Chapter 42- Dueling with Alfred

The explosion spell activated and both participants charged at each other. Alfred made 2 earth golems and made them charge at Kazuki while he was preparing a 3rd tier long ranged fire spell. The teachers were amazed with Alfred's excellent fighting strategy while Griffin and Helgard didn't react. They knew that Kazuki was just playing with him because he didn't want the duel to end in a short time.

The moment Alfred released the spell, it was easily blocked by Kazuki's scythe. Kazuki then casted [King of Fire] a 4th tier fire spell that takes shape into an animal based on the caster's magic power. A Phoenix was formed and it charged towards Alfred. He tried to block it using [Stone wall] but it was ineffective.

(Note: The only defense spell that could counter a 4th tier spell is another spell of the same tier or higher. The same rule applies in other tiered spells.)

The Phoenix ignored all spells fired at it and hit Alfred's abdomen. His chest was burnt and he spat out blood. He was furious because he believed that he could never lose to Kazuki so he used his trump card [Earth Bender], a 4th tier earth spell that allows the caster to freely manipulate the ground in a certain area.

After seeing that, the teachers thought that Alfred was a genius that appears once every thousand years. They thought he was the reason why some important figures came to see the duel. Little did they know that the show has just begun.

Alfred made countless earth spears around Kazuki and released them all at once. They were as fast as bullets but it was useless. Kazuki used a regular sword to break all the spears and finally used [Frostbite] a 4th tier water spell that freezes the ground which made Alfred unable to manipulate it anymore.

He tried to use fire spells to melt the ice but it was useless. Alfred could only master 3rd tier fire spells so melting [Frostbite] would be impossible for him.

"Wh-what did you do?!" he shouted with a trembling voice. Though it was clear that he stood no chance, he still can't accept the fact that he lost to Kazuki.

While Kazuki was about to answer, he thrust his sword into his chest but it didn't inflict any wound. He stabbed him several more times but the result was still the same.

In the middle of his confusion, a scythe suddenly ripped his back which caused him to bleed. He then noticed that he was not stabbing Kazuki but an illusion. The real one was hiding behind him the whole time and he didn't even notice.

He dropped to the ground while bleeding. Kazuki healed his wounds and stabbed him again.

"Guhhh!" the pain he experienced that day was greater than what he felt all his life.

As he was screaming in pain, the teachers faces paled as they witnessed Kazuki's brutality towards his classmate. One of them even stood to try and stop the duel but was stopped by Stella.

Though they felt pity for Alfred, they wouldn't dare to disobey a supreme mage's order.

(Note: In a duel, you can't stop unless one surrenders or unfit for battle. Thus, the strategy of Kazuki cutting and healing Alfred to make him surrender is not a violation.)

"I surrender!" Alfred screamed in agony.

Kazuki stopped his work and healed Alfred's wounds. As he turned around to claim his victory, Alfred quickly took his sword and charged at Kazuki.
