Chapter Fifty Seven - Ex

Adian's POV

Hailey's really good at suppressing her emotions.

The vulnerable girl who wept the night away in my arms last night is gone and in her place, is the sexy, perky, confident woman, standing in my kitchen this morning. In our kitchen, smiling, I walked up behind her seeing her tense up under the watchful eyes of Chubbs.

Turning around, I silently shoo Chubbs away, willing her to leave but she just kept her ass planted in the chair, staring at us with a mischievous smirk.

Conscious that I was standing behind her. Hailey spun around, her face almost hitting my chest.

"Uh, em" she tries to push me further away. but I stood unmovable in front of her.

"Didn't you say something about back to back meetings today?" she quirked suddenly.

"I cancelled" I told her waiting for her reaction, because I knew she was planning to go somewhere and after her mumblings last night, it could be to visit, Allan Sullivan, her uncle.

"Oh" she turns around, washing the dishes in the sink, as I inhaled her shampoo and body wash fragrance.

Chuckling nervously, "so you'll be helping us with preparation for the kids luncheon tomorrow?" she asks.

Stepping back a bit, I looked around the kitchen counter to see bags of groceries scattered in my normally clean counter.

Thinking quickly, "I would like to reimburse you for the groceries" I told her.

Turning around abruptly again, but having a bit more space between us. "No! Why?" she asks searching my eyes for an ulterior motive.

Shrugging, I turned away to see my sister looking at me with raised eyebrows.

Walking across to the percolator, I added more coffee to make a fresh batch.

"I'll do it" Hailey offered coming across to make the coffee for me.

Shaking my head, I added more water, putting the percolator back on.

Turning to face her, "I'm grateful for being appointed the CEO of Sullaknights and I want to give back and starting with the kids that you are fond of, is a good way to start" I told Hailey, noticing her surprise at my confession.

"Also," I took two coffee mugs that she just washed, placing it in front of the percolator, watching the percolator, wishing it's already done.

With folded arms, I turned back to her, "I want to meet Emmy" I said, noticing her features soften as her eyes got moist, with a soft smile.

Walking across to me, she wrapped her arms around my waist, leaning her head on my chest.

"Thank you, thank you" she weeps.

Unfolding my arms trapped between us, I hugged her, "no thank you," I told her softly.

"Okay?" Basil interrupts from the doorway. instantly pulling away, Hailey turned towards him wiping her eyes, while Chubbs and I glared at his improper timing.

Turning on me, "you Ass***e, you made her cry again?" Basil accuses me. Ignoring him, I turned to attend to the coffee making Hailey and I a cup each.

"Make me a cup too and meet me in your office" Basil says, making me turn around to see his retreating back.

Taking another coffee mug, I made the three cups quickly, needing to know what is this important thing Bas needs to tell me and I know it's important.

Handing a cup to Hailey, I picked up the other two cups, "the boss is waiting in my office for me" I told Hailey and Chubb's, walking out the door, ignoring the worried look on Hailey's face and hearing Chubbs light laughter.

My office door was wide open, so I just strode in, giving a cup to a thoughtful looking Basil whose sitting in front of my desk.

It was only when I sat down on my office chair, Bas notice I was in the room. Blinking his eyes as if he just came out of a daze, he looks around. Standing up, he walks and shuts the open door..

Talking up his coffee taking a sip, twisting his mouth in disgust. "man when would you learn!" he mutters to himself.

Narrowing my eyes, observing him, "you got the results" I ask, sipping my bitter coffee, screwing my mouth in disgust.

Laughing out loud, "see" he continues to laugh.

"I made Hailey a cup," I muttered, shaking my head. "it's your fault." I told him, glaring at him, "meet you in my office" I repeated his words, "what's the verdict?" anxious for the DNA results.

Sobering up, "Kristin" was all he said, causing every fiber of my being to raise in disgust and anger.

Fighting the anger boiling inside of me, "why is this important to me?" I asked him

Leaning back, taking another sip of the coffee, screwing his face again.

"News of your ascension to the head of Sullaknights, reached her greedy heart" Bas says with a disgusted frown.

Bas never liked her, even from the beginning. Bas and my relationship was strained during the time I dated her. At least he was there, when I was broken seeing her seducing my father.

She turned the tables on my father who I blamed for our breakup, but I heard her. She told him she doesn't love me and that's it's been him along.

"She's coming after you, you know" he enlightens me.

Frowning, "and how do you know so much? I wondered.

Shifting uncomfortably in the chair, leaning back observing my best friend for the first time struggle to give me a quick response to anything.

" I, am" he stops, chuckling dryly. "I never told you, but I've been dating someone for almost two years" he started, wondering what this has to do with that gold digger, my ex fiancé.

Still unsure of where this conversation is going because I knew he was seeing someone, I just didn't know if it was serious.

I silently waited for the climax of this topic because my wife needs me more.

Looking me straight in the eye, "it's Melinda"
