Just Pretend

Kit looked at the light before her, waiting for it to change color before continuing to drive her way home after, what she considered, a productive day. To better protect the students due to the incident from the training camp, the students were moving into dorms, along with the staff. In order to do this, the staff had to get permission from the parents of the students. That wasn't what she was doing, but Vlad, All Might, and Aizawa were. Midnight had volunteered to go as well, but everyone was afraid she would come across too provocative and worry the parents even more.

But Kit decided she wanted to be proactive as well and asked Nezu if she could make her own rounds to the students to check their mental health. She figured it would also help settle their worries to see that their children's psychological health was being taken care of as well as their futures as heroes.

She also used this as an opportunity to think about everything going on in her own life. She decided that, despite her bruised pride, she would act as if that night had never happened, but she wasn't going to go out of her way for him anymore.

Then again, her time away from Aizawa had given her time to think about Hawks. Yes, she was still upset, but she didn't really think she was actually upset with him anymore. She was more upset that she didn't keep looking for him. Maybe she would've found him sooner then and they could've started something together before he became the way he did. She kind of wanted to talk to him, but didn't know if her emotions would get the best of her or not.

The only issue she had now was that she didn't know how to feel toward the two men. She couldn't tell if she liked one more than the other or not and she wasn't entirely sure how to find out.

Maybe she just needed to… say forget an actual love life? She heard of women that did it and then there were those women that slept with whom they wanted with no strings attached, being careful obviously, since it wasn't so taboo anymore. In fact, Midnight was one of those women, though she didn't make that part of her life too public; only to her friends. She could do that, right?

Her shoulders slumped as she came to another red light. This would be her second day of going around to the students. While Bakugou had been rescued, it seemed to hit home for the students that the world was a dangerous place. Then to top it off with All Might's retirement, it added to say that even the strongest of heroes struggled, making them fear for their future.

All the parents, thankfully, had been very receptive to her coming to their homes to speak with their kids. She had been gifted with tea and pastries at some places and even flowers at some others. Some parents even requested she speak with them as well so they could have some closure. She found that she spent most of her time with the Iida family, the Kirishima family, and the Midoriya family, though the latter two families were actually just the mothers.

Iida's mother had been very understanding, but the motherly urge to protect her son was still there. While there, she met Tenya's older brother, Tensei the former Turbo Hero: Ingenium, and was actually surprised that their mother was so open considering what happened to the still fairly young man. Then again, the Iida family had a long line of heroes, so they more than likely knew what they were getting into and had accepted that things like that happened. She ended up not only talking one on one with Tenya, but with his brother, then his mother as well.

Kirishima's mother was a little bit more skittish about his mental health, but more than about what happened at the camp. She had even gone as far as to request to speak with her privately before she spoke with Eijiro. She informed her that the former black haired student used to have a severe depression problem before he got into U.A. Her fear was that his 'manly' stuff was a coverup and was hiding what he really felt. She blamed it on the lack of a father figure, so ultimately herself, so she asked that when he returned to school to keep a look out for depressive habits from him. Kit agreed adamantly, writing the notes down as soon as she was told.

Midoriya Izuku's mother was a totally different story compared to the other families she dealt with. She had nearly bombarded her with questions about the way each of the teachers handled certain situations. She also inquired about how other students treated her son because apparently he had a history of being bullied and tried to cover it up. She had specifically mentioned Bakugou Katsuki, but Kit wasn't all too surprised it was by the hot-headed teen. What upset his mother the most about him being the bully was how Izuku idolized him just under All Might.

All the while, she could tell Izuku was getting flustered, commenting that All Might already promised to look over him. Kit proceeded to let Inko know that all of the staff was moving to the dorms as well and there would be two pro heroes within the same dorm as her son. She even went as far as to let her know that she was going to be one of the staff members within the dorm. Inko was very happy about this, telling her that she thought she was very mature sounding for as young as she was.

Kit almost found his mother irritating that she doubted her own son's potential, which made her wonder if that was why the boy often doubted himself as well, but that all came to a stop when it slipped that he hadn't always had a quirk. While it has happened, it was extremely rare for someone to manifest their quirk in their teens. It happened generally around the age of four to about six, then that was when quirk doctors got involved. She made a mental note to look up his quirk record when she got back to the school.

Ultimately, Inko was very happy that she had volunteered to come by, praising the fox woman's work ethic. Kit had exchanged her email with her and informed her that if she ever needed help herself, she could contact her and she would be more than willing to make an appointment. She was basically a single mother, her husband working over sea more than ninety percent of the year, and it was scary to make these decisions and watch your only son literally fight bad guys by yourself.

