Chapter Thirteen
Liza slept off in the car from waiting for the rain to stop .
After a while ,she woke up anxiously throwing her eyes about .
"Oh my gosh !" She screamed as a car almost clashed with hers .
"What nonsense!"She angrily got out of the car ,banged her door heavily and walked towards the driver in the heavy rains .
He also got out of his car and walked towards her as she did same .
It was obvious he would get angry because Liza parked her car at the wrong part of the road .
At a point ,she stopped walking and calmed herself down .
She then realized that she was at fault for not parking rightly and so she needed to explain to him as to why she parked over there before he sued her .
It was a traffic regulation law not to park at the wrong part of the road and being an attorney herself ,she understood better so she needed to settle this with him before it got out of hand.
As he walked closer ,she felt nervous and wished Clinton was there right now by her side .
Before she could say sorry ,she couldn't believe who was actually standing in front of her once she lifted up her head and wiped off the rains from her face .
She blinked her long lashes at him and turned around quickly with mixed emotions .
"Liza !" He called out in a soft voice as always .
Liza took in a deep breath and turned around to look into his moonlit eyes in tears .
"Clinton!"She burst out into heavy tears and stepped away from him.
They were both drenched in the rain but they kept on starring at each other .
Liza was shocked seeing him in front of her !
This whole time she was expecting to see him and tell him how much she loves him but looking at him right now ,she was feeling betrayed .
She did everything for his sake just to clear his name but he left her and ran away like a coward !
After Melody's case ,he left and never answered any of her calls and messages .
"I hate you ! I hate you so much !"Liza uttered these words and ran away in tears towards her car .
"Liza ! Liza listen to me ,at least !"Clinton went after her with his car but she wasn't ready to give in to his demands .
Clinton parked near her car and pulled her into his arms forcefully .
"Liza ! Listen to me ,please !"Clinton said in a soft tone .
"Listen to you ,huh?! Where has that ever gotten me ?!
All you do is leave like a coward and come back to say sorry and you think it's enough ,huh?!
Don't you dare show me your face again or else I swear that you won't like my reaction at all !
Leave me alone !"Liza pulled away from him forcefully.
"Listen here ! I know I'm a jerk and .."Clinton was interrupted by Liza angrily.
"It's good you know !"She began to walk away angrily while Clinton kept chasing after her .
"Watch out !"Clinton said ,pushing her from the street onto the pavement .
She almost got ran over by a car .
"Are you alright ?" He asked ,hugging her tightly .
"Get off me ,jerk !"Liza quickly pulled away from his embrace and stood up steadily.
"Saving me from an accident doesn't justify your deeds !
I could have either ways saved myself!"Liza said in an egoistic tone .
"Gosh Liza !
I know you're angry and it's justified but that doesn't me that you tamper with your life because of your ego !"Clinton said bluntly.
"Really? My ego ?!
Clinton , you've got no shame at all ! My ego leading me ,ha!
You seem to have forgotten that it's my life and I can choose to live it well or worse and of course Clinton ,my anger is justified and that's why I don't want to see your face ever again !
Go back to where you came from , because if you came back to make amends with me then it's a great loss at your high stakes !
And oh ! In case you've forgotten ,let me remind you ! ; that you left me without a word !
Everything I did then was for your sake !It was to protect your reputation !
I dealt deep into the case and saved you from a huge lie that could have destroyed your life but you never asked for an explanation !
You had no patience and neither could you figure out what was going on !
You left without answering any of my calls and messages and you think that's cool ,huh?!
You didn't care about what I felt or what I would do with my life after you left ,did you ?!
No you didn't!
You are a coward and you will always be !
But you and i are different; the difference is that I take risks while you ran away from them !
You and I are no match ,you get it ?!"Liza angrily pressed her index finger against his chest .
"Yeah , you're right !
Everything you said is true ! I know I'm a coward but try to understand that it took time for me to understand everything !
