Zheng Tai bit his upper lip. It shined in a stunning pink color, but I couldn't admit that his fashion taste was on point because his mouth continuously spat hate.
"Nadine Ndongo. How dare you steal my most treasured pawn! That move doesn't exist at chess."
Nadine had a grin and scratched her chin, "The contract said that we shouldn't kill ourselves by our own hands while our Queen was still alive. I won't be the one killing you. So I don't see what's the problem here."
"You brainwashed my employees against me. One the best!"
She clicked her tongue against her palate, "The so-called 'pawn' is an adult. And just between the two of us...A kindergarten child would be able to choose between you and me."
Zheng Tai closed his fist on his throne's armrests. The king was losing it, "Why though? I'm not the one mastering the art of selling stolen paintings."
"Don't overestimate me. I've only got three years of experience behind me" Nadine Ndongo pointed her finger at him, "This is the best! I finally got my revenge for the humiliation you gave me three years ago."
Wei had his eyes on his previous Boss the whole time. He seemed to be touched by every answer the Boss gave to the White one and was surprised by it. As for me, I couldn't understand. What was behind that look?
I don't know how he knew I watched him. He said, "She…she's advocating for me? Even if I brought them here?"
"I don't understand this woman. But she has a knack for helping people in need. Who knows what would happen to you if your ex-White Boss learned your new defeat."
Wei gulped.
Hard to think he was the same guy swearing endless loyalty to his master.
Meanwhile, at the heads of the packs, the two chiefs snapped their fingers and clapped their hands, beginning the battle.
Boss asked for my attention. I turned around.
She then pointed her chin toward the spot behind me, "Fight the new Queen."
Another fight, huh? Just because of this stupid human chess rule. But at least, I could procrastinate on the biggest kill: Zheng Tai's murder.
His threats surrounded my mind.
'If you touch at one of my strands of hair, I can't guarantee what'll happen to your mother.'
This was scary, yes, but he was a douchebag around Boss and Wei. And, I didn't want to go back to the white room ever again.
I turned again and grabbed my curls in frustration, "Why did I put myself in this shitty situation?"
My opponent didn't make herself wait. It was the girl clothed in turquoise that ran toward me. Between the tearing and fighting bodies, she dashed. But I wasn't the one she looked at with fire in her eyes. It was…Wei.
"Liar!"
Wei jumped.
"Tai gave us everything. You swore to protect him with your blood. By daring to break our promise you are...a liar!" She contracted her leg muscles and lept toward us.
I didn't know where her rage will blow, but her leg was going to blast something with a kick.
Of course, the no-reflex clown didn't move. But I couldn't do anything either. It was easier said than done though. I didn't even see her leg.
A buzzing sound shouted in our ears. The young girl got down, grabbing her flank while screaming in pain. Behind her, Jieung-yong raised a smoking taser gun in his hand.
When she gesticulated on the floor, Jieung-yong smiled. Like someone who just made an experiment. Then he laughed.
That was the first time I heard him laugh.
I shivered
"Shuri?" Wei murmured.
Zheng Tai bit his hair, "Are you destroyers without any mercy? Come to me, cannon, come! You, at least, won't fail at the hands of those fools, won't you! Bring my cannon here!"
Some Tai's entered the sinister tunnel they made themselves.
Their master waited, a smile wore on his lips.
Boss tapped her foot on the ground in impatience.
They weren't talking about a real cannon, weren't they? It wouldn't be a realist.
Newbie mob's naivety. The cannon searching Tais were coming back in the light. They pushed an enormous cannon made of metal. Two people could sit inside the killing machine if they wanted to.
One of our employees aimed at the death symbol.
Shoot Zheng Tai, I thought. Song-ho. You can stop him with a single bullet. Don't play saint and shoot! No one will do it for you.
I was paralyzed. Fuck!
The cannon aimed at the middle of us. It should have been his Queen from the beginning.
One Tai lit a lighter, brought or to the cannon, and…a gunshot resounded. He fell, dead on the spot. A stream of blood flowed on the white floor.
Before I could understand anything, a second one resounded. This time, one of the Firm members, the one aiming at the cannon, fell.
We were all frozen. I stared at every one of us, Jieung-yong, Wei, everyone. But no one had the answer to our unsaid question.
"That's not our weapons." Boss pointed upward with her magnum, "Up here!"
Between the broken underground rocks, a shadow, a third party, ran away from our examinations.
Someone was shooting at us. Not on Tai's, nor toward the Firm. But at the Underground World.
