"Pardon me, I have lost something important. I had it fitted with a tracker to find it in case it was ever lost. My old age gets to the better of me time to time." The crate moves into the van for full inspection and storage away all items within into the inventory. Make scan of adding to the inventory book.
"If I know her well, she asked for you atmosphere clearance code. She avoids you otherwise. You're rather boring, mister. Talk on for hours with never shutting up." Kate seems to raised her heart rate according to the signal data, "I also dislike any further conversations until everything is checked through."
"Tabex, they been around your solar system before you lot had understood how signals worked on a radio." The other federal space agency whom was here for a different reason, "They don't need a clearance since they account for 83 individuals already hidden among humans. This guy so happens to be among the frist settlers that made first contact."
I continue as I am. I send of this to Kate for her to make her own thoughts about this. A second opinion to fact check against. Alignment of events works naturally. She settles a little in heart rate when she received this information. Yet the rate isn't smooth still, stilled worried about something.
"I know that lense." As she said about hoverdrone1, "Its completely modified." He breaks out of the mock shape, reaching for the drone on the van. I posed some spider limb in defence of being uninvited in my space. He backed away smartly.
"He did exactly as you suspected sis. He knew his own technology." She seems very busy or is hiding in plain sight. I do sense her signal getting closer, "I am OK, if that's your worry. These folks have the clear from me, for now. We have our space cops to clear that understanding."
"That not how you should." I flutter them to shut up, listening. She walking on all fours again, she lowered her heart rate to nearly nothing and body temperature significantly. Something new to note about her in the medical care files, another trait she has adapted with the new body. Marking these changes will give us a answer about the Outsiders someday.
Even the federal open markets of the Milkyway have scary stories about the Outsiders. The universal term for those whom were born outside a galaxy cluster. The scout out for fleeing races from certain star points is what the current local federation of folks came here for. To question the twins about their origin and status of that place. Humans are late to this new space laws as are machines; it doesn't change that these off worlder are the cause of the plagues. The source of the parasites being form space. This is what many local stars systems within the Milkyway fear. That they are next to fall to the civil war collapsed that follows parasites.
"Are they bad news?" She asked, "The freak was on about Ddc100 variations and that we bet him to achieving the depth of understanding the parasites." I picked up some movement to the other side of the van, access unlock with a transmission. The internal van limbs are helping in with care to close the door behind. The perk of silence around me as they become uncomfortable.
"My sister has not gone into deep study of off worlders as I am. It's why I called you what she uses. We were talking a moment ago." I explained to relax them, "I have met this gentleman before, and in my early years before being the titled as I am. I did take one of his drones. Well... it was more compicated then that. My sister and I were infectious back then." I put the last box I have been sorting into the van. I can see she is tucked into the coffin bed for now, "Our private story isn't really for the weak hearted. So I am changing topics. What do you want with us this time, Plague Doctor?" Looks around confused but with the doc returning back to the old man shape, "I take high offence to those whom upset my sister. So in future, so not expect me to be rational with you. We don't need her going back to sleep again."
"You are a strange pair, a human and a machine claiming to be siblings. But you are the nanotechnology system, you need her as she needs you. Whatever you been through would put family bonds between you must have been life changing." The false old man grins wide and in glee to see us. Smug enough to make gesture towards his companions.
"We came to take samples of the claims he made about there being a strain that stops mind control by parasites." The maid as my sister called it. Someone to far away from home and will be the headache of many humans if not reported. I will do them a favour of letting the systems know.
"These parasites are not mindless creatures. They are in early development but they aren't after stage 4. We are still researching into the species and building a database of examples as we find them here on the new breeders grounds. They have abilities that could be of useful for machines like those around us listening. They have use to you if you can accept the responsibility of keeping a pet like that. Like any enslaved race, they are forced to do actions not of their nature. This is where the Ddc198 strain comes in, it was discovered among parasite populations. Removing the collar of control off the parasite. Leaving the parasite to use what it learned to be free. This is why there is three types. The controlled, the civil ones and the mindless - undeveloped ones whom haven't learned to be more." The shock painting them all, "I suspected that no one knew. You only recently photographing them by a method copied by our findings." They look to the doctor whom nods knowing this to be the turth, "I don't give you permission to be stealing blood from my sister. I can give you a reponsbility to look after a pet. Testing on this pet is to be stricitly non-invasive. If you ask the pet nicely, it may allow you to take samples." I study the rooms reactions, "To shocked then."
