The week dragged on, Kaleen couldn’t wait till she saw Sandman again. She hated going to work and had booked Saturday off as soon as he’d asked her out. She didn’t like disappointing Mark, but she’d seen him at college and he’d drove him home a few times they kissed passionately, this seemed to confuse her more was she doing the right thing by seeing Sandman again. After furious arguments with her head, and her feelings she’d decided yes it was. She wanted to see him again he was mysterious and he always listened to what she had to say, she loved his sandy blond hair that shimmered in the sunlight, his bright blue eyes that glowed under the street lights. It felt as if they light the room up when he walked in. He was always smiling, so warm, so loving.
Saturday had come at last, but not quick enough for Kaleen. A honk of a horn echoed, Kaleen looked out of the window there was Sandman on his bike, she rushed out of the house. She was just about to climb on to the bike.
Too late.
‘Where are you going? And who’s this?’
‘Shit!’
‘Well!’ Adriana snapped.
‘This is Justin.’
‘Nice to meet you.’ She grunted in disgust. ‘Is this yours?’
‘Yes.’
‘Just be careful we don’t want any accidents do we!’
‘I will I’m very careful I promise.’
‘Good.’ She said in approval.
Kaleen leaped on the back of the bike gripping onto Sandman’s shirt he hadn’t got his leathers on today, just a baggy tee-shirt under his open buttoned shirt, and a pair of three quarter pants, a pair of bulky Adidas trainers. Which didn’t lie well with Adriana.
‘Oh, what shall I tell Mark if he comes round?’
Kaleen’s mouth dropped.
‘How embarrassing!, how could she what a bitch!.’
‘He won’t okay!’ Kaleen sapped angrily.
Sandman rode off before world war three started between Kaleen and Adriana. Even more disapproval from her mouth she would’ve snapped and told her exactly where to shove it.
He parked up his bike on the pavement on front of the beech they leaped off the bike; he took her hand as they walked down the ramp, losing it at the bottom. The slipped off their trainers and walked across the hot sand hand in hand.
There were people already on the beech sunbaking on this hot summer’s day. It felt like it was getting close to thirty degrees, the sun beaming down on the sea it sparkled a silvery blue colour.
‘I love the beech don’t you?’
‘I aint called Sandman for nothing you know. I used to be the champion sandcastle builder by the time I was five.’
‘Wow.’ She replied not sure she should believe him or not.
They continued to walk across the hot, soft sand passing those who lay on the beach.
‘Aren’t we goanna sit down somewhere?’
‘Not yet.’
Everyone had faded into the distance.
‘Duck your head.’ He said as the approached the peer, they ducked quickly she’d never been this far up the beech her and Candice were never allowed to go this far up the beech even when they were nearly twelve.
They came to the opposite side of the peer. Kaleen stood there dumb stuck sand everywhere miles of it looked so pretty why Adriana didn’t let her and Candice over here was more confusing it looked like a desert Adriana said they’d get lost over there, how the hell were they supposed to get lost in a pile of sand?! They used to like burring themselves in the sand up to their necks, pretending they were dead, until Adriana walked past then they’d shout Boo! Scaring her half to death.
Kaleen laughed out, not meaning for it to be so loud.
Sandman looked at her, surprised. ‘What was all that about?!’
‘I was just thinking.’
‘What about?’ He asked curiously.
‘When me and Candice were kids and we used to go to the beach and played jokes on the bitch, burring ourselves in sand up to our necks and pretending that we were dead then scaring her half to death.’
Sandman laughed. ‘You’re funny. I like that.’
‘She daint find it funny, she had her usual spack, Dad told her to calm down. ‘Kids will be kids’ he used to say. We loved that trick Dad even found it funny, she got a bit pissed with it then we never came to the beech again.’
‘The heartless bitch. The beech is a great place.’
‘I know. And this place.’
‘You like it?’
‘It’s the bollocks! It’sso beautiful and peaceful.’
‘This place is ours no-one else knows, no-one else ever comes over here.’ He said. ‘Our secret, yours and mine.’ He added. Turning facing her.‘Shh.’ He said placing his finger on her lips. ‘Never tell anyone, our secret.’
