Ah, Saturday, the best time of the week. No school. No waking up at a certain time. No work. Just a day to be a day.
Unfortunately, I had to jog around the backyard with King again, but while I complain, I'm actually happy they don't have me jog the whole lot, then I'd be complaining for real.
Anyway, I realized I hadn't talked to the fam in a while, and sure, I was going to see them next weekend, but I'm sure they've got lots to say to me before then, unfortunately, I'll have to call mom after I call my sisters. She doesn't get off until 8 on Saturdays and Sundays.
Anyway, I called Emy, I'd saved her number in my phone along with King's, John's, Miria's, mom's, and all my friends.
Hadn't heard from them in a while either.
After a few rings, Emy answered.
"Em! I'm so happy to hear from you! I thought you'd forgot us," I could hear the pout of Emy's cheery voice. It washed over my entire being how much I missed her voice.
"Hey Emy, how's mom and El?" I asked.
"Mom was still stock eating chocolate after you left but she stopped a few days ago. El's been really missing you too, she took one of your sweaters you left and sleeps with it every night." As if it wasn't bad enough I missed them tremendously, knowing they missed me just as much made me want to go home. Immediately. Emy might've sensed my longing through the phone because she told me:
"Hang in there, Em, we'll see you just next weekend." The lightness of her voice made me feel better. Here I am, the big sister, being consoled by the little sister. How ironic.
"Hey," I questioned, "you aren't still mad at me for coming to the manor instead of you, are you?" It'd really been bugging me.
"No, we're good," lies. I could hear it in the tightness of her voice.
"I've got to go, I've been the big sister since you left and I've only completed half the chores." Emy talked quickly, usually, when she does this it's when she's lying or excited. I don't know about your little sister, but mine hates chores. There's no way she'd be getting excited over them.
"Oh- alright, by-" the line went silent before I could even finish the word. Like gosh, and she didn't say bye.
"What was that about?" I turned around to see King playing something on his phone.
"What's you standing in front of my door listening in on my convos like a creep about?" I questioned.
"I'm bored," King turned off his phone and twisted it upside down, and slipped it in his back pocket, which is unfairly larger than mine, but right now isn't the time to get mad that for some reason boys get bigger pockets.
"I'm not a fairy, what am I supposed to do about that?" I folded my arms and cocked him an eyebrow.
"Well, what do you want to do? The guys got grounded because they tped a house after we left." King said. This is why the male species is not to be trusted alone with each other. They come to dumb conclusions that are supposed to be 'fun'.
"Well let's see what Kayla's up to," I switched over to facetime and called Kayla. She answered but her face wasn't in the camera.
"Hey Kayla," I said.
"Hey," She sounded a little stuffy. Maybe she was laying face-first into a pillow, can't blame her, it's a Saturday.
"You up to go out with King and I today, we're kinda bored," I asked.
"Sure, text me where we're going, be there in 30," The line ended.
"So where are we going?"
---
"What in the world are we doing at a skating rink, Perk?" King asked me, sliding on his skates.
"It's somewhere my friends and I used to go to hang out, I figured since you were bored, why not come here?" I said. Sigh, I really missed my friends.
"Yea seems fun, and it's not too crowded," I think Kayla must've been on something because we were at one of the most crowded skating rinks I'd ever been to.
"Haha, yea, sure," I said, getting on the floor. Makayla couldn't skate so she got on too and held me for dear life.
King kind of had it but if he would start skating too fast he'd lose his balance.
"Hey, can we have a time out? I need to talk about something." Makayla said, still holding my arm so tight I think she was cutting off circulation.
"Yea, let's lose King real quick," I said and sped up the pace, Makayla was still trying to balance herself while still holding my arm.
King saw us moving faster and tried to but he tripped, we were able to get mixed into the crowd and we got onto the carpet.
I pulled Kayla over to a less busy area where the music was a little fainter.
"Alright what's up?" I asked.
"It's Jaylen," She sighed.
"Jaylen? Is he being a dunce? I'll pimp slap him if you want," I said.
"No, we were hanging out Friday after school and he told me he had a crush on Nia," I gasped and covered my mouth. The tea!
"Do you know who Nia likes?" I asked, I was willing to see this love triangle go down in flames.
"Nia likes Deon and I'm pretty sure he likes her too," Welp. No love triangle for me.
"Well then there's nothing to worry about," I patted her on the back.
"He said he's going to ask her out next Friday while they're hanging out!" Makayla was hiccuping after every other word and I didn't have anything to say. I think the real price of being King's wife is handling the Kingdom.
"What if she doesn't reject him?! He's cute, you literally cannot reject a cute guy!" Kayla was basically screaming at this point and her hiccups were becoming more frequent. Man, I didn't know a 12-year-old could have feelings that go that deep. Crazy bro.
"I'm sure if she likes Deon she won't even consider Jaylen," I said.
"I hope so," I couldn't see because of the strobe lights but it seemed like Makayla was on the verge of crying.
"Let's just forget about him for right now, let's go get some snacks," I pointed over to the snack bar and she nodded.
"So, what happened with you and King?" She asked.
"Hm? What do you mean?" I asked through a chip.
"You're hanging out with him, what'd he do?" Makayla asked after swallowing some dot ice cream.
"Oh, he kinda spelled my name with rose petals and got me some shrimp alfredo and apologized," I rolled my eyes and twirled my chip in the air with a nervous chuckle at the end.
"Ugh! You're so lucky!" Kayla giggled and she nudged my arm and I giggled. Lucky me.
