The next few days passed very quickly to Kit in some ways, but she still was so tired. Natsuo was actually a huge help despite the fact that he was the one interning with her. The only issue was that there were a few students that didn't feel comfortable enough having him in the room while they spoke with her about their trauma or other issues. She could almost feel the guilt coming off of him, but she reassured her that it was only because his sibling went to the school AND he happened to be the son of the current Number One Hero. So, instead she would send him on errands related to the job so she could speak privately with the students.
Now she was walking him home, again without Aizawa, much to his displeasure. He was currently working with Shinso, Eri, and Midoriya, so he was too busy along with most of the other staff. Instead, Shouto was with them since he wanted to visit his sister anyway. The extra company was nice, but unlike the trip to the school, Natsuo seemed to be a lot more open with her now and they even exchanged numbers so if he had anymore future questions.
They reached his house and Kit eyed Shouto who looked conflicted about having to say goodbye right as soon as seeing his sister, "How about you stick around for a bit and I'll go walk around a bit so you can spend time with your family...?"
"Wait!" Fuyumi came bounding out of the house, "How about you all stay for dinner? I love to cook and so this would give me an excuse to..."
Kit opened her mouth, but Shouto looked up at her, "I'd rather you stick around rather than leave."
Kit blinked down at her student, then out of the corner of her eye she saw Endeavor round the corner, "Yes, please stay for dinner. Fuyumi is a wonderful cook…" He stopped a couple of steps away from her, "And I'd like to get to know the woman who my sons are learning under."
Closing her mouth, she swallowed slowly, then bowed to the young woman, "If it isn't too much trouble."
"Oh, goodie!" Fuyumi put her hands together, "I'll only need about an hour if you're okay with sticking around."
"I don't mind." Kit gave a shy smile.
"I can give you a tour of the grounds, if you'd like since you didn't get to see them last time." Natsuo offered.
"Only if it is no bother." She almost felt overwhelmed by the attention of the Todoroki family.
"Sure, let me go put my stuff away and I'll be out." Natsuo quickly ran into his house.
"Would you like some help, Fuyumi?" Shouto gently asked his sister.
"Oh, if you want." Fuyumi seemed happy with the offer, "Come on then."
When they went inside, Kit could only shuffle her feet as she felt Endeavor's stare settle once again on her, "My children seem to have taken a liking to you."
"I aim to have those I am around comfortable with me." Her cyan eyes locked with his, "Otherwise, it would make my job harder to help people."
"You sound like a real hero." He murmured as he took a step back towards the house, "I must tend to some things, but I will see you at dinner."
"See you then." She watched as he entered the house and couldn't help the sigh of relief she didn't know she was holding.
Natsuo came out a little while later and began to take her around the grounds before taking her to the several other smaller buildings on the lot. They made small talk as they went, but Kit couldn't help but compare the home even more to her first home. Other than the home being two stories, it was almost the exact same. Once they finished the tour, Natsuo led her around to the front where they entered the house.
"Oh, good. You're just in time." Fuyumi was wiping her hands on a towel that she attached to her side, "Shouto and dad are already sitting down. I'll be in momentarily."
Natsuo gave a single nod, while Kit flashed her a bright smile, as they went into the dining room. Kit took in the traditional low table and thought back to the last one she had actually sat at, once again thinking of home.
"Ms. Kit?" Shoto called as she stood looking at the table, "Are you okay?"
Her eyes darted to her student, a blush coming to her cheeks, "Sorry." She sat down next to Shouto when he pointed to the spot, "Your home reminds me of my old one."
Fuyumi quickly set the table up with food, then sat in her spot. Each person at the table gave a soft 'thank you for the meal' before getting into the food.
"So, where did you grow up, Ms. Kit?" Natsuo asked around bites of food.
Kit paused her hand from taking a bite of food, "I grew up in a little area in Kanagawa called Hakone. It is mainly known for tourist spots for Mount Fuji... It is a lot of rural land."
"I've been there." Endeavor commented offhandedly, "It is a beautiful countryside."
"It is." Kit thought back to the greenery around her previous home, "I sometimes miss it."
"Do you still have family there?" Fuyumi asked this time.
"Ah, not really..." Kit winced slightly, "I was adopted and my adopted family was... different. They did not raise me like a… daughter, but more like a potential future quirk investment."
This caused different reactions from each of the Todoroki members. Endeavor actually looked more curious, while Shouto and Natsuo gave her understanding looks, while Fuyumi gave her a sympathetic look. Kit suddenly thought maybe she should've made her past sound a little better, but she always tried to be as truthful about things she could because of all the things she HAD to keep secret.
Soon dinner was over and Fuyumi disappeared with Endeavor into the kitchen to clean up. Kit had offered, but both Endeavor and Fuyumi were very insistent about her staying to talk to Natsuo and Shouto. She did, but the conversation died down around the table and Kit decided to go push her help on the other two Todorokis, but when she reached the doorway, she understood why they didn't want her to help.
"Did you find out what I wanted about Kit, Fuyumi?" Kit knew she should walk away, but when her name came up, she couldn't help but be concerned.
"There isn't much about Kit out there except for a few pro hero articles. She seems to be an underground hero that works a lot with Eraser Head from U.A." Fuyumi seemed reluctant with the information, "You really shouldn't be trying to plan Shouto's future like this though... especially with her being his teacher… Erm… councilor..."
Now Kit's eyes were wide as Endeavor spoke again, "While your mother and I did not get along, quirk marriages are quite advantageous. What little I have seen of her quirk would be a perfect match for Shouto, despite the age; there is only a five year difference. A pairing would be good with Natsuo if only he didn't have that college girl."