She nodded. He took his finger off her lips replacing it with his lips kissing her.
He pulled away reluctantly. ‘Shall I show you my best work yet!’
‘Yeah sure. Where is it?’
He laughed.
She stood there with a frowned expression upon her face. It wasn’t meant to be funny, it was a perfectly good question she thought.
‘No silly, I’ll build one then you can judge how good it is for yourself. You can sit down, if I need any help I’ll ask.’ He said laughing, then smiling.
She returned his smile, sitting on the soft warm sand.
Sandman started to form the sculpture. ‘You can help me pat the sand down to make it secure if you like.’
‘Sure.’
Kaleen pulled herself up off the sand and strode over to where Sandman was perfecting his sand sculpture, the base of the sculpture was soon finished her arms ached and her legs felt like jelly she found it hard to believe how much hard work went into sand sculpting, and yet he never complained once.
She started to walk over to him, her legs gave way, and he caught her in his arms. ‘How did you manage that?’
‘Must’ve been a hole or summert.’
They looked into each other’s eyes, hoping that he’d kiss her, but he didn’t.
‘You better sit down before you fall down!’ he said laughing.
She didn’t laugh, she sat on the sand gracefully making sure she didn’t fall onto it so that he’d have something else to laugh about.
Sandman finally finished his sculpture. ‘Done.’
Kaleen pulled herself up, walked over the lumpy sand to him. She looked at the sculpture it looked almost like an Egyptian tomb. ‘Wow.’
‘Do you like it, its Nefertiti’stomb.’
‘It’s great, it’s so life like.’ She answered. Astounded by the perfect detailing his words were right he really could do the best sand sculptures.
He bent down next to the sand and wrote Sandman, his signature in the sand. He pulled himself up. Smiled.‘Not bad if I do say so myself.’
‘You’re such a big head.’ Kaleen said, laughing.
He shoved her playfully, almost knocking her over.
‘Hey!’ She said shoving him back.
‘Why you!’
‘Catch me if you can!’ she said starting to run away from him.
He ran after her soon catching up with her. She was no contest for him was there nothing he couldn’t do? He grabbed her, she fell onto the soft sand, near the seas edge, he landed on top of her. They stared into each other’s eyes, he leaned forward placing his lips on hers, she returned his kiss passionately. The water splashed around them.
He moved away, smiled, moving her hair gently off her face. ‘I like you I mean I really like you.’
‘I like you too.’
‘I think I’m in love with you.’
Kaleen lay there dumb struck unable to speak. Love! Did she love him too or did she just like him? Why did he have to confuse things more for her.
‘I’ve never felt this way for anyone before, I feel so comfortable when I’m around you.’
‘Me too.’
He leaned forward placing his lips on hers kissing her. He pulled away, pulling himself off her. ‘Come on we better go before your step mom has a spack at me for keeping you out late.’ He said placing his hand out.
She grabbed it, he pulled her up gently off the sand. They strode of the beech hand in hand. How did she really feel she loved Mark, but did she love Sandman too?
He knelt down writing in the sand Sandman and Kaleen forever.
‘How cute.’ She thought as they walked away they stopped at the tip of the sculpture, and picked up their shoes, walked away as the sea washed away the writing in the sand.
They walked across the sand and up the ramp, stopping at the pavement and slipping on their trainers. It had been a great day, Kaleen didn’t want it to end, but it had to end sometime it must’ve been nearly ten, the sun was lowering shining across the sea. It looked so beautiful like a silvery lake.
00
‘We’ll have to bring our bathers next time.’ Sandman said, and then smiled as he leaped onto his bike, and revved it up. He held his hand out.
Kaleen took it. ‘Yeah.’
He pulled her up onto the bike ‘We’ll have to do this again sometime.’ He said.
‘That’ll be nice.’ She answered lowering herself onto the seat.
He pulled off the pavement and rode off. It was dark as they stopped for a bite to eat. They had started back and on the main road. Sandman looked in his mirror noticing a bright light beaming into it he looked again tailing him was a car headlights brighter as he turned the corner the car was still following them.
‘Hold on.’
