Chapter Two Hundred and Forty - Sly Mr. Gussippie's

My first day back at the office was actually hectic since Caleb and Adian wasn't here but the good news is that Jerry would be returning to work four or five hours a day from now on.

Mrs. Prescott is adamant about it and also promises to pick him up herself everyday if he doesn't obey not just her but the doctors orders.

Unknown to Adian, I held a meeting with David... my father's lawyer today sharing with him information from my files during my therapeutic years, which baffled him.

As much as he begged, I refused to relinquish my hold on the files, already planning to take them home with me after work today.

Mr. Gussippie after realizing I've finally been told why my father was imprisoned, explain how low the odds were about him not being released, especially since he himself pleaded guilty for a crime he didn't commit, foregoing a trial.

FLASHBACK

"How do you think my father feels about seeing me after so many years?" I asked because I need to know that he was as excited and happy and over the moon, as I was.

Staring at me, his eyes soft and gentle as if he staring into the eyes of a baby.

"I haven't spoken to him yet," Mr. Gussippie admitted and I understood because I only met my father for the first time in sixteen years, yesterday.

"But, when I first met with him, the only thing or in your case, person," Mr. Gussippie pauses, "is, his Hailey Bear." Mr. Gussippie smiles.

Nodding happily, feeling tears already burning my eyes once again, "so he did miss me all those years ago," Since I found out my daddy is alive, it's a different feeling.

"Thank you," I clasped my hands prayerfully under my chin, "I still can't understand why he didn't reach out during the last couple of years but I am happy my husband finally found him." I continued sharing my feelings before I burst with excitement.

Frowning Mr. Gussippie looks over his shoulder, then continues speaking in a lower tone.

"Mr. Sullivan did reach out to you," Mr. Gussippie stuns me with his response.

Shaking my head, "I don't understand," confused, I kept shaking my head in denial. "No," pausing, "I didn't know." I admitted. "Who did he send the message with." I asked wondering if someone tried to give me a message but I was unable to get it because of some stupid set back.

Looking over his shoulder once again, where Basil sat staring at us, as usual with a guarded expression.

"Your mother-in-law and her daughter Adana Knights were the only two visitors over the last few weeks," Mr. Gussippie informed me, his eyes on his notepad. "Well actually Adana Knight has been a regular during the last few weeks, whilst her mother has been visiting regularly over the years." He said, correcting himself. "Also, Mr. Knox, the family lawyer would visit when he was summoned," raising his head from the notepad, watching my reaction.

All that surprises and confuses me at the same time, "Adana Knight?' I repeated. "But why would she visit him and why wasn't I told?" biting my lips, shaking my head in disbelief.

I know Basil is to far away to hear what he are discussing and I also know that Adian will be informed of Mr. Gussippie's visit but I don't care right now, because finding out that even Adana had been privy about my father's existence baffles me.

Scuffing, disappointed.

"And no mentioned it," I said to myself.

Placing his hands flat on the desk, "there's something you should know but please don't reaction in shock because your husband's bodyguard would kill me." Mr. Gussippie advises me and hungry for any information concerning my father and I, I readily agree.

"They told him that you didn't want to see him," Mr. Gussippie whispers, lowering his voice even more.

I fought so hard to keep my face from crumbling with what I've just been told.

"There's more," Mrs. Gussippie says, "do you want to know?" He asks and I nod because I felt to choked up to speak.

"They told him, that your lifestyle was disgraceful and with your constant partying and drug habits, the last thing you wanted, was to see him, since his money was all you needed." Having said that, Mr. Gussippie shut his notepad and leaned back with a small smirk.

PRESENT

I can't remember much about Mr. Gussippie saying goodbye, because I ended up in the washroom, washing my face to keep myself from falling apart.

I couldn't even remain in the bathroom too long because Basil would have called Adian and I am not ready to share what I just learnt.

Basil pulled up in front Emmy's school and turned to me, "do you want me to go in alone?" He asks, making eye contact with me through the rearview mirror.

Shaking my head, I opened the door but Basil was also exiting the vehicle.

Chuckling, "you can remain in the car," I suggested but he ignored me.

Right, Adian would never allow it!

Basil and I walked side by side towards the Elementary school entrance where students were already being collected by their parents, so we just waited in line instead of flocking and blocking the entrance.

Leaning closer to Basil, "you could have waited in the vehicle." I whispered, feeling the eyes of every parent on me as the led their child out, one by one.

Leaning to speak once again, "is it my imagination or is everyone staring at me?" I whispered to Basil. Self-conscious, I sweep my hands over the lower half of my dress.

I knew my back to work dress is relatively decent. A simple thin strapped, black fitted dress with a red jacket to cover my exposed shoulders. My long hair swept neatly away from my face in a high ponytail, emphasising my freshly washed makeup free face.

"Adana's here,"