You could have at least given me a gist about your plan but you didn't!
You made me feel like I wasn't worth it !
And yeah !; you did so much for me and my self esteem and there's no way I would forget your sacrifice but try to understand me Liza ,please !
I'm back and I want us to start all over again !
Give me another chance and let us get married and start a family together !
Liza ,after all the trials our love has been put through , don't tell me you're giving up on us ,huh?
A lot has happened from the first day we met till date !
Liza ,let's cease this opportunity and start a new life together !
Please don't give up on us ; on our love !" Clinton said ,grabbing Liza by the hand but she stood still and sniffed at him before releasing herself from his grip with a grin .
"It's too late now ,Clinton !
I can't keep trading my heart for something unreliable anymore!
I'm tired of having to keep up with all these messes around us and our relationship all the time !
I'm sorry Clinton but it's over !
I think we should move on with our lives and go our separate ways !
Go home now ; your parents might probably be waiting for you !"Liza said , sorrowfully stopping a cab leaving poor Clinton in absolute despair .
Once Liza got home , her father was standing on the corridor agitatedly . She took some cash from him and settled the cab driver .
"Dad !"Liza called out wearing a smile on her face .
"Why did you arrive in a cab instead of your car ?
And why are you so drenched?
I was so agitated ,you know ?
Your mother won't stop buzzing me here and there over your whereabouts!
What happened ?!
Why didn't you even call and when we tried calling ,why was your phone off ?!"Ben asked , agitatedly and worriedly .
"Calm down dad ! There's no need to get worked up on this issue !
Besides , I'm here now !
And anyways , my car broke down on the road and I needed to get a cab home so I got drenched in the process ! I wanted to call you but my phone's battery died and I didn't carry a charger along to work !;not even a power bar !
So just don't get worked up because of this !"Liza said ,throwing her eyes about worriedly.
"Sorry ! I didn't mean to get so angry at you or raise my voice at you but try to understand that I was worried sick!"Ben said to her ,pulling her into his tight embrace .
"I understand!"Liza said to him ,pulling away from his embrace when Corazon came downstairs.
"Oh my gosh!
You're so drenched Liza !
What happened ?"Corazon asked worriedly.
"Mummy ,there's no need to worry because I'm absolutely fine !
I'm going upstairs now !"Liza said ,rushing upstairs to her room .
"Go check up on her while I deal with the incident with her car !"Ben said to Corazon .
Corazon nodded and rushed upstairs to check up on Liza .
"Knocks ,knocks !
Can I come in ?"Corazon peeped her eyes through the room .
"Of course ,come in mummy !"Liza said ,and got back to her seat to wring her hair dry .
"Let me help you !"Corazon said ,taking the towel from Liza and helping her wring her hair dry .
"I know there's something wrong with you my dear !
You're immune to my charms so I can't read your mind but I know how you got drenched even if you don't tell me !
It was all because of Clinton ,right ?"Corazon asked ,rolling her eyes at her daughter with a grin on her face .
"Ha !
How did you know that ?"Liza asked , rolling her eyes at her mother too .
"Ah well ! I foresaw it but I couldn't manipulate your minds to know what you were both thinking !
Look here , you're my daughter and that's why you're immune to my charms but your affair with Clinton makes him immune as well !"Corazon added ,drying Liza's hair with a dryer after wringing it dry .
"Hmm!
Today ,after setting my eyes on him once again ,I could only feel betrayed and nothing else !
He left me at the point where I needed him most and all of a sudden he appears right in front of me and askes me to marry him ,really ?
What does he take me for ?
Look mummy , I love Clinton but I don't want to set my eyes on him again ! ; Well ,at least not for now !
I just hate him right now mummy ,I hate him!" Liza angrily threw a jar onto the floor causing it to break into pieces .
"It's just that it pains my heart to know that it ended up like this between us !"Liza sat down in absolute despair wiping away her tears .