Kit quickly turned around only to nearly run into Natsuo who was directly behind her. He caught her gently by the upper arms, but quickly put a finger up to his lips for her to be quiet. Apparently he wanted to know what his father was planning as well though she suspected he couldn't hear them since he didn't have the hearing she did.
"Next time that I run into Hawks I'll ask him about her. I was told by him that they were childhood friends." Endeavor then said, seemingly to himself.
"Hawks?" Fuyumi questioned, "But he said he was from Fukuoka in Kyushu..."
"Hm..." Endeavor hummed out, "He did, didn't he...?"
Kit could feel her heartbeat speed up, so she gave Natsuo a look and walked by him towards Shouto, "We really need to leave before it gets too late. Aizawa is going to be angry with me as it is." She looked at the time on her phone, her eyes widening when she actually saw the time, "In fact, I'm going to get the lecture of a lifetime."
"Is Eraser harsh even on the other staff?" Endeavor's voice behind her startled her into looking over her shoulder, "I understand the students, but another Pro Hero…?
She shook her head, "It's complicated, but..."
"Mr. Aizawa and Ms. Kit are a couple." Shouto answered for her.
"That's hard to believe. Eraser Head?" Endeavor gave her a look that told her he didn't believe her, "Your quirks don't even have anything in common."
Kit had opened up her mouth with the urge to defend her status with Aizawa was intense, "Not everything in life is about quirks; even as Pro Heroes." Her cyan eyes were glowing now, "While you might have seen the fire part of my quirk, do not think that you know everything there is to my quirk." She turned sharply to Shouto, "Please tell your sister that her cooking was fantastic. I will be waiting outside."
Kit quickly darted out the door after putting on her shoes and made her way out the gate. It was cold, snow beginning to fall around her, but she didn't feel the cold. In fact, in her anger, her skin began to heat up and you could visibly see the steam rising off her.
Shouto quickly made his way out to her and they began to make their way down the street when Kit stopped. Something in the air didn't feel right and it made the hairs on her neck and tail stand on end. Shouto stopped behind her as he noticed her begin to look around cautiously.
"Go back..." Kit suddenly told him, her voice hard.
"Ms. Kit?" Shoto half turned to look behind him, then back to Kit, "What's---?"
"Go back! Go get your father!" Kit shouted then.
Right after she yelled and as Shouto broke into a run, a few things happened all at once. Two large creatures landed, one behind them blocking the way to his house and the other in front of where Kit had been looking. On the back of what she recognized as a Nomu was Dabi on one and on the other was Mr. Compress.
Kit quickly decided that protecting Shouto was her top priority without a thought and shot her flames towards the Nomu that Mr. Compress was on since it blocked Shouto's path to his home. Mr. Compress yelled out as he jumped from the creature and watched as the creature basically melted.
"What the hell?" Kit looked beyond where the previous Nomu had been to see Endeavor quickly making his way towards her, "Shouto!"
Since he was there, Kit swung around and as she went to grab for Dabi, he was quicker to backhand her with a heavy fist. She went flying into a car that had been parked on the side of the street, the impact hard enough to dent the side of the car.
As she had begun to attempt to stand up, a kick to her ribs caused her to lose her breath and fall again; she was sure her ribs were broken again because of this man. She lifted her head only to receive another kick, but this time it was against her temple causing her vision to go black for a moment.
"Ah-ah-ah!" She heard Mr. Compress taunt as he quickly came up with a blade to hold Shouto from behind, pointing it to his neck, "I'd think carefully, Endeavor."
As she went to get up again when her vision returned, she was grabbed by the neck, his oddly sharp fingernails digging into her skin, "Now," Dabi brought her in front of him and held her close to his body as his other hand gripped the base of her tail, "I learned something about some mutated quirks." He gave a harsh pull to her tail causing her to cry out, "So, I would listen if I were you..."
Endeavor even stopped, conflict clear in his eyes, "Let them go!"
"I think I'll let one go, but the other comes with us..." Mr. Compress looked down at the younger teen in his grasp, "And who is to say that the one who comes with us survives?"
Kit saw a desperate look cross over Endeavor's face, yet the flames around him spiked, "Wait! Wait!" Mr. Compress maneuvered himself so he could look back at Kit, yet still could gage Endeavor's moves, "Let Shouto go... You can take me. I won't fight you; just let him go."
"Mmmm, that's what I wanted to hear." Dabi's lips grazed her ear, his eyes connecting with Endeavor's, "But what is to stop the old man from attacking us as we leave?"
"He won't!" Kit threw Endeavor a meaningful look as best she could, her ear flicking as the soft touch of Dabi's lips being so close caused them to flinch, "He could care less about me anyway. Just let the kid go."
"Ms. Kit...!" Shouto shouted, not liking her choice.
"You will do what you're told, Shouto!" Kit shouted back in near panic, breathless as pain erupted in her ribs.
"Do I have your word that you will not attack us?" Mr. Compress held a marble in his fingers, "It is either that or I can take both..."
"I..." Endeavor's eyes darted between Kit and Shoto, "I won't attack or follow you. Just give me Shouto."
"Yeah, Todoroki Enji, you wouldn't want to lose another son to an accident because you wouldn't listen, huh?" Dabi's voice came up behind her.
"Good boy." Kit watched as Shouto was thrown from Mr. Compress's grip.
Kit looked up to watch Shouto run to his father's side just before Mr. Compress threw a hand her way and everything went black.
