Do You Think He Is Jealous?

“What’s he doing?” I heard Rebecca ask someone later that afternoon.

“I don’t know. He said he was going to go have lunch with Elizabeth and her boyfriend but when he came home he just sat down like that and hasn’t moved a muscle since.” Taylor answered her.

“Is he okay?”

“I think so. He isn’t dead at least and when I called Elizabeth earlier to find out what happened, she just said that he got a little upset then left their lunch.” Not exactly a lie but there was definitely more to the story.

“Do you think he might be jealous?”

“Jealous of who?”

“Of Elizabeth’s boyfriend. He and Elizabeth are very close and now that she has a boyfriend Jared might start feeling neglected and jealous.”

“He has you so I don’t see why he would be jealous.”

“What if I’m just a placeholder until Elizabeth becomes available again?”

“Do you honestly think that? He is terrifyingly focused and serious so if he chose to be with you then he is serious about your relationship.” Taylor stated. “I don’t know what he is doing or how long he is still going to be like that but I think it’s best to leave him. We can go hangout in my room in the meantime.”

I heard their footsteps leaving the room and going up the stairs so I was left alone again. I just focused on the task at hand; gathering energy. I needed it for what I was planning on doing tomorrow afternoon. I was still conflicted about what to do with Brian and Elly. I never wanted to hurt her but she lied to me and it wasn’t just about something small. I didn’t know what to do with Brian as well. If the information I just received was correct then his life would be spared.

“Jared, you still busy doing whatever you’re doing?” I heard Ethan ask me. I couldn’t tell what the time was but it felt like it was only half an hour later.

“Anyway, I can finally do the Disparaître spell.” That I had to see. I slowly began ending the process of gathering and storing energy for tomorrow then opened my eyes and saw him standing against the bookcase.

“You did?” I was skeptical so I needed to see his progress myself. I was, after all, his teacher.

“Yep, just watch.” He pushed himself away from the bookcase then closed his eyes and concentrated. “Disparaître.” He chanted before his body began disappearing. It was slow but at least it was progress. Now I just needed to test how well he managed to master the spell.

“Transport: Book.” I commanded then sent the book flying towards Ethan’s head.

“Ouch.” He complained once the book hit him. The spell immediately ended and he became visible again. “What was that for?”

“If you really mastered the spell then that book would not have hit you.” I explained.

“But I became invisible.”

“The whole purpose of that spell is to disappear. That means not only can no one see you but no one will be able to sense you, feel you or touch you. You will literally be a ghost in that spot.”

“Can’t you just be happy that I became invisible?”

“If you settle for mediocre then you’ll never become a great magician.” I replied as I stood up. “Until you master that spell, we can’t continue.”

“But…”

“No buts.” I quickly cut him off then made my way up the stairs. I checked the time and saw that it was just after 8 so I clearly spent more than enough time gathering energy. I went straight to my sister’s room that Taylor was using. I didn’t think Rebecca would still be here but I hoped she would.

“Taylor, you still up?” I asked her as I knocked on her door. I heard footsteps rushing towards the door before it flung open. A smile instantly appeared on my face as I saw Rebecca standing in the doorway with a rather agitated scowl on her face.

“Do you know how long I’ve been waiting for you?” She quickly asked me.

“I’ll gladly make it up to you.” I seductively replied but she didn’t look like she was buying any of it.

“You think you can sweet talk your way out of this one?”

“Talking is not one of the things I want our mouths doing right now.” A smile quickly appeared on her lips before she erased it but her blushing cheeks clearly broke the stubborn character she was trying to portray.

“Screw you.”

“How I’d love you to.” I replied as I stepped closer to her and brought her body right up against mine.

“If you guys are going to flirt, can you at least do it somewhere I can’t hear or see it?” Taylor interrupted us. That brought a smile to our faces before I gave her a quick kiss.

“Sorry Taylor. I’ll leave you girls alone.” I told her as I released Rebecca.

“I have to go anyway, it’s getting late.” Rebecca stated.

“Okay, see you tomorrow then.” Taylor greeted her.

“See you tomorrow.” Rebecca closed the door behind her then immediately turned to me.

“Do you have to go?” I asked her as I grabbed her hands and gently pulled her closer.

“Yeah, it’s late and I still have school tomorrow.”

“I forgot you still have school.”

“Not all of us can disappear for years and not go to school but somehow still live a carefree life like you.”

“I had an education, just not anything formal like yours.”

“Yeah well I unfortunately have to suffer through it. Maybe I’ll come around tomorrow afternoon.”

“I already have plans for tomorrow so I won’t be at home.”

“Does this have anything to do with whatever you were doing downstairs?” She questioned me as she raised an eyebrow. “Which leads to another question, what were you doing that was more important than spending time with your girlfriend?”

“So you’re my girlfriend now?”

“Well I don’t plan on being in a relationship with anyone else.”

“Neither do I.” I replied then gave her a kiss which led to us making out for a couple of minutes.

“So do you still want to do whatever you’re doing tomorrow or are we going to spend time together?” She asked me.

“As much as I want to spend time with you, I can’t cancel tomorrow but how about we spend the weekend together? I’ll leave my whole weekend open just for you.”

“Fine. What are you going to be doing tomorrow that’s more important me?”

“Nothing is more important than you.” I gave her a quick kiss but she was adamant about getting an answer out of me before she left. “I just have a job to do tomorrow.”

“For Taylor’s mom?”

“No. This is something I’m doing on the side I guess.”

“Is this ‘something’ dangerous?”

“Not really.”

“Then why did you need to prepare so much for it downstairs?” Okay, she got me there. She was smart so I wasn’t surprised that she put two and two together.

“That’s just a precaution. I will be safe and I will be preparing for whatever you want to do this weekend. Name it and we will be doing it.” I hoped that eased her nerves.

“I’ll hold you to that. Be safe tomorrow.”

“I will.” She gave me a quick kiss then released me before making her way to the staircase. “Wait, how

are you getting home?”

“I ordered me a cab already.”

“I can take you home myself, make sure you get home safely.” I told her as I followed her down the stairs.

“You don’t get to play the hero after neglecting me for 4 hours today. I can look after myself.” She was definitely stubborn.

“Are you sure you’ll be okay?” I asked her as she stopped by the door.

“Yes so don’t worry about me. I will see you on Saturday.” She opened the door then walked down the pathway to a cab waiting outside. I waited until the car drove away before closing the door and heading back upstairs to Taylor’s room.

“Taylor, you got a minute?” I asked before I opened her door.

“Come in.” She permitted me. I went into the room and found her lying on the bed reading through a magazine. “Is Rebecca gone?”

“Yes.”

“What’s up then?”

“I’m going to be killing some people tomorrow so when you come here after school, I need you to lock the doors and don’t allow anyone in the house until I get back. It doesn’t matter who they are, no one enters this house tomorrow okay?”

“Not even Elizabeth?”

“Especially not Elizabeth.”

“Did something happen?”

“Nothing happened. I just finally saw the truth.”

“Are you okay?”

“I’m okay. You just need to be careful tomorrow.”

“You too.”