"Way to many unwelcomed visitors." Lucas came forwards in his uniform, "Not causing any troubles here?"
"Just two different societies learning about parasites." I turned away with finishing up the packing, "The wheel chair is armour, that guy is a old nuisance from library days." Lucas turned with giving inspections, "Most of the folks here have weapon clearance and atmosphere clearances. The doc is a earth resident on return from his space wondering." Lucas nods softly.
"The issue of parasites isn't spoken of enough." The original set whom came for the two runaways. The car stealer as it seems. He cleans up nicely in better clothing. To symmetrical for natural humans.
"Before you leave, you want to have a doctors check. This planet is in global crisis, you don't want to taking anything with you." I waved with Hoverdrone1 taking off and scanning everyone. The data was pulled to my sister as she is doing the analyses. She does some study of new race encounters while she was making checks. I closed the van with hoverdrone1 returned safe, "The three whom were in court yesterday, you have each picked up an illness. I say it looked like the common cold for humans, which could mean something different to your immune systems. I think you have the medical care to get over it, but do not take it lightly. Minor nuisances it may cause can be a determent in situational crisis." I peer to how I am handed meds to give to them.
"Honestly sister, your criticizing another health care." She sent me images of things from human history. It will seem that illness has nearly dropped the world population before, "Fine." She sent something about the invasions of countries with the spread of diseases, "I guess you are not wrong."
"This would be the medication humans use to fight it. We will tailored version for those three." I nod and this group now leaves. I have already returned the equipment and evidence to them. They traded contact details for later hearings. The group whom are still here trade contact about the parasites talks, as the information is more serious then many had assumed. It seems that it was related information of the case too.
"Can you help us then? If we bring you a patient, would you heal them?"
"We can't guarantee anything. The stages of parasites can absolutely kill the host if the host isn't strong enough or made of enough materials. The cross personality changes are hard to detect which was the original body owner. We don't have the experience to deal with off world anatomy. We don't want to be held accountable for the death of someone you taking the trouble of crossing galaxies for. Maybe even curse us for taking away something they used to have. If you care as you do, push to have them alive no matter what. They could hate for what the outcome." I take seat on the drivers side, "We have a duty to do, you are not welcomed to join us. Where we go from here is seeking death."
"The life of a researcher." The plague quack laughs and mutters a lot. His punched.
"You are holding back important information about these parasites, I hold you responible for several galaxies. You whom is withholding a cure."
"Oh sweet heart." My sister using my voice, "The person your saving might actually be the one your trying to kill. A parasite takes over all thoughts and abilites from their host. Sometimes the parasite is whom is wiser then the host. The mutation of the outer body can look horrific, but they are only between staging. Loss memories is a mid staging." She opened the side door, "Once a parasite has taken away enough organs, there is no reversing that damage. I am sure the freak there told you. Parasites take away every organ for themselves, even the brain eventually. Are you sure you want to murder the wrong one?"
I leaned back on the partly closed door of the van with notice that my sister was half out the coffin. She was leaned to listen to this conversation better. I am quiet sure she was using my mix set up listen a moment ago, these actions don't seem necessary.
"The cure you claim to break mind control is parasite only. It takes away the cause of parasites being forced to do bidding of a higher purpose. The harvesters of parasites only send these child to make meat shield solider for fodder for war." I have my voice back for myself, "So who is it your really fight for and with?" I shook, "This cure doesn't stop the parasite controlling the host. If you taught that parasite fear, it will lash back. You taught it as an equal, it will have learned your language and find a way to communicate like an equal. Although, parasites are all different in personalities. It is how I would say about humans. They are the same but different people."
My sister tilted in how that sorrow sink in for 'the maid'. Coming out of the van, and brushing hand to the shoulder.
