ADIAN'S POV
Being sent on an errand during the meeting was the highlight of my morning. Those old geezers were getting to me and uncle Jerry seemed to have picked up on that, so he sent me to collect the completed documents from a company we've recently commissioned. From the looks on the directors faces, as I agree to go, showed that they were impress.
Maybe seeing the future CEO, doing something that some may consider beneath them, put me at an advantage for a change.
Not ready to return to that asylum, I took a detour into the traffic to get something to eat as a way of passing time.
As I idled at the traffic lights, a vision of beauty in black and purple stepped into my line of vision. As she was putting on a pair off shades, I caught a glimpse of a tinge of grey before it was covered it.
Unaware of the eyes that lingered on her as they pass by, she fought balancing the bag in her hand, looking left and right, making a decision, she turned left, walking down the sidewalk.
Keeping my eyes on her, I suddenly felt like a stalker, as I drove through the traffic, still observing her. "What the f**k" I muttered to myself.
One block down, she strolled into a cafe, with poised and confidence. Driving further down, I slowed down, turning into the alley used for parking two buildings after the cafe.
Feeling like an ass, I sat in my vehicle debating if I should go in an check her out. I don't normally do this but something about her, drew me to her. Maybe it's her colors, I thought.
Climbing out of the vehicle, I locked up before walking in the direction of the cafe.
Entering the cafe, I looked around the cosy atmosphere, of the cafe's wooden decor. The chairs, tables, counter and the backdrop, clean and vanished. It reminded me of the holiday cabin my family has, a happy place.
Smiling, as I walked in, a young girl approached me, "good morning sir, you can join the line or have a seat anywhere, and I will take your order" she gushed blushing, indicating the empty tables around.
Smiling, I looked around and saw the person I was looking for already sitting at a table. "I'll have a seat, just give me a moment. I just saw a friend" I told her, noticing her disappointment. I didn't give a f**k,, because it took a lot of guts to come in here and I suddenly decided I'm not backing out.
Approaching the table where the girl sat alone, tapping her fingers on the table top with a contented smile on her face.
F**k, what the hell is wrong with me. I never had a problem approaching a girl that interests me.
"Good morning" I said smiling, standing at her table.
Looking up, the most beautiful grey eyes I ever saw, looking directly at me, moisten with unshed tears, immediately wiping the smile on my face.
Without asking for an invitation to join her, I quickly pulled the chair opposite her and sat down, with a small smile.
"I'm sorry about this, but the waitress back there" she slightly turned to look around, "no don't look please" I stopped her.
Did I just, do that? Darn, I'm really pathetic.
"The thing us that, I'm on an errand for my supervisor and I felt hungry, so I came in for a quick snack and coffee, but the waitress," indicating with a lowered finger pointing to where the waitress was, hoping she didn't observe what I was doing. "was flirting with me and not wanting to encourage her, I told her I saw someone I knew, so here I am" I explained.
Looking at me, with eyes roaming from my face lowering to my hands on the table, then upwards to my face again, staring directly into my eyes as I got lost in hers.
"I guess you'll be paying for my coffee, friend" she said with a shy smile as she started tapping her fingers on the table again.
Grinning broadly at actually pulling this off like I'm back at high school.
"Have you place your orders yet?" I asked
"Uh.. em.. yes" she stammers.
Turning around to look for the waitress from earlier, meeting her angry gaze, I signal her over.
Approaching the table with a tight smile, "good morning, how may I serve you", she asks looking at me and then at my new friend.
" Would you like to add anything to your order?" I asked my new friend.
Smiling, "no thank you" she answers politely, staring me straight in my eyes.
Without looking at the waitress, I gave her my order, only looking in her direction as she walked away.
"Thank you" I told her. "I'm Adian" I introduced myself, looking to make sure the waitress wasn't looking before stretching out a hand to shake hers.
"Hailey" she reaches out, clasping my outstretched hand.
As I felt her small hands in mine, something stirred within me. How can I feel like this? I'm not accustom to this feeling and it's dangerous grounds because its unfamiliar. I am always in control of my feelings and I need to be in control now. Releasing her hands quickly, I smiled hiding my emotions.
Hailey?
Looking away from her eyes, I lowered my eyes to the bag on the table. with the outline of a cake container.
"Picking up an order? " I asked pointing at the cake.
Looking at the bag, she smiles "no, actually it's a birthday gift" she answers.
Staring at her again, "oh, you're celebrating a birthday? Congratulations" I said.
A male waiter arrives at our table with her order.
"Here you are miss" he says placing her coffee latte in front of her with a wide smile, admiring her, gazing into her face as she kept her eyes on her drink.
