As Bas drove into the the car park of my apartment building, my phone started ringing as I stepped out of the vehicle.
I walked away from the guys as Bas secures the vehicle. Ger's still upstairs awaiting our return, so he'll give Mac a lift to his vehicle.
Leaning against my Benz, I reluctantly answered, Samantha.
"Samantha" I abruptly answered her.
Crying hysterically on the other end of the line.
"Adain" Samantha cried, taking deep breaths, "you're not here." She says between hiccups.
Confused about her reason for crying into the phone like this, when she was playing games with my wife earlier this afternoon alongside my mother.
"I was almost there when I had to turn around because of an incident, that just came up." I explained, trying to be as honest as possible, without saying how f**king angry I am, at the extent of her betrayal.
"So you aren't coming?" Samantha cries eases up as she starts speaking again.
As much as I want to trust Samantha, the lies she said to my wife, makes it hard to trust her now!
"Samantha, are you staying at my mom's tonight? " I asked, wondering how far my mother is willing to take this level of deception?
There was a long pause before Samantha spoke again, "uh, I'm not sure," she mutters softly.
Bas passes me with a nod towards the lift. Leaning away from the car, I followed Bas and Mac into the lift, still speaking to Sam on the other line.
I need to end this conversation before I get to the apartment, "tell me quickly, what is going on and why you need to see me, because I may not be able to getaway until tomorrow morning." I explained impatiently.
"Uh," Samantha started and paused again.
"Samantha, I'm on the clock here. Be quick or we will continue this conversation tomorrow." I responded, with my eyes counting the floors as we ascend to my penthouse and Hailey.
From the corner of my eyes, I notice Mac and Bas turned to face me staring with shock expression on their faces.
"Okay, Okay" she responded quickly, realizing that I'm on the verge of cutting her off.
"I was doing some shopping earlier today and met your mother, who didn't know I was pregnant." Samantha started explaining her reason for being with my mother this afternoon.
Needing to have this conversation out of the way, I stopped the lift, much to Bas's annoyance.
"I'm listening" lowering my tone, encouraging her to continue, so that I can have a peaceful evening with my wife.
"Your mother was curious, so she invited me to lunch and mentioned that she'll be meeting your wife. I never met your wife before so I agreed to join them for lunch." Samantha continued. She's f**king lying but I still don't know why?
"I ended up meeting Hailey, but when she heard I was your ex-girlfriend, her attitude towards me changed in an instant," Samantha continue to explain her version of her first and hopefully last encounter with Hailey.
"Okay, but for the record your were never my girlfriend" I informed but at the same time, while encouraging her to continue.
"Well your mother ordered water and juices, but your wife ordered a bottle of wine and started drinking when she found out I was pregnant." Samantha says in such a convincing tone, that I would have believed her, if I didn't see the video.
"She drank so much, she eventually started accusing me of being pregnant with your baby in front of all the patrons who were close by. It was so emotionally draining for me, because she accused me of being a gold digger and the only reason I was with your mother." Samantha starts crying all over again. "Was to get money from you." Samantha is a really good actress or my mother's paying her good money for her involvement in this plot to defame my wife.
"Okay, I understand," I spoke in a condoning tone. "I will have a word with her when I get home and get to the bottom of this." I promised
"I'm sorry I had to be the one to give you this bad news about your wife. Your mother did say that if she told you about your wife's behaviour, you wouldn't have believed her." Samantha continues again when I just wanted this conversation over and done with.
"Stay at my parents tonight if you're comfortable, but I have to go. I'll try to call you tomorrow." I said and without waiting for her response, I cut the call and press the button to resume the lift to my apartment and Hailey.
"What was that all about?" Bas being the bolder of the two men with me, ask, tilting his head towards the phone in my hand.
Shaking my head, my lips curled in disgust, "just Samantha's version of having lunch with Hailey." I told him, hoping the conversation ends there.
"And?" Bas persisted.
"And it totally contradicts the conversation in the video." I retorted.
Chuckling dryly, "so what you're saying, is that she's f**king lying," Bas who never liked her, even way back in high school says mockingly.
Refusing to agree with him, the door opened and I was the first one to walk out.
"Saved by the door!" Bas shouts, following me inside, after I unlocked the door.
Gerard was sitting behind the kitchen table, looking bored and alone.
"Where are the ladies?" I asked looking around.
Chuckling to himself, "well, his" he started, pointing at Bas, "girlfriend is practically drunk and your wife" he points to me, "went up to help her shower and Mrs. Harris just went to make sure they are all good."
A low whistle comes from Bas's direction, "shower, you said?" He laughs and walks off to the refrigerator, opening the door he turns to Mac.
"Come help yourself" he invites him and walks away, leaving the door open for Mac.
