Waking took a while, her eyelids felt like they were sticking together, making it extra difficult to get over the sleepy feeling. Her ears did swivel around, listening around her to hear a consistent beeping sound while hearing mumbling in the distance. She pried her eyes open with a wince when she found the room to be rather bright, but after blinking a few times, her vision became better.
Looking around, she could easily tell she was in a hospital, the sterile smell invading her nose as she took a deep breath. Attempting to sit up, she groaned at how stiff her body was, but once she was in a sitting position she ran a hand over her rib area to feel for the damage that had been there. They were still wrapped, but it wasn't too painful to touch, feeling more like a bruise at the moment. The areas where the blade had stabbed her felt sealed up and she wondered if maybe Recovery Girl had stopped by.
Looking to the side of the bed, she could see several bags of fluid were connected to an I.V. that was in the side of her arm. Next to that, she noticed she was also hooked up to a heart monitor that had been the beeping sound she was hearing at first. Shaking her head, she leaned back against the headboard with a sigh and wondered how soon a nurse would come in to speak with her.
The door opened minutes later, thinking her thoughts had been read, but when she looked up to the door, she was only slightly startled, "What are you doing here?"
"Your fight was all over the news." Hawks walked into the room, bright wild flowers in hand as he lifted them into view, "I've been coming just about every day waiting for you to wake up." He walked over to the window where a pitcher of old flowers sat and he began to change the flowers out, "I was worried about you."
Kit hummed, watching as he threw away the flowers that were only starting to wilt "I'm sure."
He paused for a second, "I'm serious." He finished fixing the flowers and looked back at her, "Have you seen a nurse or doctor yet?"
"No, I just woke up a few minutes before you walked in." She shook her head slightly.
"Mm," He hummed, "I'll go let someone know then."
He left before she could say anything more to him, but when the door opened again a few moments later she growled a little, "You really should just leave. I don't want to spe---" She looked over at the door and stumbled on her speech, "Shouta! Hizashi! I'm sorry, I thought you were someone else."
Yamada gave her a strange look, "Someone else?"
"Who is bothering you?" Aizawa came over to the side of the bed.
"Hawks is here too." She grumbled out, "He left to go let someone know I was awake so I thought you guys were him again…" She reached out and gripped Aizawa's sleeve, "Are you okay? Were you injured?" She looked by him to Mic, "Were you? The students?"
Yamada just winked her way and took a seat in a chair, "Just a little sore throat. And the students were just fine."
"I was fine, just a couple of scratches." Aizawa's tone sounded distracted as he sat next to her on the bed, "Do you not know how long you've been out?" His hand came up to wrap around her wrist that was holding his sleeve as she shook her head negative, "You've been out almost two weeks."
"Two weeks?" She whispered.
"You had to have a couple of surgeries with a blood transfusion. " He informed her softly, "Recovery Girl came two days ago to help speed up your recovery… She would've been here sooner, but time wasn't working on her side."
"Oh." She looked down at her lap, "I didn't realize it was that bad."
"It was and I thought---" Aizawa was cut off by the door opening again.
Hawks came in the room, followed by a doctor, "I got the doctor for you, Kit…" He stepped to the side so the doctor could get into the room, "What'cha doing here, Eraser Head, Present Mic? Wasn't there school today?"
"I'm not sure what time your school day ended when you were in school, but our classes are already out." Mic grumbled.
"Are we not allowed to come out to visit someone in the hospital?" Aizawa ground out, "What are you doing here? You're a long way off from Fukouka."
"Not when you're as fast as I am." Hawks crossed his arms arrogantly.
"Easy you guys." The doctor urged, then walked closer to her, "Kit it has been a while since I've seen you."
Kit looked the doctor over, confused, "I'm sorry… I don't think I know who you are."
"That would be because when I saw you, you were not even awake; you had passed out from your bond." He gave her a friendly smile, "My name is Doctor Masashi."
"He was the doctor to check on you when you made your bond with me." Hawks seemed to be bragging, making Kit want to roll her eyes, "Thank you, Dr. Masashi, for taking such good care of her."
Aizawa's jaw ticked at the younger man before looking at the doctor, "How are her injuries?"
The doctor went over to a computer to pull up her chart, "I need to do another exam, but I think she is nearly 90%." He clicked a few things on the screen, looking her way, "So I believe you could go home tomorrow to do the rest of her healing." He pointed down at the bed and Kit let her gaze drop to where he was pointing, "Congratulations on the ninth; far from the three you had from when I first met you."
"Thank you." She flicked the tails softly, "Though gaining the tail might have been the reason I ended up like this." She looked back up at him, "My body felt so foreign."
"Not everyone manifests quirks quite like you do; you're a very rare case." He nodded and eyed Aizawa and Mic for a moment before looking back at Kit with a serious look, "Are you still in contact with your Master Kanda or Master Takao?"
