Brotherly Love

“How was the movie, hun?” Nancy called out from her home office when Luke opened the front door. “I got your text.”

“It was ok.” Luke stood soaked in the entryway, wanting to hurry up to his room and avoid the awkwardness with his mother, still feeling a slight shame of how they last parted. “I’m going up to bed, good night.” His jacket dripped water on the floor while it hung on the rack in the corner.

“Wait, what did you see?” Nancy asked, appearing from the kitchen.

“Oh, that Jersey Boys movie.”

“Not good, huh?”

“It was good.”

“You don’t seem enthusiastic.” Nancy responded.

“Yeah, no, it was great, mom. Sorry, I’m really tired.” Luke took a first step up the stairs.

“Who do you go with?”

“What?” Luke paused.

“To the movie. I saw a car pull up to the driveway and you got out of the passenger side. Where’s your bike?”

Luke’s stomach dropped. He completely forgot that his bike was still unchained in the darkened alley across from the theater.
