Chapter Two Hundred and Thirty Nine

Hailey was not in bed when I awoke.

Without thinking twice, I ran out of the bedroom in my boxers and took a peek in Emmy's room to see her fast asleep.

I mean it's still dark outside, everyone is asleep, except Hailey.

The next stop was the kitchen which was also empty but the smell of freshly brewed coffee, caught my attention.

Nope, she not in the living room either but she was in the entertainment room, stretched out on the long sofa, shushing Bas who was stretched out on MY recliner, commenting on a movie they were looking at, on the floor to ceiling screen in front of them.

I stepped back and retreated to the bedroom satisfied that she's fine but since I'm awake, I did my morning routines earlier before brewing my own coffee and joining my bestfriend and my wife.

They were both unaware of me being in the room with them, because of an intense piece of gun play that's going on in the movie.

Hailey was so engrossed in the screen in front of her, that she screamed in fear when I lifted her feet to sit down.

With her feet flying in the wildly in the air, kicking the mug of coffee in my hand. Her screams alerted her sidekick in the room who was already rushing to help me, till they realized it was me.

It I hadn't lost my f**king mug of coffee, it would have been funny!

"Are you f**king craze?" Bas bellowed at me.

I stared at the both of them and shrugged. Picking up my empty coffee mug before walking out the room.

I could hear Bas cursing while I walked away because I took away the momentum of the movie from them.

Happy to know that since I lost my coffee.

I stood behind the stove waiting for my coffee when I felt hands on either side of my waist.

"Here let me," she offered, nudging her head under my arm but I won't budge.

"Did you forget the motherf**king rules?" Bas shout grumpily, moving towards the kitchen sink with two mugs in his hand.

Hailey frowned at the Bas and I, clueless about Bas's outburst, "it wasn't horror," I responded gruffly, "it was a f**king action scene." I reminded him.

I chuckle at the only thing Hailey got out of my comment, "you're afraid of horror movies?" Turning in my arms to stare at Bas in disbelief.

Glaring at the both of us and pointing to his chest, "I'm an Marine on injury leave, just so you know" he stated moving around me to light up the stove under another pot.

Frowning, "I'm making you coffee," I told him when he turns to look at my wife.

"I'm making her chocolate tea," he says nodding at Hailey.

Spinning around , "great" she shouts on her way out, "I'll be in the TV room." Her voice fades as she runs off to the entertainment room.

Giving Bas a backhand slap against his stomach, "go ahead I'll bring it," I offered chuckling my my best friend's retreating back.

Hailey's great with my friends and acquaintances.

It was never this way with the f**king cheating whore!

I lost contact with most of my friends, especially Bas who eventually forgive me after he was sure she wasn't coming back in my life.

But Hailey's different!

If there weren't any history between our families, my mother would have loved Hailey too.

I know there will be changes to our lives when her father returns but how would the changes affect us, especially when he would want to have a relationship with his second daughter, whom his first daughter is still in the dark about.

David wants to be the one to break the news to her and I secretly hope it does not blow up in my face.

Like a maid to the two tv hounds who chose to start a Monday watching movies, I filled a plate with pastries with their drinks and went to serve them in the entertainment room.

Even though we were up early, it was a rush organizing for our day with my wife eager to return to the office, her heartbreak yesterday nowhere in sight.

Bas remained at SullaKnights with Hailey while dad, Gerard and I went over to Knights Foundation to meet Anthony who was already waiting on us having already order work files from each department and especially from the office of Allan Sullivan, the man I intend to kick down from the top!

Allan was surprise to see dad and I at the office since we have left the reign of the Foundation in his hands while I work at SullanKnights full time since Jerry's hospitalization.

No one knows about Hailey's miscarriage and we intend to keep it this way but I'm sure that tongues have been wagging concerning my missing wife who only re-surfaced on the news this weekend and what's been going on in our lives.

"So how is my niece?" Allan asks when dad left for the washroom and Anthony went out to collect lunches for us.

I know Bas will ensure the girls have theirs but Bas will have to leave with Hailey to pick Emmy up at her school.

Without lifting my eyes to look at him, "She's good" I responded politely, boiling inside, hating that I have to discuss my wife with the scoundrel she considers to be her uncle.

"How does she feel about her father?" He asks nervously.

I fought the urge to drag him over the desk and choke him with his f**king green tie.

Putting my pen down, I leaned back in my chair and stared at him squirming where he sat in the CEO's chair waiting or my response.

Curling my lips in disgust, "considering she didn't know he was alive," I shrugged, keeping him imprisoned with my eyes. "How do you think?" I smiled.
