By the Blood

(THIS CHAPTER CONTAINS SPOILERS IF YOU ARE NOT CURRENT ON THE MANGA)

The morning of her release from the hospital, Aizawa escorted her to the dorms and she was pretty sure he assumed she was going to stay in bed for the day. Along the way home, he had gotten her breakfast and when he left her apartment after dropping her off, he told her he'd bring her lunch from Lunch Rush later that day, but he didn't know he wouldn't need to.

Gathering her things for the day at the school, she went out to the commons and was nearly bombarded with students, "Ms. Kit! You're back!"

Looking over to see Uraraka, Ida, and Midoriya waving at her from their seats at the table, she saw they were finishing up their own breakfast, "Good morning, everyone."

"How are your wounds?" Kit nearly yipped when Todoroki silently appeared on her other side, "I heard you had to have surgery after the attack."

She lifted a hand to her ribs where she had been hit, "I'm almost at one-hundred percent if you ask me, but I still need to take it easy."

"Yes, you do," Kit flinched, ducking her head a little as she looked over her shoulder, "Where do you plan on going, Kit?"

She eyed his crossed armed form and gave a little laugh, "Office work isn't that hard." She straightened up a little, "And if I remember correctly, you showed up back to school still covered in bandages after USJ."

He at least had the decency to look slightly embarrassed, but then his eyes narrowed, "Kit…"

Kit skipped over to him to waggle a finger in his face, "My work doesn't stop just because I am a little tired." She retracted her finger when she noticed he was oddly focused on it and then turned to leave the dorm, "Besides, with the students doing work studies, I need to be available to them."

As she made her way to the door, she noticed that the students were all watching their interaction. She didn't know if she should be worried about their thoughts or if they were just not used to seeing someone talk back to him. So, to give them more of a show, just before she made it out the door she turned and stuck her tongue out at him, causing the students to gasp and look back at their homeroom teacher for his reaction. She squealed when he began to make log strides towards her, his hand coming to grip his scarf, and quickly made her way down the path towards the school.

"Hey, Little Missy!" Kit was about halfway to the school when Mic caught up to her, "How you feelin'?

"I think she is feeling quite perky." Aizawa came up on her other side as he answered for her.

"Oh-ho?" Yamada chortled.

"Hmm." Aizawa hummed looking down at the short fox, "In all seriousness, if you need my sleeping bag at any point, let me know."

"Man, you must be one special little lady for him to offer up his most prized possession." Yamada teased.

Kit shook her head, "You think so? I think he is just a big softy."

"He isn't a big softy to just anyone." Yamada's eyes became half-lidded as he sent her a sly look, "From what you let slip on that Sunday, he is far from being a softy."

She blinked for a moment before she made a great impression of a cherry, "Hizashi!"

"Drop it!" Aizawa glared at his best friend.

"Alright, Alright," Yamada wrapped an arm around Kit's shoulders, "But in all seriousness, don't push yourself too hard. If you do, Shouta might have to use his scarf to tie you to the bed to keep you there."

She was pretty sure that she was making a good impression of a fish at the moment. What made it worse was the comment made the core of her stomach tighten deliciously, preceded by a tingle down her spine. Was she a pervert now or did Yamada actually mean it the way she thought? Judging by his earlier comment, she wanted to think he was the problem.

Recovering the best she could, she cleared her throat, "I don't do much as it is, so I'll take it easy."

They reached the courtyard for the back entrance of the main building when she saw Gang Orca speaking with All Might, but he stopped when he saw her to call out to her, "Kit, may I have a moment?"

Yamada frowned a little, "You know him, Kit?"

"I think everyone knows Gang Orca, Hizashi." She laughed lightly.

"They had dinner the night of the provisional exams." Aizawa told him off-handedly.

Kit shot them a sharp look, thankful they were still far enough away that Orca couldn't hear them, "He is a very good friend of mine." She huffed slightly as they walked the rest of the way over to them, "Good to see you again, Gang Orca." She let her eyes settle on All Might for a moment, "All Might."

"I have told you to call me Kugo, Kit." Orca looked at the three other men near them, "If you'll excuse us, I have some personal business with Kit here." He motioned for her to follow him and lead her back towards the back of the courtyard for privacy, "I bring you a letter from headquarters. I had gone to the hospital this morning, but they said you had already been released." He pulled an envelope from a pocket on the inside of his suit jacket, "I was told to tell you that you did very well on getting this information for them."

Kit took it, eyeing the envelope with her name on it, "Thank you for getting this to me." She looked up at him for a second, "Do you mind if I open it now?"

"Go ahead." He gave a single nod.

She opened it up and began to open it and scanned the letter:

Kit scanned the paper several times, a hand slowly rising to her mouth in shock. Dabi was the eldest son of Endeavor that was supposedly dead?

She looked up to see Orca looking away, "Do you know about this?"

"I received my own letter, yes." He sighed, crossing his arms, "This is... disturbing news to say the least. I also was informed that Touya's death was after his mother was hospitalized."

"What caused her mental health to deteriorate in such a way...?" Kit murmured more to herself.

Orca shook his head, "Have you met Endeavor in person?"

"No. He was here for the sports festival, but I didn't speak to him." Kit looked up at his question.

"He is a very harsh man. I can only imagine the way he is at home." Orca let out a huff.

"Maybe that is why Shouto was so cold." Kit folded the paper up, "He comes to me sometimes to talk to me randomly at some points more than most other students. Now I think I know why." She crossed her arms, a suddenly hard look going over her face, "You don't think he… abused them do you?" Her eyes widened as she continued to think.

