Chapter One Hundred and Seventy Seven - Confronting Adian

Adian turned his head giving me an appraisal, my throat got dried in an instant at the dark smoldering look in his eyes.

He turned and smiled at Basil, lifting his coffee mug in salute, before taking a sip.

My mouth fell open when my eyes fell on Mel, whose clearly nursing a hangover. I tried but couldn't hold back the gasp that escape my lips nor the laugher that followed.

Mel glared at me and, but kept holding her head in place.

"I sorry" I continued giggling, "but I've had my good share of hangovers, but now I've graduated." I tell her sobering up.

Mel continues glaring at me, but frowns at my comment and this time my husband starts to laugh.

Standing up he walks across to the perculator to get a coffee and pulls another cup and pours from a pot on the stove, then stirs it before returning to his seat.

Pulling me by the hip, he tilts his head to the extra cup, "chocolate" he says softly and chuckles at my screwed up face.

Smiling up at me, "I think Hailey inhaled too much of what Mel had last night," he started to tell us and anticipating what he was going to say, I quickly placed a hand over his mouth.

Glaring down at him, "don't, or you'll regret it." I threatened him, but he bites the palm of my hand instead.

"Ouch!" I yelled, pulling my hand away.

"I found her over the toilet seat puking her guts out this morning." Adian chuckles but Basil bursts out laughing.

Pointing at my head, "is that why you were running in the corridor in a towel, dripping wet?" Basil laughs, wiping his eyes.

Glaring now at Basil, embarrassed about my bathroom fiasco, much to Adian's amusement and now Basil's. Thankfully, Mel has too much of a hangover to dwell on it.

I tried to move away but Adian's grip tightened around me, holding me in place.

"Drink up, we've some round to make this morning and we'll be having breakfast outside," Adian says drawing my tea closer to me.

I am hungry and breakfast outside sounds great.

Without hesitating, I quickly took large gulps of the hot liquid, excited for my first, 'working on the road' trip with my husband.

Waving an index finger at Adian, "make sure you got lots of money on you, because I heard this one here," Basil points at me as he speaks, "had quite a few meals outside yesterday." Basil chuckles and I ignored his comments.

Tugging at me, "you got my wallet?" Adain asks and I nod, remembering that I also got his phone and his messages from Samantha.

Adian stands up, "all right, let's go" he says and I moved to hug a still disoriented Mel, while Basil and Adian have a few words as they walked out the kitchen.

I frowned down at Mel, "you okay for today?" I asked, sweeping my hand over her head.

With a wry smile, she looks up at me, "I'll live," she grimaces and I can relate to her headache.

Leaning down, I hug her, "I'm only a phone call away," I promised her and hating that I will be out of the office for a second day in a row, but liking the thought of spending it with Adian, even if it's work related.

I smiled when I saw Adian's Maserati light up, excited to be travelling in it today.

"May I? Please?" I beg Adian as we walked towards our mode of transport for today.

Ignoring me, Adian opens the passenger seat for me and like a spoilt child, I slid into the passenger seat, shutting him off.

Adian slide behind the wheel and I envied him more now, than I did when he was drinking his coffee.

Realizing I was giving him the silent treatment, Adian drove out of the car park unto the busy street, joining the ongoing traffic.

I kept my head straight ahead and Adian sensing my mood or lost in his own thought, remained silent.

I jumped when Adian's phone started ringing and started fiddling around in my small handbag to find it.

"Answer it and put it on speaker" Adian instructed me firmly, without taking his eyes off the road.

Taking a deep breath, I answered Samantha.

"Hello?" I answered timidly, with my eyes on Adian, whose eyes was on the vehicle in front of him as he drove in this bumper to bumper traffic.

If I didn't hear the breading, I would have assume she hung up.

"Hello!" I repeated in a much more firmer and confident tone.

"Yes, may I speak to Adian please?" Samantha requested, her tone unwavering.

"He's listening" I informed her after Adian nods for her to go ahead.

Is this his way of introducing me to the mother of his, other unborn child?

After a slight hesitation, "Adian, I need to speak to you, in private." Samantha says in softer tone.

Chuckling dryly, "well sweetheart, this is the most private it's going to get, since I'm working with my wife on the road today." Adian takes his eyes of the road for a brief second to wink at me.

"So coming by this afternoon is out of the question?" Samantha says, her voice edge with a tinge of anger.

Taking a deep breath, "like I said, I am working on the field today," Adian responds impatiently.

Samantha releases a soft snicker, "you didn't hesitate to come by for a quick f**k, now did you?" She retorted angrily.

Whatever was holding Adian's patience in, broke.

"Yes and it worked both ways," Adian barked into the phone, causing me to jump and look away from the fierceness in his eyes. "Don't forget it never came for free and you were paid highly for it." Adian shouted and I cringed back in my seat.

Why am I hearing this conversation between Adian and his ex, whatever she was or is.

Apparently regretting the turn her conversation has taken, she starts apologizing
