Spirits and Visions

“I was going to tell you, but you and Anton were gone as soon as the bell rang. I could have just texted you, but we don’t have phones any more, remember? Anyway, we all agreed to meet back in school at six. I said I’d come get you.”

The roof of Beatrice’s convertible is down and I close my eyes as the soft breeze of the wind blows through my hair. I look over at Anton, he still looks flushed, his face red from Beatrice calling us out. I can still smell his scent lingering on my skin, refusing to let go.

“So what did Myra say? About Renée.” I ask Beatrice as the car comes to a halt at a stop sign.

“I don’t know, she wanted to wait until we were all together to tell us what she’s found out about Renée.”