"No and I don't want to be." It came out more harshly than she intended, but she really didn't want to see them.
"Ah, I understand." He stood from his seat and looked at the other men in the room, "I need to do her exam so if you could wait out in the hall, please."
The three men left the room and the doctor conducted her exam quickly, having her stand on her still wobbly legs, but she gained her balance quickly. After having her do a couple of more things, he finished and he let the others know they could come back in before he went back to his computer to type in his notes.
"I don't suggest you lift any heavy objects for a few days after you get home and I want you to rest." He was typing quickly while Aizawa and Yamada nodded to each other as if they would enforce her to rest, "Recovery Girl's quirk did an amazing job on you, but I don't want you to push it."
"I'm only the school counselor, that shouldn't be too bad, right?" She nearly whined.
"Eh, I'll let you decide that." The doctor stood, "I'll check on you again in the morning and if you're good then, I'll discharge you." He looked to the others in the room, "Take good care of her."
"Sure, doc." Mic rocked onto his heels and gave him a thumb up.
One he left, Kit let her eyes settle on the birdman in the room, "Why are you really here, Hawks?"
His golden eyes seemed to glow as they darted to meet hers, "I want to… No… I need to talk to you." When she opened her mouth, he darted across the room as a red streak and was crouching at her side, "Please." He begged, "I was serious when I said that it wasn't what it looked like." He gestured to the other two men, "But I can't talk about it with them here… You might trust them, which I'm surprised considering, but I do not."
"Considering what?" Yamada asked, very clearly offended.
"I'm not sure you'd understand since it was something Kit and I went through together." Hawks threw over to him, "It's nothing personal, man." He looked back at Kit, "Please… You know I don't like to beg, but I am now..."
Kit met and held his deep golden gaze for a moment before letting her shoulders slump and looking at Aizawa and then Yamada, "Could we have a moment?"
Aizawa looked about to protest, but she gave him a pleading look and he looked away, "I'll be back, then." He grabbed Mic, who had stubbornly crossed his arms across his chest, by the sleeve and pulled him along, "I'll go get you some clothes for tomorrow."
"Thank you." She gave him a bright smile to try and reassure him, but it fell off her face slowly when he was out of the room, then turned her eyes to Hawks, "Well, let's hear what you have to say."
He stared at her for a few moments before sitting on the edge of the bed, "Did you know that you leave a physical mark when you make a bond?" When Kit gave him a confused look, he untucked his shirt to lift it just high enough to show his hip bone where there was a cyan colored fox face about the size of a golf ball, "I never forgot you because I had a constant reminder and I didn't want to forget you anyway." He lowered his shirt, "I've been doing a lot of work and sometimes it means doing things I don't like doing. It is all for the Hero Commission and you should know they give me little choice."
This caused her breath to hitch, almost forgetting that he might have different training, but he was most likely in a similar situation she was, "No choice, hm?"
"They don't give you an option two, Little Red." He lowered his head slightly, "I can't really talk about it with ANYONE, but when I can, you'll be the first to know what I've been doing."
Biting her bottom lip, she looked towards the window, her eyes looking over the flowers he had been bringing daily for her. She knew the work for the commission could be just about anything and they went about getting it done anyway they could. She could taste the metallic taste in her mouth as she bit too hard on her lip.
What would this mean for her in the long run? She was still confused about her emotions regarding Aizawa and Hawks. Even now, as frustrated as she was with Hawks, she knew the feelings for him were still very deep and ingrained into her being. Making a sound of frustration, she felt the sting of tears trying to form and she tried to blink them away.
"I don't know what to think right now." She looked back at him, her eyes glossy, "I don't know if I am strong enough to handle this; I'm emotionally drained as it is already." She watched his wings lower slightly, "But… I'll think about this and when I'm better, I'll give you a call or something."
"Are you making me leave?" His voice cracked and Kit was sure she felt her own heart crack too.
"I'm asking you to give me time to think." She tried to make her voice as firm as possible, but she knew she sounded rather pathetic, "I will contact you no matter what though, so please…"
He was quiet for a moment before he sprang from where he sat and was out of the door within seconds. Kit groaned at this in defeat and laid her head back on the bed, mentally tired.
It was a couple of hours later when Aizawa poke his head back in, "Kit?" He looked around the room while he took a few steps into the room, a bag in his hand, "Mic wanted to come again, but he got a call about something." He sat next to her, "Did he leave?"
She knew who he was asking about, "Yeah." She reached forward, hesitating for a moment, but he finished the distance and grabbed her hand, "Are you going to go home?"
"Not unless you want me to." He showed the bag, "I planned to stay tonight if it was okay. I spoke with the nurse and she said it was okay as long as you said you were fine with it."
"Please." She was tired, but his presence helped her relax.
He squeezed her hand, "Sure."