She finally pulled onto the street where her soon-to-be former home was. She normally would park in the alley, but since today was also her final moving day, she was just going to check to make sure the movers had gotten everything.

Kit made her way into the house, confirming the last of her possessions had been moved out, but was startled when she found Mera standing in the old sitting room, "Oh, if I knew you were here already, I would've rushed a bit more."

"No need. I just got here a few minutes ago." He turned to her, "You move in tonight?"

"Yes." She pulled out the keys to the house and held them out to him, "I was just making sure everything was in order here."

"Right." He took the keys, stuffing them into his pocket, and then pulled out his phone, "Send headquarters a message when you and all the students are officially settled." He scrolled down the screen, "I have an update for you to add to your mission at U.A." He looked up at her with a serious look, "You are to keep an eye out on any students that All Might gives special attention to. His final message had a double meaning and we are sure that his future successor is within the U.A. walls."

Because Kit had turned off the television early after his battle, she had missed the message, but had watched it online, "Yes, Master Mera." Her tails swished behind her, her gaze staring off in thought about the former number one, "I'll keep my eyes open."

"Perfect." He turned off the screen to his phone, sliding it into his pocket, "Good luck on your assignment. Give me a call if you need anything."

Kit watched him leave and then did a check over the house to make sure she didn't leave anything personal behind. Not finding anything, she found herself standing in the doorway, looking back before exiting it for the last time. She couldn't help but be disappointed about moving once again. For once, she'd like to have a permanent home for more than a couple of years at a time.

She drove her car up to the school and parked in a nearly empty staff parking lot; it seemed that not many people drove at this school. Making her way across the campus grounds, she found herself entering the Heights Alliance dorm that actually was the 1-A dorms. Each student dorm had one male staff member and one female staff member so that if either gender student was needed, they could respond accordingly.

When you first entered the building, you came to the common area that held couches, tables, the kitchens, full bathrooms, laundry rooms, and a television. At the back end of the commons was a door that leads to a separate hallway where there were four staff apartments that needed a keycard to get into.

When she reached her room, Kit looked around the space as if studying it. She personally thought the rooms were very nice considering and it was basically free housing. The room was a studio layout with a full bathroom right next to the entrance, a small kitchenette, and a set of large floor to ceiling windows that lead out to a patio. By the door was a small intercom system for emergencies concerning either the school or the students.

Eyeing the sea of boxes that she dreaded to unpack, she sighed and got to work moving her big furniture into place before anything. This only took her several minutes and she mentally groaned as she got started on the boxes. After finishing, she decided that she would go out to see if anyone else needed help, so she grabbed her phone and left her room.

She had just shut the door when she heard her name called, "Kit." She paused for a second, taking in a deep breath to steel her nerves.

She turned, her ears cocking forward, "Hey, Shouta." She sent him a closed eyed smile, "We're neighbors now."

"It seems so." Then a small smirk found its way onto his face, "So don't keep me up at night with girlish squeals while watching romance movies. I value my sleep you know."

"Heey… I don't do that." Her cheeks actually flushed at the thought. "Then don't keep me up d-doing…" Her brows furrowed in thought, but nothing good came to mind that wasn't perverted, "Erm…"

He seemed to enjoy that she was stumbling on her words and leaned down into her face, "What would I keep you up doing, Princess?"

A shock went through her system at this nickname; what was going on? "Uh…"

He stood straight again, huffing out a chuckle, "Don't hurt yourself." He began to make his way down the hall, "I have a class to lecture about being idiots. I'll see you later?"

She didn't answer him as she watched him exit the door at the end of the hall; maybe he decided to pretend the other day didn't happen too? Pressing the heel of her palm into her forehead for a moment, she chose to put it behind her for now and go around to the students to see if they needed help. Not all of the students had movers to help put their things in their rooms like she did, though a couple did.

She had made her rounds and only a couple of students had needed her help, but now she was heading to the main building to prepare for tomorrow since the next day was the first day of the second semester.

"Hello, Kit!" She stopped to look towards the voice.

"Hey, Principal Nezu." She greeted him in return.

He walked up to her, "As you know, both first year hero courses are preparing to get their provisional licenses in a couple of weeks. When classes start back up and your workload lessens, I would like you to assist Vlad King and Aizawa in training the students. I know you help them out often as it is, but I want these students to be at least capable enough to protect themselves from another villain attack."

"Of course, I'll obviously help in any way that I can." She looked towards the main building, "I was going to go and make a fresh batch of tea before going to my office; would you like to join me?"

"Oh, yes!" He answered with excitement lacing his voice.

Kit was slightly amused as he quickly followed after her for his obsession.
