A mistake

Camera flashes and people gasping and screaming filled the air.

My eyes are wide as I quickly transport back to Jane and get into the car. I change into my human form and check Jane for any injuries. She seems fine. Expect for the astonishment evident on her face.

"What is it?"

"They...they know..." My brows crash close together, her face still in between my fingers.

"Who knows what...?"

"They saw you change..."

Oh my goodness...

My hand slowly drops to my lap, but Jane takes it in hers and keeping my freezing hand warm.

I was freezing from anxiety.

"Who?" I ask her shakily.

"A group of few teenagers, they might've already shared everything to the internet. Ron I'm scared..." I keep my anxiety aside and take Jane in my embrace. My identity...has been exposed.

My worst of fears has finally come to reality...

"It's...it's fine. Really, Jane. There has to be a way."

All that makes me worry more is...The world knows the elemental is mated with the wolf princess. So if I've been exposed, and the public has grasped that I - Ronald Jones, must be the elemental...and Jane to be the princess...

Oh great. I've put us both into the mouth of danger.

The King's going to behead me for sure this time...

But firstly, let me just make sure I haven't become 'popular' yet.

"They might still be in that building. Can you recognise them?" she nods.

"Let's go." I transport back to the building with Jane. We reach the roof top and find the group of five boys all clustered together as they shared small, whisper talks.

I and Jane quickly change our identities and approach the group.

"W-what are you watching?" I pretend to be traumatized from earlier and stutter intentionally.

"Yo man, we found something very informational!" The one with blue eyes said and came towards us with the intention of showing us the video.

'...be careful' her voice was small but I heard it, the video ended.

"The police will know who that mysterious guy is!" My hands began to shake on his small declaration, Jane holding my hand tight to be less obvious.

"Is there- is there any way you could retrieve that information?? The elemental would not like to have his identity exposed." it felt weird to talk in third person when I myself was the hero in the video that was recorded by them.

"What eve— do you know how crazy it is to be being able to report the person behind all his super hero stuff? We're going to be rewarded fellas! A few thousand bucks to each one of us!" The boys cheered, which only had me scowl at their intentions.

Risking the lives of the one who saved them all and their own princess...for a few thousand bucks.

It's too late.

The information cannot be retrieved back.

Jane looks at me with a knowing look, but I can't help but feel like a failure.

I turn around and swirl my fingers in front of me. I erase the memories from their minds of this moment, of this conversation and we get going.

Once we reach the car, a tear drop cascades down my face.

"Ron?? Hey, darling...it's okay. It's alright..."

"N-no Jane. I promised your f-father, the King that your identity will be safe... I—" I'm cut off with a pair of lips on mine. Upon parting, she says,

"I said it's alright. Anyone who goes against the princess, will be punished. Don't you know that?" she jokes, but I can't laugh of chuckle or even smile at that. Tears continue to rain down my cheeks which are disposed off by the Princess herself.

"Oh honey...I've already told you. I will be safe, always, when I'm with you. Because I know you'll keep me safe no matter what."

I tilt my head to the side and sob.

What about the King? What will he think of me? Certainly, as a failure who couldn't keep his own promise.

"Let's just go home..."

We ended up crashing at my own house to ensure my family was safe.

But turns out, I was late for this too.

The police have discovered my identity, and have enquired what not from my parents.

I hug my worried mother close and comfort her that it's going to be all okay. Let it be, if I have to come out of my shell and face the world, so be it.

My father was just dancing on the line separating disappointment and anger, though he decided to show neither of them. I could understand their feelings and swirls of emotions, very clearly, but to be honest...there was no mistake done from my side.

I had to do my job as the elemental, it was just that the timing wasn't good.

And I should've looked around or sensed anyone around us before I changed forms like a responsible mate.

What a disappointing day today...

"Let's just sleep for the night." My mother announces and I couldn't agree more. The silence was a close call to bursts of anger from my father, which should be avoided considering the princess is here.

And there it goes again. I shouldn't be too conscious for having Jane by my side. Every family has some feuds developed and solved, but I still don't want to create a bad image of my family on her mind.

"Come on. I'll make you something..."

Nice joke, Ron.

I internally groan when I magically remembered I couldn't cook to save my life. But as I said, I could try a sandwich to save lives.

"I can only make a sandwich—"

"It's alright. I'll make us some pasta."

Oh. But-

"No buts. I'm making pasta for the two of us and that's it. Don't you dare go against the Princess's orders." I raise my brows and my hands simultaneously, giving up on making the dinner for us.

"I know you can't cook, Ron. It's obvious." she took the pot from my hand which was apparently my dish for making the sandwich. My cheeks burn red when I realised they don't use a freaking pot to make sandwiches.

Great going, Ronnie.

Pat your head for that...hard.

I awkwardly sit on the counter and help Jane when needed, not wanting to annoy her by putting my head too much into the task of hers for tonight.

"What's wrong?" she said whilst professionally chopping the vegetables I don't know the names of.

"Nothing. Just...thinking."

"About what?" her sudden British accent takes me aback and we giggle.

"Things, honey. You don't need to worry about that. I'm fine, and I wasn't thinking of today." I assure her.

Yeah. I wasn't thinking of today specifically.

I was creating stupid imagines in my head when the King finally calls me to the palace, most probably tomorrow to end my life.

My last meal was already planned.

It would be a nice, greasy, cheesy bucket of fries and the sauciest hotdog ever made in history.

Shame on myself for drooling like that.
