CHAPTER 23

Sparks of light flared and the sound of metal meeting metal filled the air. Ikedi had raised his sword horizontally, blocking Ada’s blow.

Ada clenched her teeth, her hands shook as the vibration traveled from the sword to her body. From the corner of her eyes, she saw the ring formed by the little crowd, each of them wearing a bulging eyes that almost shoot out from their skull. Nobody knew why she had attacked him, and nobody tried to stop her. She could also see the delight in the face of Nneka and her army, they had never seen her with a sword before.

Ikedi tried to push her but Ada threw another offensive blow, hoping to go for his face. He deflected it and jumped backward. She went for his stomach this time, swinging the sword with powerful grace. Her sword swept through space, Ikedi had jumped away again.