"Slow down, Kit." They stood in silence for a few moments before Orca uncrossed his arms, putting a hand on her shoulder, "Don't think about it too much. It just means we need to keep an eye out on the youngest Todoroki to make sure Dabi isn't out for revenge against the family." He let out a little huff, "I've been assigned to look into Endeavor."

"Right." She put the paper in one of the many pockets of her pants, "Thank you again for delivering this."

"Of course, Little One." With his orca features, it was hard to tell if he was smiling, but she could see it in his eyes, "You better get back to your colleagues. They look... worried about the way you're reacting."

She looked back to see Mic and Aizawa waiting at the doors, "Oh boy…"

"I think one is just worried, but the other is a little jealous..." Orca suddenly chuckled and the hand that was on her shoulder pulled her close and he was holding her close with both arms now, "...that I'd do something like this."

From the momentum of his pull, she put her hands up, one landing on his chest and the other on his upper arm, "You love causing me all kinds of trouble, huh?"

"Couldn't resist. I don't get to have fun very often." Kit laughed lightly as he looked over her head, but she didn't dare look back herself, "I've known Eraser Head for a while now and I don't think I've seen such a fierce expression on his face." He released her after a moment, "You better go calm them down."

Kit blushed and nodded, "Thanks again."

"Don't jump into conclusions about the information we received." He nodded his head to her and walked off, "Take care."

Swallowing, she turned to start walking back towards her coworkers and could almost see the red in Aizawa's eyes while Mic patted his shoulder to calm down. Gang Orca was actually quite a popular Pro Hero, but couldn't help but think that Mic and Aizawa were not too big of fans now.

"What was that all about, hmmm?" Mic asked, leaning down to her level since he was quite a bit taller than her.

"What do you mean? He had a delivery for me." She held up the letter.

"A love letter?" Aizawa eyed the letter, "He was a little forward touching you like that."

"I've known him for a long time." She could feel the sweat drop trying to form, "… And it isn't a love letter." When they both gave her confused looks, she shook her head, "I need to get to my office to see if anyone needs me. Have a good day!"

She didn't give them a chance to respond before she was entering the building to avoid further questioning. Going up to the staff lounge, she went to her mailbox to check the contents, but found nothing.

"Kit? I didn't know you were going to be in today. I was told you were going to rest today." Nezu's voice came up from behind her.

Kit turned to look down at him with a smile, "I feel fine enough to speak with students."

"Ah, wonderful! Many missed you while you were gone." Nezu gave a happy expression, "Feel free to use the nap room as many times as you need."

"Thank you." Kit gave him a short bow before going around him to go to her office, but put a hand to her heart when she opened the door and saw the being inside, "Todoroki, you scared me."

He looked up at her and gave her a small smile, "I'm sorry, Ms. Kit. I just... My father is coming today... He is trying to make up for his past treatment of myself and my family." For some reason, this news made her stomach drop, "I wish to just talk... to calm my nerves."

"You can talk to me about anything." Kit reassured him, almost thinking it was ironic that she had received a letter about a family member of his.

"Thank you." He seemed to go into thought for several seconds before he began.

At first it was slow, the ideas he wanted to talk about almost awkward. But they finally found a flow and the conversation took off and they both became engrossed in it. It kind of amused her that despite being excited about a topic he almost acted the opposite.

Neither of them noticed the time fly by until there was a knock on the door, startling both of them. She looked at the clock and cringed when she noticed it had almost been an entire class period of time; he should've been back to class by now. Going over to the door, ready to be scolded by Aizawa, she opened it but the urge to back away from the door was for an entirely different reason.

"I do not mean to interrupt, but I was told I would find Shouto here?" His voice was low and intimidating, "I am taking him out for the day with permission from the school."

"A-ah, yes, he was just talking with me about going out with you today." Kit stepped to the side to look back at the younger Todoroki that was gathering his things.

"I don't think I've met you before. Are you new to the school?" His eyes were narrowed on her, but she didn't know if that was just how he naturally looked at people or if he had a different reason.

"I've been here for a little over three years now." She bowed to him, "I am Kit, the trauma counselor." As soon as she said this, she wished she would have taken the trauma part back when she noticed his eyes widened then and looked at his son, "I do more than just trauma, though. I am also here for anyone who just needs or wants to talk as well."

The duel haired teen came up next to her to look at his father, "I've spoken about Ms. Kit before with you after the attack in the shopping district; she is the one who protected us. I've also told you about her wielding a blue flame like Touya did."

"Touya?" His eyes became very intense as he focused back on her, "You use blue flames? Do they not damage you?"

"No, not at all." She held up a hand to let a small flame spark onto her palm, "I don't even feel the heat half of the time unless I'm really pushing myself."

"You are lucky." His eyes focused on her fire for a moment, "Even my Hellflame can cause me to overheat."

"Mhm." Kit nodded, then put a hand on Shouto's shoulder, "Have a good day with your father."

"Thank you for talking with me, Ms. Kit." He gave her a small smile, then looked at his father, "I'm going to go put my things away and I'll meet you by the front gate."

The both watched as Shouto walked away and when he was out of sight, Endeavor looked back at Kit, "He hasn't willingly brought up Touya in a long time." He sighed a little, "Thank you for looking after him."

"Of course, he is a very good young man and very talented." Kit grinned, almost forgetting who she was speaking with, "Have a good day, Endeavor."

He stared at her for a moment, then bowed his head to her, "You as well."

After he was down the hall, Kit closed her door and had to resist the urge to sink to the floor before she made it to her seat.
