Chapter One Hundred and Seventy Eight - Hospital Visit

"I'm sorry Adian" Samantha cried, which was certainly a different tune from the one she was just singing.

Adian didn't answer and I was afraid to even hang up on her.

"I shouldn't have allowed myself to be coaxed by your mother into trying to come between you and Hailey," Samantha whimpers softly as she apologies to Adian, who was only concentrating on changing lanes, as he tries to cut through the traffic, aggressively.

How could I have thought throwing up on Adian would have been a bad way to start my day?

Samantha, is a bad way to start my day and the morning's still young.

"Adian?" Samantha calls out and I was so deep into my own thoughts, for an instant, I forgot she was there.

Finally Adian turns to face me, "the person you should be apologizing to, is my wife." Adian responds, between clenched teeth.

Just as I thought, Samantha remained silent, because her only interest was making amends with Adian, not me.

"Cut the call, Hailey" Adian instructs me and I look across, frowning, to see him nodding at me.

"Wait, wait, wait" Samantha shouts into the phone and I waited.

"Uh Hailey" she says and stops.

"Yes!" I responded nervously.

"I'm sorry about yesterday and the lies I said to you." Samantha was saying, but all I heard was the word lies.

She lied to me?

Is it about the baby?

Why isn't she elaborating?

"Okay" I whispered in a daze, hoping she'll say more.

Adian's eyes were glued on the road, but I know his listening attentively to Samantha's conversation with me.

"Okay" Samantha repeats and hangs up.

What else was I suppose to say?

How was I suppose to respond to her apology?

I said okay, that conveys that I accepted her apology.

Taking a deep breath, I realize Adian was driving towards the hospital.

"Are we having breakfast at the hospital?" I frowned.

Hearing the chuckling beside me, I turn to stare at my husband, who now appears less stress.

"You wanted to eat first?" He asks and I shrugged.

"No, I'm good" I smiled, hoping it reached my eyes. "I'll wait" I assure Adian.

Taking a hand of the wheel, Adian places a hand on my knee.

"I know my babies are hungry." Adian chuckles, caressing my knee affectionately.

Trying to match his mood without bringing up the elephants in the car, Samantha and Amelia.

I caress my tummy, "yeah, babies are always hungry!" I laugh softly.

It was almost nine when we arrived inside the hospital to visit Jerry.

Holding my waist, Adian guided me towards the lift, drawing me in front of him as the lifts starts filling up with nurses and janitors.

As we wait to arrive on Jerry's floor, Adian wrapped his arms around my waist and pulls me back against his chest resting his chin on my head for comfort, caressing my belly gently.

"I hope you love what I have organized for second stop" Adian whispers.

Twisting my neck around to face him, "breakfast?" I asked hopefully, blinking my eyes, with a coy smile.

A mischievous smirk dancing on the edges of his lips, "and breakfast," he says, spinning me around to face him. Leaning down Adian's lips met mines in a slow soft kiss, when the elevator dinged.

"Fuck" Adian, muttered, adjusting his black dress shirt that was hanging loose over his jeans waist.

Chuckling, I walked ahead of Adian, tugging him behind me, playfully.

The door of Jerry's room was open, but Adian walked in first and looked around, nodding for me to join him.

"Adian, my boy" I heard Jerry greet Adian, before I saw him, but when his eyes fell on me, he stretched out his arms "my beautiful daughter," he gushes.

I smiled up at Adian, pulling out of his hold and walked quickly into Jerry's open arms.

"I missed you" I said drawing away to observe him. "Are you lots better?" I asked quickly, moving aside as Adian came to hug his uncle.

"Hey big guy, how are you feeling," Adian asks affectionately, staring at his uncle's face, frowning. "Are they starving you in here?" Adian asks jokingly, but his smile didn't reach his eyes.

Jerry's smile disappeared instantly.

"Nah, them motherf**ker's are going to put me under the knife." Jerry tried to add some humor to his comment, but like Adian, he was worried.

I place a hand against Adian's back, running my finger up and down his now tense back.

"Is that why dad called me here this morning?" Adian was quick to ask and I know that Adian brought me here, but I didn't know it was at his father's request.

Nodding, Jerry lays lack, "yeah, the doctors want to see my family," Jerry was explaining to Adian and I tensed up

I cannot take another dose of Ameila today! Especially on an empty stomach.

As if sensing or noticing my immediate distress, Jerry laughs softly.

"Don't worry, together with my wife and your father-in-law, you guys are the only family, I need or want in my life." Jerry smiles, assuring me.

Still uncomfortable, I shook my head, staring up at a worried Adian, who still hasn't taken his eyes off his uncle, his fingers tightly clutching the bar of the bed, Jerry laid on.

"You shouldn't keep your sister at arms length because of me," I smiled sadly.

Laughing out louder, "oh sweetheart that's not what's happening here." Jerry lean forwards to whisper, "the only two reasons I kept her around all these years, is Adain and you." Jerry says, his eye staring up at his nephew's

Sobering up, he continues, "Adian is learning the truth and you're finally with us and Adian will keep you safe." Jerry adds and I stared at him confused.

Keep me safe?

Adian was the first to break the silence, "keep her safe?" Adian repeats the question that's making rounds in my head to Jerry.

Jerry nods!
