Chapter Forty Eight - Setting Traps

Hailey's POV

Adian actually seem to be considering that minions request? "I have an even better idea that works for.. uh.." not knowing her name, I simply indicated the minion who wants to hang with Adian. "How about I come over and cook you an amazing dinner and then you take me to wherever,. to hang out with you guys and you spend your winnings on me and you get to hang out with.." still not knowing her name, I just gestures to her with a wide grin.

"F**k yes, that's an amazing idea" Adian agrees chuckling turning to me, with a twinkle in his eyes.

"You couldn't refuse the hot cooked meal or the hot chef" the board member whom I'm beginning to like, asked Adian.

"Both" Adian says softly looking me over. Blushing, I turned away from him only to meet the angry glare of the minions, especially Ms. Stewart.

"On that note, I will adjourn this meeting! I needed to brief you on what was discussed this morning before you hear it on business news tonight. Roberts has the camera on so bits and pieces will be forwarded to the news network." Ryan addresses the board members

Chuckling, "Adian,. I hope you enjoy your dinner and I want you guys to have a good weekend. Don't drink and drive"Looking at the executive board members, nodding, " this meeting is adjourned" Ryan says, before sitting down. I moved to stand because I want to speak to the board member, whose name I can't recall.

Employees who works in the building started filing out, and my eyes fell on Ms Steward, whose eyes were fixed on Adian, my husband who was chatting with another board member. I decided then and there to find out what happened or if anything happened between Adian and Ms Stewart.

Standing, I felt a tug as Adian pulls on my dress, without looking at him, I nodded, already understanding that I should wait.

I walked across to the board member I liked, whose eyes watched me approach him

Before I reached him, I looked to the doorway only to see Ms Stewart and Clyde whispering and looking at me. Something tells me it's not good, whatever they're planning. I have to be careful and if hanging out with street kids has taught me anything it's trusting and identifying traitorous people.

Looking back to the board member with my smile slightly disappearing, realizing he was watching me.

"Don't trust them. They are planning something by the looks of it. Keep him home" he said.

Sensing my hesitation, "Don't worry, I'll tell him about my observation" he says kindly.

Nodding, "you know my parents?" I started, observing that his smile was slowly diminishing.

"I'm sorry for being so blunt, I know nothing about them and I have so many questions and nightmares, that nothing is adding up" I say quickly as I apologize.

"This company and the shares is a shock to me" hoping he would feel my pain.

Staring at me intently, "Hailey I would love to help you, but my hands are tied." he said with a sad smile. "I do have a suggestion though, confide in Adian! Take that opportunity tonight at dinner and don't socialize with those people. News reports talks about drugging people's drinks, sleeping with them and recording it. Your new position here will cause a lot of men to come after you and not with good intentions." he advises with a warning.

Smiling knowingly, "Growing up and hanging with street kids at the home has taught me so much. I observed they are planning something and I need to find out, because even if we stay away tonight they will keep trying.

" Keeping your marriage quiet for now has it's advantages, because you will see traitors coming between you two, but you and Adian needs to spend time together, that way you'll grow together. Your father would want me to advise you well so that you have a long and happy life." he said looking sadder than he sounded.

Tears welling up behind my eyes, "I need to speak to Adian, alone, go mingle" the board member advises.

Nodding I walk away to speak to Ryan before Adian reached me.

"Hey" I said greeting Ryan, who pulls me into a warm embrace.

Observing my still moist eyes, "what's wrong?" he as with concern.

How could I tell him, when it's a forbidden topic.

Looking down. "I saw Ms. Stewart and Clyde looking at me and talking, like they're planning something,. I felt uneasy, afraid" I say.

"Hold that" he said calling someone behind me.

Roberts approached us, "Yes Mr..Knights" he greeted Ryan politely.

"Oh quit that" Ryan brushes away his polite greetings and briefly told him what I observed and how I felt

Nodding, "Yes sir" Roberts said, walking away.

Looking confused, "he's been working for me since hen was a teenager so he know what my instructions would be" Ryan chuckles.

"So you and Adian and dinner" that's wonderful. please keep my son happy " he requests emotionally.

Nodding, "I'll try my best, even through I'm afraid"

"Doe a huge favour, if any problems ever come between the both of you let me know so I could help. Even if it's a person, just come to me" he continues emotionally.

"Nodding, "I have work to do, so I should go back to my office" I told Ryan, turning to leave.

"Wait for Adian, please" Ryan requests

Wondering if it would be out of place to ask

I look back to see Adian's back facing me, quickly turning back to Ryan. "Did Adian ever you know, date Ms Stewart" I asked quickly

"No I didn't" was whispered softly into ear and I was too ashamed to turn around and face Adian. "Let's go" he said, turning to his father, "I'll meet you there" he said, placing a hand on my back ushering me out of the board room.