"I wish there was something easier to get over grief like this. No matter what we are made of or what corner of the universe we are from. Pain of losing those we care for is the same. We are all scared of dying. All scared of unknown." Hugging the stranger while again using my voice to speak to them all, "I say, sometimes living in grief is not better then being dead." She pulls the maiden to attention, "You either have to never forgive yourself for the blood in your hands and live a dead life. Or you take this pain and do something greater. We don't know your situation. Maybe you have the weight of the responsibility take everything from you. Don't make your chooses with regrets." My sister returned back to the van, the door closed.
"There is some chooses that shouldn't be ours to make." I focused with the van, taking command of it. The limbs put away, the inside with everything accountable. She was on it with making sure we have docking clearance out the city, 'our flight off city back around old stomping grounds'. She got all quiet with herself again.
Although she was feeding the parasites whom still haven't found homes yet. Over half were housed within storage village pf AI. Each will be staying hidden within the AI village with strict monitoring by Lucas's crew. From the mirror, the folks we left in the dust have turned to Lucas. He will answer the questions at the best of his ability. The Plague Doctor watching us until to far away for him. Up to no good likely, his their handful to sort out.
"I am a hypocrite." Kate leans at the coffin edge, a hand dancing within, "I became recruited because I couldn't stand my grief. I am still here because I didn't let it go."
"But that will to live for others has saved lives. It could be about time you follow through your words. You are a researcher into saving all matter of lifeforms. You are already doing something greater. Our time searching about the parasites was exactly what is need." She purred a little at that.
I ponder if this inner doubt is because she still believed she could have done something better in her past. Going by the memories we stolen from the original parasite, Poison. The confirmation of whom really did kill her wife. Does Kate think that sin transferred to her when she took the body? A sensitive matter to be talking about. It be better in a more stable setting. For now her readings are normal again, as is her core temperature.
"I don't think giving them the Ddc198 strain to use as a vaccine is what they are actually asking for." She continues her thoughts, "From how shocked they were, they didn't seem sure of whom they were actually trying to save. They didn't consider the parasite whom was fighting the commands from beyond. How come no one has ever bothered to check corpses? Would you want to know the cause of death for certain?"
"The space laws are about keeping contagious unknown disease from spreading on a crew ship or even colonies ships which is where vast populations interact." I had the laws brought up and passed over, "No risk of pass on if you don't investigate the source to long with the dead and burn them. Cremation is the most common and acceptable method of body disposal. The other methods are the same outcome." She reads everything that she could. Falling asleep. I had her tucked into the coffin, I am sure just leaving her on the side wouldn't be comfortable.
Docking onto a ship for out of the city doesn't always require any goods checks. Just that what is declared as going out of the city is what is on paperwork. ID scanning with last uploaded information. The officer whom flagged us in was on duty, making my checks smoother. He has several smuggled folks coming out the city, including the Plague Doctor.
The vast majority of the group whom are watching over the doctor were more then glad that his attention is on someone else for now and within the confines of a small space. The mad quack took high notice of us when he settled in for the flight. Before take off he was larking to close around the back door. I had the spider deployed for any leach removal, I didn't need this guy ripping up our business once outside of the city. He would scare away most of my own customers, other half machines or parasite hosts that would fear being tested on. As for those that Kate handles, well they wouldn't want to be ranted at like that for to long.
"So what exactly happened to her since the libaray? She look like a corpse with ripped flesh back then. Was there pain? What does her blood system measure as? Aren't you always worried that she will be cellular deconstruction trigger could happen at any moment? Oh please. Please talk." I stood outside the van as the straps were being applied to the wheels, I would mute my hearing if I didn't consider it important. But I wanted to be sure of the engines, listen if we were landing where we should.
"What is the history between you two?" The maiden which as humans would translate to be a royal with no gender spoke up.
"You know my history." The doctor snickers, "I helped co-create and set funding for the survival of a on coming invasion of the bio weapons. I used the rouse of purification in the public eye." The maiden punched the doctor, "Alright I will start with how I found them together."
He patered on about seeking what had happened to the escape test subjects. All of whom been down graded as lesser people for accepting false DNA. The rogue signal off city was hard to trace until one day. Already partly forgotten about, just a drone to spy. Nothing but the signal had meant life. He was more detailed about its he ranted. In coming into the part he really was trying to say, I finally sighed. Silence now.