Kaleen grabbed tighter onto his waist, her face squashed onto the back of his shirt which still flapped out in the wind as he sped down the street and round the next corner. He revved up another gear wheel spinning in the air, Kaleen grabbed tighter as she swung back. The bike dropped to the road with a thud. They zoomed down the road, sandman’s shirt and t-shirt still flapping in the wind, Kaleen’s hair flapping behind her. Sandman checked his mirror from the corner of his eye, checking to see if they were still being tailed. Kaleen was breathless unable to talk as the wind caught her breath every time she tried.
Sandman finally stopped outside Kaleen’s skidding halfway across the road. She let go of his shirt her hands stiff poised in the gripped position. She leaped off the bike, stretched her fingers in and out a few times to get the circulation back into them.
‘What was all that about you scared me shitless.’ She said trying to catch her breath.
‘Sorry, though some one was following us.’
Her next words came out in spurts of shot sentences. ‘Are-you-being-serious?’
She asked taking short breaths after every word. Finally realising her hands and knees were shaking, she’d never known anyone to ride a bike like that before it had scared her half to death.
‘Yeah, they must’ve got bored when we turned the last corner.’ He said with a serious frown on his face. He looked at Kaleen who was still shaking. ‘Come here.’
She walked slowly over to him. He wrapped his arms round her, trying to comfort her. ‘Are you okay?’
‘Now, yeah. You scared me half to death.’
‘I’m sorry I honestly thought someone was tailing me they were right up my ass!’
Kaleen looked up, and stared into his sorry-full florescent blue eyes. ‘That’s okay.’
He leaned forward placing his lips on hers kissing her, she returned his kiss. He moved away, dropping his arms from round her. ‘I’ll see you soon, I’ll call in the pizza palace to see you okay.’
‘Okay.’ She said still shaking.
‘Are you sure you’re goanna be okay?!’ he asked sympathetically.
‘Yeah. Just say I fell in the sea!’ She replied sarcastically.
He laughed, smiled, getting on his bike. ‘See you soon.’
‘Yeah see ya.’ She replied as he rode off.
Kaleen closed the door behind her to get greeted with accusation from Adriana. ‘What time do you call this?’
‘Your bedtime!’ Kaleen replied sarcastically.
‘Don’t use your lip with me young lady.’ Adriana said, her eyes like daggers.
‘And where have you been till this hour? And coming back in that state!’
‘I fell in a puddle!’
‘Must’ve been a big puddle for you to look like a drowned rat.’
‘It was!’ Kaleen replied sarcastically adding. ‘Shame I daint drown aye! Then you’d never have to see me again!’ Kaleen snapped.
‘Now look here young lady.’ Adriana said, stopping choosing her words carefully.
‘Go up to your room and get changed.’
‘Don’t freak I am! Anything that stops this conversation suits me fine.’ Kaleen replied storming up the stairs slamming the bathroom door behind her washing her hair wrapping a towel round her hair then going into her room and slipping into a pair of pyjamas and drying her hair , banging some tunes on. Turned up with the speaker pumping through the ceiling.
A screech echoed up the stairs. ‘Turn that crap down!’
Kaleen ignored it she pumped up the sound on her stereo as she continued to dry her hair.
A knock to her door dazzled her, jumping a mile she turned round. ‘Shit, Candice you scared me I thought you were the bitch.’
‘Be serious since when did she ever knock, she’d walk straight in.’
‘Yeah course she would.’
‘Can I come in?’
‘Yeah sure you can. You know you can you aint got to ask.’ Kaleen said turning the volume down on the stereo, switching the hair dryer off. Placing it on the dresser.
Candice went into the brightly coloured room, posters plastered on every wall hiding the ridiculous colours that Adriana had chosen. If she’d chosen them they’d be a dark puce, purple or black but she wasn’t allowed to do that instead she was stuck with bright blue and bright pink under the border line which was bright yellow none of it went together and looked stupid. It all clashed Adriana must have had an impediment or was colour blind when she brought the awful colours pronounced on her wall.
‘Take a pew.’
‘Cheers.’
Candice sat on the bed.
‘Relax lye down, anything just stop looking so rigid.’
Candice lay down and relaxed a little.
‘That’s better, now what did you want to talk to me about?’
