Chapter One Hundred and Thirty Five - Steaming Off!

After a quick grocery shopping, Gerard escorted Mel and I to the penthouse helping, us with our bags while he kept the items I bought for his family in the vehicle.

A quick look around the car park confirms that Adian and Basil isn't back yet and I'm worried. Mel was also usually quite for the past three hours or so. She didn't say anything when I asked her and I didn't pry.

I was shocked to see Basil packed and sitting in the living room with all of his and Mel's belongings and the pitiful expression in Mel's eyes.

"What's wrong?" I asked Basil, who quickly looks at Mel and she shook her head then he turns to Gerard, ignoring me.

"Stay with Hailey until Adian returns" He instructs Gerard but I shook my head,

"What's wrong?" I asked again and again Basil refused to answer me. I know it has to do with Adian, so I walked away and headed to our bedroom, locking my door and pulling out my phone to call him.

I called three time and the phone rang out, but my persistence paid off when it was finally answered on the fourth ring.

Jerry: "Hailey" Jerry answered, breathlessly.

Me: "Hello, can I speak to Adian please" I asked him politely.

Jerry: "I am sorry, he cannot come to the phone right now." Jerry answered softly.

Me: "okay" and I hung up, when I heard a knocking on my bedroom door.

I opened it to see Mel alone standing in the hallway,

"Please tell me what's going on." I asked, inviting her further inside the bedroom.

Mel walks in and stands awkwardly inside the room, "Adian's mother's words affected him more than we thought" she says and I wait for her to continue. "He got upset with Basil and fired him" Mel continues while I stared at her shocked. No wonder Basil is leaving.

"So why would he do that?" I asked, hoping this time Mel will get straight to the point and tell me what the f**k actually happened.

Nodding, as she holds her own hands, "there is this girl that Adian, uh... when he is angry or upset, uh.." Mel was having difficulty explaining and it dawns on me, but Jerry also knew and is hiding it from me?

"Sammy" I finished for Mel, remembering the name of the girl he hooked up with the weekend we got married.

Surprise, Mel nods at me and I know I promise I won't run, but I'm not remaining alone.

Walking to my closet, I pulled out a suitcase, "wait for me, I will take a lift to my apartment" I tell her and she follows me confused.

"What?" Mell asks with a bewildered look.

Chuckling mockingly, "do you honestly think I would remain here, alone?" I ask, pulling mostly working clothes, because I have lots of clothes still at my apartment.

After packing my working clothes and personal items, like Mel and Basil, I was ready to leave. I am hurt and disappointed but I am not going to allow anyone to see my pain, not now, not ever.

"Hailey" Mel tries to speak, maybe to persuade me otherwise.

Smiling, "I am fine, and we have work in the morning as usual." I reminded her and she reluctantly walks ahead of me out of the bedroom.

I raised my hand to flick the light switch and saw the wedding band Adian gave me. I took it off and return back to where Adian keeps his valuables, securing it inside with the digits he give me and depositing the ring on top of his files, in plain sight, for whenever he returns.

His mother and his ex and the minions all won! Adian left me, but I will not be broken. I have to make the person who kill my mother pay and breaking down will hinder that process.

Walking back to the door, I switched of the lights and took my suitcase and tote bag along with my handbag to meet the guys who were also waiting for me, shocked plastered on their faces.

My perfect fake smile works every time.

Basil was the first to break the awkward silence, "Hailey I cannot allow you to stay at your apartment alone," Basil explains and I nod.

Smiling, "I understand but I will be fine, I promise you" I lied, because suddenly I am afraid to be alone, once again.

Shaking his head, "I am sorry, but I can't take you" Basil refuses and the fake smile suddenly leaves my face.

I turn to Gerard, "would you take me?" I ask and he looks at Basil hesitantly as if he's waiting for Basil's approval, but not wanting to embarrass Basil I stayed quiet, hoping that Gerard realizes Basil no longer works for Adian.

But he could work for me.

"Then you come and stay with me. I have lots of rooms." I mentally cross my fingers hoping he agrees as I turn to Mel for support.

"Hailey" Basil starts, already going to refused, but I interrupted him.

"Mel?" I ask, "would you come and stay a few days with me until I get a smaller apartment closer to the office.?" I silently wished she'd support me.

"Bas?" She asks Basil and I smiled inwardly, because I know that she is going to help me out here.

Basil and Gerard exchanged a look before Basil agrees and I squealed in excitement while they look at me confused.

"Let's get some containers, Mrs. Harris cooked and no one is going... uh, going to eat all of that." With my handbag on my shoulder, I walked into the kitchen, already opening and closing cupboards and started dishing out food for the three of us and then for Gerard separately.

I took some drink and snacks and the groceries I bought earlier, because nanny Pierce's kitchen was bare.

We left separately, promising to meet in the morning, God's willing!