"It would be boring to talk so far back. We been on the road a long time since. We have changed as individuals as a result. Talking of my sister's health would be rude and not everything we have done since will make relations with others of this planet unease enough." The doctor snarled a little with being spoken over by a lesser like me. He values my sister intelligence. He growls in a low tone, out of hearing from the Maiden.
"The first version of myself was a tool for others gain. By truth, I am the weapon that puts biological warfare to shame. I am a illegal creation to the federal space agency. However, I was create with no aid from off worlders. I am human made. I was the one whom humans used to seek best conditional reports from subjects that later found my other tricks very useful in the creation of disease DNA mixing. Around the time that first contact was made with other races beyond space, by accidently causing interpretation of radio signals. Earth had been setting up secret ways to protect itself from what could come. Humans being the most adapt had several nations of different leaders. Each pulled together resources to make machines. Then worked machines to build and dig shelters. The project for nuclear fallout protection was named the snowing ashes. It had many miniature projects within. Several different aspects covered for the worse case. To humans, worse case came with physical contact with Doc here. A mad man whom had wrong organs to be human. I recall that well... you in a car crash. Woke in the morgue the next day." I may have lied some but the detail was to vaguely real that it will be assumed truth. Kate showed me how to do this while I watched her bargin tactics for market sales.
"It would seem that Jackle has evaded the machine and human war." I shook.
"Propergander. Human governments withheld a ton of information from the public. Use something closer to them as a distraction for bigger news. It was all told eventually but by then the dust was settled anyways. No need for riots or civil wars." The sour faces of their expressions, "Was it you the Tabex whom claimed humans as cattle? You seem well played by a race that created me." I moved to scan the van. I brought out with supplies to wash the surfaces. The city could have contamination that could cell trigger any bird message carriers.
"My point that I am trying to make before side tracked again." I peer at them. Two whispering to each other, looking up from my handy work so far, "The past doesn't matter. From what I read, no race has had it perfect. Not even newbies like me." Spray away all the potential spread. I have spider at work underneath. Internally van compartments being sanitized in a hot mist. Kate is safe in the coffin with the pets - no risk if injuries during the clean.
"You didn't answer about how you two met."
"I had been implemented as a tracer on the doctor before. A portion of me used to read his life signiture and locations. I had already read his DNA and added it into my database." The doctor snarls more clearly, "Maybe we spoke over program before. Sent instructions to kill the rogue test subject. No... was it to bring her back. Doesn't matter now." the spray bottle place inside and the rag with it, "We have a history he doesn't want you to know. As humans say it, a wolf in sheep skin. Pretending to be innocent."
"I appreciate the warning but I wouldn't go this far out if my home for nothing." I have seen that look and mood before.
"Kate isn't human anymore. She was frozen over a few centuries. She was under ice at the last stages of her life. By human intervention, the doctors Ddc100 and my hand of playing editor. She had a natural human death at the age of 94. Right when we stayed in the libaray full time. She was forgetful and losing her memories. She still has problems with knowing time." I watched that reaction of them both hearing me, "Her official city ID was locked with her passing. Someday she will recall her name." I shook, "She does know. She chooses not to use it."
"So what is she?" I say nothing to follow a answer. The discomfort of not answering is changed with a new one, "How has this version of her been doing health wise?"
"I can't tell. We have no background data for her. I can only compare health with similar DNA types. We make do with what we have. The studying biology of this worlds life is all we can do." I step into the van with partly left open door. Caught from closing, "All that is left of a human is her brain and way of thinking. Since she had lost so much, she has been less human since. Her DNA is completely rewritten. It's what happens in the later development of a elder parasite. She was luck to have one with a goal and personality. It was whom didn't want to erase Kate's personality and sense of stance in a moral sense."
The hand moved off the door. The maiden looked less human, lost in thoughts. The sink in of what we are telling them. Maybe the impact of what parasites do to their race is more a nightmare compared to those on earth. I kept my door creaked a little longer. My many eyes watching the folks around my van and what they were up to.