Candice was almost bursting trying to get the words out without getting them mixed up. ‘So how was it? What was he like?’
‘It was great, he was great.’
‘Where did he take you?’
‘Secret.’
‘You can tell me I won’t tell anyone.’
‘Promise.’
‘Promise.’
They done there special sister hand shake ending with their fingers crossed.
‘He took me to the beach.’
‘The beech!’ Candice said un-impressed it weren’t much of a secret.
‘Yeah, we went to the sand dunes the place we were never a loud to go as kids.’
‘Oh yeah too scared that if we went over there we’d never come back. So what was it like?’
‘It was beautiful like desert sand for miles no-one there but us. He built a great big sand sculpture you should’ve seen it sis it was the bomb, then we kissed.’
‘Is that why you needed to wash your hair!’ Candice said sarcastically.
‘Yeah, we lay by the seas edge and kissed, and the waves gushed over us.’
‘How romantic.’
‘I wouldn’t go that far.’
‘Are you going to see him again?’
‘He’s going to see me in the pizza palace, but I don’t know when.’
‘There’s only one big question… what about Mark?’
Kaleen hadn’t thought about Mark all day she was having too much fun with Sandman to even think about him. ‘I don’t know.’
‘Do you love him?’
‘Yes, but I think I love Sandman too.’
‘You’ll have to decide soon you can’t have your cake and eat it.’
‘I know.’
‘Well I better go before mom has a spack about me being in here.’ Candice said pulling herself up off the bed.
‘Okay night.’
‘Night.’ Candice replied walking out of the room.
Kaleen turned the stereo up, she lay down staring at the ceiling wondering what to do she liked the both of them maybe loved both of them too.
She hardly slept tossing and turning thinking about Mark and Sandman who she should choose. She couldn’t choose between either she wanted them both, was that such a horrible thought, nothing like this had ever happened to her before she felt good, she felt wanted, and loved for the first time in her life since she was ten, since Adriana had come into hers and her dad’s life. Now two men loved her and she loved them both too so how could she decide? She couldn’t she closed her eyes slowly gradually falling asleep.
College didn’t start as Kaleen had hoped it would, Kaleen was still half asleep after only having four hours sleep. She yawned most of the morning falling asleep on the bench during lunch. Kaleen opened her eyes as someone said. ‘Time to go back in.’
Kaleen rubbed her eyes not even knowing who’d spoken to her, she looked at her watch ‘12:55’. ‘Shit.’ She shouted as she leaped to her feet and ran into college.
She casually walked over to the stairs, after catching her breath, she strode up the first few stairs a shadow dawned over her eyes followed one another from the dark martins, combat trousers too the oversized baggy tee-shirt with a motif of a dragon printed on the front of it. She stood there staring at the male in front of her with dark hair, and dark eyes staring back at her. ‘Mark!’
He didn’t answer, just stood there staring at her, straight through her.
‘What’s up Mark?’ She asked curiously, he’d never looked at her in that was before and it was starting to freak her out.
He finally answered. ‘Can we talk?’
‘Not now I’m late, later okay.’ She answered trying to walk past him. ‘Move out the way, I’m late!’ She snapped.
People’s heads began to turn wondering what was going on.
‘No! I want to talk. Now! It’s important.’ He shouted.
‘Okay what is it?’ Kaleen sighed knowing he meant it and that it had got to be serious.
He looked at her, expressionless. ‘I know where you were Saturday.’
‘Aye!’
‘You weren’t out with your sister were you?!’ He said abruptly.
‘Who told you that?’
‘Your step mom!’
‘The bitch, she had no right.’ Kaleen shouted.
Everyone in the college hall stood there staring at them bickering at one another.
‘How could she, the cow.’ Kaleen muttered under her breath.
‘It doesn’t matter, if you wanted to see someone else you should’ve told me.’ He snapped. Arms folded.
She knew he meant business, he was mad really mad and he wasn’t goanna budge an inch until he was finished what he was saying.
‘I thought we had something special and we trusted each other.’
‘We do.’
‘So why didn’t you tell me?’
‘I was going to.’
‘When, this time next year?!’ He snapped sarcastically. ‘I wish you’d be honest with me Kay.’
