Hailey's POV
Finally Basil and Mel leaves me alone. I sense that Basil doesn't trust to leave me, but I have things to do.
Jumping off the bed, I bundled up my clean and dirty clothes together in one bag ready to leave, but I need the Bradford's help.
Opening the door, I see light under the door from the room Basil occupies. I moved quietly with my two pieces of luggage and hand bag, leaving my room bare.
Smiling to myself, because this was way too easy, wondering what Basil is up too and if he suspects that I would run.
I walked into the quiet and dimly lit foyer.
"Hailey?" I jumped at sound of someone calling my name.
With hands on my chest, I turn to see Mr Bradford with Mrs Bradford standing quietly behind him.
"Sorry" Mr Bradford apologizes for scaring me when in fact I probably scared him.
Smiling awkwardly because I don't know where to start but I needed another room.
"I need another room but no one is to know and I want Mr Basil and everyone else to believe that I've signed out and left" I explained to them, hoping that the thoughts in my head are coming out of my mouth correct.
Scratching his head in confusion, "you want us to hide you like when you first came here?" Mr Bradford asks, squinting his eyes.
Shrugging, "something like that" I said "and can we do it quickly before everyone wakes up and can you take me to tge police station please?" I asked.
Nodding, Mrs Bradford comes forward, "I have a bedroom with a fully equip bathroom if you want. It's downstairs and no one will know for now" she explains pointing me to the back.
"Thank you and you don't need to register me me. I will pay for my room upstairs and sign off now, if it's convenient" I requested happily because my plan to disappear in plain sight is working.
Mr Bradford takes my luggage to the new room while I sign out, paying for both Basil and my room, before Mr Bradford return to take me to the police station.
The visit to the police station was a waste of time. No charges were laid against Adian's ex and she left with them, which is why I was left behind. What kind of crazy people did I get tied up with..Here I am, second guessing Adian once again.
Would his mother force him to remember HER and forget ME? She did it to my parents and my mom died in the process.
I pulled a bluff on her earlier and it confirms that, her's was the voice I heard calling me when mom rolled down the stairs.
Amelia Knights was the woman at the top of the stairs!
Shocked, I didn't see the person sitting on the low steps when Mr Bradford stopped his vehicle.
"You think you're smarter than me, huh?" Basil sits looking up at me, scratching the light stubble on his chin.
I sat down beside him, wanting to trust him but yet afraid.
"Come inside and we'll serve you coffee" Mr Bradford invites us to follow him in.
I got up and silently look at Basil, tilting my head. "You coming?" I asked.
Basil stood up and preceded me inside the sitting room for guests, where Mrs Bradford had already placed a pot of coffee.
Helping ourselves so that the Bradford's could get some rest, I updated Basil on my findings at the police station.
"Hailey just so you know, Adian didn't leave you willingly.. He was unconscious and his mom's persistent won over his worried father." Basil says encouraging me.
That's not comforting at all because his ex is with them. HIM!
"Maybe she is trying to push her way into his life through his mother, but he has zero interest in her." Basil tells me.
"Did I say that out loud?" I asked myself.
Laughing, "yeah, you did" he confirms, his eyes void of humor.
Furrowing his brows, "when we head back, we'll pay a visit to the police station. Mr and Mrs Bradford will accompany us as witnesses to what went down last night and we'll start from there" Basil says in between sips of coffee, with a troubled expression.
"Mel, mentioned something to me" Basil, put's down his coffee, an unreadable expression on his face.
Looking at him expectantly, waiting for him to continue.
"You mention something to Amelia, about a memory from you past. When your mom died, to be specific" he watches my reaction but I got over the shock of her possibly being there. Now I know it's a fact. She was there!
I didn't deny nor confirm anything, so Basil took the initiative to continue.
"I also heard Mrs Knights mention that you were in a mental hospital" Basil kept his eyes on me as he interrogates me.
Twisting awkwardly in the chair, "it wasn't like that." I said, suddenly the fear I felt when I was fourteen returned. My mental status becomes questionable once again as I'm reminded that my views and feelings doesn't matter because I'm nobody!
With hands clasped on the table, Basil prompts me, "what was it like then. Tell me" he says.
Shifting again, looking around nervously, "I started having reoccurring nightmares, but when I told nanny Peirce about it, she shut me down and said that it must have been a movie I watched. But as the nightmares continued, she took me to a doctor." Frowning as I remember that day as if it was now occurring.
"She didn't just take me to a doctor, she took me to a mental hospital and she did all of the talking while the doctor just listened." realizing that since back then, I was being manipulated.
"Then I heard a voice whispering but I couldn't see the person that said to put me on medication and lock me in a ward"
