The Great Detective

(Jared's POV)

London...

Snowing.

"In London in the time of Queen Victoria, there were many tales of a remarkable personage known as the Great Detective. I refer, of course, to Madame Vastra, the lizard woman of Paternoster Row and her extraordinary adventures, her beautiful assistant, Jenny Flint, and their mysterious henchman, Strax, whose countenance was too abominable to be photographed. There are also accounts of fourth and fifth members of the Paternoster Gang, shadowy figures whose assistance was only sought in the direst emergencies." The narrator said, in my head.

"I'm so glad you two came. We have news, I think, of particular interest to the both of you." Vastra said.

I looked between the augmented reality presence of Momoko Togame, Rena, Minami, and Kaede Akino. The three Magical Girls standing right in front of me, as I know fully well that they're in Kamihama City in the early 21st Century.

"I read this article a while back. It happened in the time period you're in." Momoko said, looking at me. "It happened southwest of Victorian London."

"Um, there was unexpected timing and density of it." Kaede said, sadly.

"Something tells me that it could be aliens." Rena said, crossing her arms. "I'm pretty sure it is. Thirty four percent."

"Wasn't it twenty four?"

"I don't know! We're talking about investigations that happened in the past."

"Well, they could just be meteors but it is worth looking in to. There is a very pleasant tea room in the area." Vastra said.

"Tea? Really?" I asked, looking away from the three Magical Girls and the Silurian. "And meteors. Why are you trying to give me the backstory between Hibiki and Miku?"

"Also, there's a Professor Arasmus Pink who's claiming he's going to split the world open with a giant drill through the thinnest part of the Earth's crust." Jenny said.

"You guys should investigate that." Momoko said, smiling.

"That does sound like a good idea." Kaede said, frowning.

"Jared's acting like me. Why?" Rena asked, looking at Kaede.

"Atlas. The Avengers..."

"Shut up." I said, angrily. "Is the professor important, Jenny?"

"I mean, he doesn't actually have a giant drill, and he's not really a professor, and he was a bit drunk at the time and singing a bit, but you know it is never too early to investigate a drill." Jenny said.

"You see? It's not important, Momoko, Rena, and Kaede! Why are you three even here with those idiots?"

"I've declared war on the moon." Strax said.

"Do be quiet, Strax." Vastra said.

"Too long the moon has hung unmonitored and unsuspected in the sky. It has gained an enormous tactical advantage."

"There's no one living there." Jenny said.

"And, um, Symphogear stopped the Lunar Attack." Kaede said, looking at Strax.

"Then it is clearly time to act. They won't suspect a thing." Strax said.

"Who won't suspect a thing?" Jenny asked.

"Moonites."

"Why do you keep doing this? All of you?! It's been rough at Atlas. And dealing with the Chitauri and Medusa was hard enough on top of that. I've also had to cope with the loss of some of my family. What's the point?" I asked, looking between the KMR triangle and the Paternoster Gang.

"We have told you. We keep telling you, we don't do this any more. We've retired." The Doctor said, grabbing my hand.

"There's a man on Praed Street with an invisible wife. Maybe he just doesn't have a wife." Jenny said.

"You're wasting our time." The Doctor said.

"I've had enough of this. Let's go, Spaceman." I said, looking at the Doctor.

The Doctor and I walk past them.

"Merry Christmas!" Jenny said.

And out of sight. The holograms of Momoko, Rena, and Kaede disappeared after I left the area with the Doctor.

"I think they mean it." Jenny said.

"Yes, my dear, I rather think they do." Vastra said.

"Damn moon." Strax said.
