I got nervous at the mention of Ameila's name and like the coward that I am, I allowed Caleb to escort me to Adian's office.
He explained that Amelia's aware Mel and I are out on business so l have some time before I face her.
"How did I not know, you made a lunch appointment with her?" Caleb angrily accused me, slamming Adian's door shut behind us.
I stopped in my tracks at that.
"Is that the purpose for her visit?" I turned to ask Caleb, to see him glaring angrily at me.
Glaring at me, "so you do have a lunch appointment with her." He exclaims, raising his hands upwards, in despair.
Shrugging, I walked towards a sofa in Adian's dark and gloomy office, colors which match my present mood.
"Just call and let her know I will go directly to the restaurant after my meeting" I relayed, wondering if I should go the restaurant or wait for Gerard.
I already know Adain would oppose to this lunch, so I will keep my lunch plans with his mother under his radar, for now.
"Right!" Caleb agrees, turning to leave the office, "I'll go down and let her know and call Gerard, at the same time." Caleb says, opening the door to leave.
"Wait," I stopped him, not wanting to have Gerard on this trip, because he's sure to report my meeting back to Adain.
"Gerard is working and it's important, so if he's not back by then," I continued, pointing to the security, who escorted us from the lobby, "he's assigned to work with me, he can go with me, plus she doesn't know him." I confidently assured him, hoping the fear and pounding in my heart don't surface.
Nodding slowly, as if he's unsure of himself, Caleb finally leaves me with the security and MeI in Adian's office.
I turned to Mel, "you don't have to stick around if you have work to complete, you can go back to work and text me if there are any messages and please don't forget," I said as she was about to leave, "don't let Ameila or anyone else know about Jerry's hospitalization." I reminded her, with a light pleading smile.
Standing up, "you sure, meeting with Ameila is a good idea, without Adian's knowledge?" Mel asked hesitantly, my eyes quickly flew to the security, whose name I never got, as he stares at Mel, his eyebrows raised with a puzzle expression on his face.
Trying to make light of the situation and not cause the security to question escorting me to meet my mother-in-law, I shrugged Mel's question off, "I'll just let him know when I return home." I explained, shaking my head, when Mel started to speak again. "It'll be okay, I promise." I assured her.
Mel reluctantly left me and I picked up my handbag, "do you have a vehicle at your disposal?" I asked the security, having a feeling, either Caleb or Mel will contact Adian and I need to leave before, I chicken out and to be honest, I need to hear what she has to say.
Whatever she has to say would be full of lies and to cause problems between Adian and I, that's one thing I'm positive about.
I mentally promise myself not to fall in whatever trap she's trying to set for me, but I hope to enlighten her about Adian's and my findings about my father.
The security nods at me, "yes ma'am, the company has vehicles at our disposal" the security confirms, politely.
With a grin, "then let's go, are you parked underground?" I asked already leading walking towards the doorway searching for the keys to lock the door behind me..
The ride down the elevator was quite, except for the pounding of my heart against my cheat, but not like a panic attack.
After I settled into the SUV,.which Adian seems to have purchased a fleet of, I gave the security, the name of the restaurant, before resting my head against the cushion.
A quick glance at my watch says eleven thirty and I now realised, Adian wasn't at the office.
Where is he?
As the security pulled in front of the hotel where Adian and I had our fake marriage, I frowned wondering why Amelia chose this restaurant.
"Ma'am?" The security broke into my train of thoughts, "one of the reasons your husband hired me, was to keep you safe from his mother." The security explained and I immediately felt bad, for bringing him into the mess, that is my life.
"I'm sorry, you want us to leave?" I asked, "I could always say I got kept back at the meeting." I suggested to the security.
"Do you want to join Mrs. Knight for lunch?" The security asked instead.
Shaking my head slowly, "I don't want to, but I feel as if I should." I said in all honesty. "She's up to something and I need to be prepared for whatever she comes at me with.
Staring back at me with a thoughtful expression, "okay" he agrees, "but you follow my rules, or I take you out of the restaurant by force." He says firmly while I stared back shock.
Breaking the silence, "and what about when Adian asks about you taking me?" I couldn't help but ask, not wanting him to get in trouble with my ignorant husband.
With a light chuckle, he smiles, showing me his full set of pearly whites. "If you follow my instruction, we won't have a problem for your husband to be upset about.
Nodding quickly, before I change my mind.
I quickly stepped out of the vehicle, standing just inside the lobby of the restaurant, waiting for the security, whose name I still don't know, to join me.
While walking into the restaurant, I strained my eyes for a glimpse of Amelia.
" F**k! The security mutters beside me, instinctively pulling me backwards.
"Ma'am we need, to leave, immediately."
