Fields and Sunshine

I exclaim out of excitement as she chases me down the field, the scent of lavender meeting my nose in a rendezvous of serenity and peace. As I run with my short, stubby legs, I notice a shadow loom from behind me. Adrenaline rushes through my blood as I pick up my speed, giggling as I do so. Eventually, I feel myself being picked up as the wind blows through my hair. I close my eyes and spread my arms wide, imagining that I am flying.

She ends up tripping on a pebble and we fall softly to the warm ground. The sun kisses my skin gently, as if it’s giving me a big, warm hug. I laugh and strain my neck to look up in Renée’s eyes.

Slowly, I start to reminisce all the times I’ve spent with this woman, but I can’t seem to put my finger on who she is exactly, and what relationship I have with her. She’s old enough to be about mum’s age. Tears of frustration slip out of my eyes and Anton wipes them off with his thumbs.
