Chapter One Hundred and Sixty Six - Why Another Ex?

Turning around, I searched through the lunch rush for Amelia, but the security, tugged at my arm again.

With a questioning look, I frown at him, "tell me what's wrong and I will obey you." I promise, wondering what could have spooked him off.

Staring over my shoulder for a brief second, "Mrs. Knight has company with her." He stared down at me, as he explained.

Frowning, I shock my head, still puzzled. "Okay?" I responded with a question.

Staring me directly in the eyes, confirming that the security is worried about Amelia's company.

"I'm listening" I said, encouraging him to continue.

"Mrs. Knight" he said slowly, "I've been under Adian's employ for many years and during that time I have learned quite a lot." He said.

Nodding, "Okay?" I answered with a question again, wishing he would just get to the point.

Stepping away from me, "it's not my place to repeat the past to you." He admits.

Past?

Adian's past?

His ex-fiance?

"Is it Adian's ex-fiance?" I asked quickly, my mind wondering in what direction Amelia intends to use Adian's ex, today.

Looking beyond me again, "not the fiance, just a part time h.. uh, girlfriend." He says and I knew Adian has a past, a past with women, so if I can deal with the ex fiancé, I can deal with anything else, she throws at me.

Right?

"If I don't confront it now, she going to try some other way to bring the ex-girlfriend to me." I nod as I spoke, willing him to understand and agree with me. I need all obstacles and problems out of the way before my baby arrives.

"Okay!" The security, smiles at the hostess who stared at us suspiciously. "One thing though, I get a table close by and you eat what I order, nothing else" he warns me in a threatening tone, pointing his index finger at me.

"Okay!" I agreed, second guessing myself for showing up.

Adian is going to be so angry, when he returns to the office from wherever he went today.

We both nod, before I approached the hostess with a nervous smile.

"Good day, ma'am, sir" the hostess greets us politely.

"Hi" I greeted her. "I'm here to meet Mrs. Amelia Knights." I told her, pretending to have a confidence, I didn't possess.

The hostess smiles politely at me, but frowns at the security, before looking at her register.

"Mrs. Knights booked a table for three" She says, her eyes returning to the security.

Smiling just as politely, "I understand, but my husband insisted that his security come with me, is it possible to have a single table for him close to the one I'll be seated at?" I requested, hiding my crossed fingers.

With the same polite smile, she nods and walks over to someone and whispers to him.

The security used that time to speak to me. "What do you want me to order for you?" he asks quickly.

Since I had a late breakfast, "just a chicken salad and orange juice." I give him my lunch order before allowing the waitress to lead me to Amelia Knight's table, with Adian's ex-girlfriend and whatever the next thirty minutes has in stored for me.

Amelia looked up when I approached the table with a twitch at the end of her mouth, her eyes darting quickly across to her company, a blond woman, apparently in her late twenties, her straight hair, tied in a neat bun at the top of her head.

The woman looked away from Amelia, her lips quivering nervously, her upper body pushed against the table.

"Hailey" Amelia greeted me and I nod with the same fake smile Amelia bestowed on me.

"Mrs. Knights" I retuned her greetings, standing beside the table, looking down at Amelia and her guest.

Indicating the unoccupied chair set in a triangle, I turned to the waitress, "thank you!" I smiled politely, adjusting my chair after sitting down.

With my eyes downwards, I caught a glimpse of the blond woman, twiddling her fingers nervously.

Whatever Ameila is up to, it seems as if the woman is uncomfortable to be involved.

Lifting my head, with my famous fake smile plastered in place.

"Mrs. Knight, to what do I owe a lunch invitation from you?" I asked quickly, hoping Ameila and her guest doesn't hear the pounding of my heart against my chest.

Chuckling dryly, "well you are my daughter-in-law and still a stranger." Amelia commented, her laughter definitely not reaching her eyes.

I looked beyond her to see the security being seated behind Ameila, with his phone attached to his ear.

Panic rushed over me. Could he talking to Adian?

Did I get the security in trouble?

Smiling sadly, "and whose fault is that?" I couldn't help taking a jibe at her, since her choices have made us strangers.

A brief surprise crossed Ameila's face, but disappeared just as suddenly. "I can't promise any changes for the future." She retorted dryly.

Nodding, I smiled at the woman who was suppose to be a mother figure to me. A woman who claimed to be my mom's best friend. A woman who not only betrayed my mom, but killed my mom.

Staring back at the woman who murdered my mother, "I guess, our future plans does not include building a relationship with each other." I admitted sadly. "But I hope we can at lease be civil towards each other, for Adian's sake."

At the mention of Adian's name her eyes widen, "yes Adian," she repeated his name slowly, her eyes darting across to the blonde woman seated with us.

I looked over her shoulder to see the security seated with his back turned to Ameila, as he no doubt listens to our conversation.

Straightening herself on the chair, a waitress brings three plates, with food already dished out, watching on as Ameila directs her, where to put each plate.

"I took the liberty of ordering for you." She says with a smirk.
