodding to encourage her to go on, "So, I was adopted by a group that started training me from a very young age for a special project. I started the physical training before I even manifested the first part of my quirk."
"So, that's why you have such good control over your quirk; even through school from what I've been told." Aizawa said thoughtfully.
"Yeah," She swallowed down some tea, "Around the same time my quirk manifested it's first part, a boy was brought into the program as well and we trained together until we were in our high school ages. During that time, we became extremely close; nine years is a long time…" She bit her lip, "Before we were separated, I confessed my feelings to him and by doing so, another part of my quirk manifested and we created a bond. Because it was my first time using this power, it was a little too strong for my body and I blacked out." She sighed then at the memory, "When I woke up, my Master informed me that he had been shipped out for private training."
"I think I understand now." Aizawa shifted next to her a bit, "The boy was Hawks?"
"Hawks? The cocky bird boy?" Mic's voice was almost too loud, causing Aizawa to glare at him.
"Yeah, that's him." Kit's shoulders slumped.
"I understand that part then, but what caused you to be so angry?" Aizawa was still confused.
"Before he left, he had my one Master give me a small note that basically said he would wait for me and find me." Kit's grip on her tea cup tightened a bit, "So, despite me developing feelings for someone else, I waited for him, but then today after finally hearing about him, I find out he has also been labeled a playboy with pictures to prove it."
"Not to go off topic or anything, but what does the bonding do?" Yamada asked, curious.
"What I was told by my Master, my bonding ability manifests when I have a high amount of emotional attachment to someone." Kit thought back to what she was told, "I guess, we should be able to feel each other within a certain distance and it also gives a slight boost to quirk power. I'm not sure since I don't think I've been near him since making the bond." She shrugged then, "I was never told how to actually make a bond though. It just… happened."
"Oh-ho… Maybe that is how that cocky bird got into the top ten so easy then. Lucky little brat." He stood from his spot and came over to pat her back, "I don't know much, but I do know the media. One of their favorite things to do is create drama for and about Pro Heroes just so they can get good reviews." He stretched his arms above his head, "Maybe you should talk to him before jumping to conclusions?"
Blinking, Kit looked up at him, "That wouldn't be a bad idea, but I don't know when I'd get the time to."
Aizawa was leaning back on the couch with a contemplative look on his face, "How about you escort Tokoyami to his internship site? Some of the other students are being escorted if the agency is farther out and Kyushu is quite a distance. I was going to take him, but I guess you could go for me…"
"Could I?" Kit gave him a hopeful look.
"I don't know, Shouta…" Mic interrupted them, "Should she go confront him by herself?"
"I'll be okay." Kit said with resolve in her voice, "I'll do it."
The slight look of regret went across Aizawa's face and he looked up at his longtime friend to exchange a worried look. Yamada sighed, telling them he was going to order in before their patrols started and Aizawa only nodded to him in response. While they waited for their delivery, the blond brought out some board games and after convincing Aizawa that it would make Kit feel better, he joined in.
All the while, Kit would keep looking over to him with her heart pounding in her chest slightly. She hadn't meant to say that she had started developing feelings for someone while telling her story. She just hoped that he didn't realize that the feelings were for him.