"I have spoken to many whom been in the same state. Each has said that life after dying to a parasite is torture. She lies about being fine and ignores it herself. Wanting deny the pains she is in." I shook, "She is only suffering because I can't let her go. I don't think she realizes that." Door finally closed but the window rolled down, "My medical advice is that you work out whom you actually care about; the host and or the parasite that took control after. Mercy would be death for the host. Letting the parasite as it is within the host is also completely a good option. Not all parasites want to be enslaved. If you don't take my word... Well..." I twist back scooping one and show, "Take it from one them that was freed."
The little fella bows toward the maiden. It coils in sorrow and fear of being judged, shivering. The glare the maiden give me for starting this conversation to allow a parasite. The maiden snarls for a while yet was silent and paler for it. I put the little one back with the rest.
"They are self aware?"
"The ones on this planet are. Whom knows about other worlds. The cause of other environmental factors towards their development. The amount of hosts energy that is available in result to better thinker. Kate and I are the only ones it seems... the only publiy spoken about them as a race of itself." I pull the window up, a finger blocks it by the sick doc.
"What happened to the 20 people whom were sent by you machines on a requested? A secret request."
"15 have survived but will never be fit enough to return back to human society among the city domes. The others died failing their mission. Not all of those whom survived are humanity. Most of them will never be able to preform the medical care that they use to craft in." The hand goes to push the window. So I lower more, "You are not fit enough for the decent care needed. You don't have the calm to stare at them. You're personality will only get you murdered." He laughs, "Why do you think I became good at crafting prostatic limbs? Why I can craft perfect mimic human hands? Why I wired my forms like a human nerve system?" The snarl, "Because when you mid surgery and they bite your hands off. You have to have a replacement parts there and then. You have to know what your cutting into by referring. Sometimes that reference isn't enough." His hands off my glass, "I don't have the twist of fingers to prefect internal decent quality surgery of organs. She does that. I just sow after surgery, the surface areas."
Window up.
They backed off.
For now.
Maybe this is going to be a longer flight then I hoped.
They have already took control and have been flying a new direction. I suspected they plan to take us to where we wanted. Not that they realise that Kate stole the autopilot and access of the air ship when they back door the programs. These folks don't have a clue that they're hijacking has just been pirated from them.
"You recon we can ditch them where they want or we could land on the roof of one the building in London?" She asked.
"Play along maybe. I wouldn't want them ate in front of us." She hummed with leaning over my shoulder, her eyes weren't looking at the windscreen but the camrea that control of the plane. I shared the view with her, study of the destination we are heading for.
"Out of the van!" I put the limbs of the sheilding down, sealing the van closed. The feet planting the floor. Kate twisted her neck with was in follow of the plane sharp turn.
She makes it dive for a short bit and back on course with heading to London. Over shot the landing zone these folks were originally attempting.
"You recon Hyde Park would be spacious enough for us? I have seen helicopters land there in emergency." She asked.
"Not a bad idea." I fished out our ID cloth patches while she puts her helmet on.
As I had to explain to Kate internally. Flying where you want is so much easier with the lack of other planes and with stealing the hijacked craft to begin with. None of our extra folks were happy about the location.
So it was down to us leaving them in this air craft, the van's limbs cut the wheels free. The door opens as she made it to. I have the van crawl instead of running over. The crew were lining to prevent things coming in. The few human screams of shock as we are free.
"You can take the plane back. I am done piloting it for you." She sits at a roll down window, waving goodbye.
"Your insane!" The plane door back up. Very quick for flight return. No extras on our van or left behind from the door opened. All the drones here are accounted, even hoverdrone1 and Spider. Both whom would be the more likely to be lost.
"London looks unchanged. Just the folks whom walk it." We dot across through Hyde Park, mostly sight seeing from the edges of it. She was enjoying this, the purring. This purring was something that puppet1 had, so maybe carried over from a psychological factor. At least she consistent with using it as a cat would. It's not faked. Its used when suited to her feelings. She crawled out to sit on the roof, a better veiw to sight see with.
"Lady Nick!" A bird landing on the bonnet, "Wow, who know you would arrive with metal wings!"
The crow mix brought us through mindless territory before. Our perfect guide. Someone the tell me the road rules here.