‘You want honesty, alright I’ll give you honesty. I don’t know what I want, I like both of you.’
‘Sorry Kay I can’t handle this shit. I’ll catch ya later.’ He said storming off.
‘MARK!’ she shouted.
He chose to ignore her
‘MARK!’ she shouted once more, but it was too late he’d gone.
‘Kay are you okay?’ a girl asked.
Kaleen looked up the stairs where Candice stood. ‘Hi I didn’t see you there.’
Candice stood in front of Kaleen. ‘What happened?’
‘That bitch only went and told Mark I was seeing someone else as well as him.’
‘I’m sorry I didn’t know. I was out all day at Cathy’s I didn’t even know that Mark had been round.’
‘That’s cool, that bitch thinks I don’t care, she’s always ruining our lives ever since we were kids.’
‘Look I’ll talk to Mark for you he might listen to me.’
‘Thanks.’
‘No probs, see you later.’
‘Laterz.’ Kaleen replied walking up the stairs leaving Candice.
It was Tuesday night and Kaleen was met outside work by Sandman, to her surprise he looked cheerful and surprised to see her, but not half as much as she was to see him. ‘Hi.’
‘Alright babe.’ He replied, kissing her on the cheek. Grabbing her hand. ‘Come on.’ He said enthusiastically.
‘Where are we going?’
‘You’ll see.’
They walked out of the car park into the town centre; it felt as if they’d been walking forever when they finally reached the beach.
‘What are we doing here?’ Kaleen asked as they walked across the sand hand in hand.
‘You said you wanted to go swimming didn’t you?’
‘Yeah.’
‘Come on the.’
She hesitated.
‘Come on there’s no one around.’
‘But I aint got no bathers.’
‘Neither have I!’ He said, smiling. ‘Come on, it’ll be fun.’
She looked up at him, he smiled looking at her as if to say ‘Where’s your sense of adventure?’
‘Yeah okay.’
‘Come on then, last one in is a sour trout!’ He said getting a head start, running across the sand.
‘Hey! That’s not fair.’ She shouted trying to catch up with him.
Their clothes flew off on to the sand, the plunged into the sea.
‘Hey you cheated!’ Kaleen said splashing him.
‘Should learn to run a little faster!’ he replied splashing her.
‘You want a fight I’ll give you a fight!’ She replied, splashing him once again.
He smiled, swooping up more water it gushed over her.
She sprayed him with more water, the water fight went on for several minutes they got closer and closer every splash he finally wrapped his arms round her shoulders moving forward placing his lips on hers kissing her, she wrapped her arms round him returning his kiss passionately .
He pulled away. ‘Come on we’d better get back before we catch our death, it’s getting cold out here.’ He said dropping his arms from round her.
‘He’s right it is getting a lot colder, the sun’s going down.’ She thought as she loosed him.
They swam back to shore lifting themselves up out of the sea, and walked over to their clothes and got dressed.
He took her hand as they walked back over the sand, they sat on the wall he wrapped his arms round, she placed her head on his chest they sat there watching the sun going down.
‘Aint this great?’
‘Yeah I wish we could do this all of the time.’ She replied.
‘We could.’
‘Aye!’ Kaleen said, confused.
‘We could, I mean what’s stopping us we could live together somewhere hotter than this and go down the beech every day.’
‘What are you trying to say?’
‘Runaway with me let’s get out of here, leave everything behind and start again.’
‘I-I-I-I don’t know.’ Kaleen spluttered out. Not quite knowing how to take his proposal.
‘You said you’re treated like a kid, but with me you could do what you wanted with me there, there’d be no bitch to keep telling you what to do hounding you all of the time, and it would be just me and you against the world.’
It seemed a good idea especially the way he explained it, it sounded good, it sounded great but an air of doubt circled in her mind. She’d miss Candice and her friends, she’d especially miss Mark, but it sounded so fantastic.
‘I-I don’t know, I’ll think about it’
‘Don’t take too long.’
The moon rose above the sun, a silver shimmer sparkled across the sea.
‘Come on I better get you back or you’ll be grounded!’ he said sarcastically, laughing.
She didn’t laugh back, it wasn’t funny. ‘I’m nineteen not thirteen.’ She thought as she slipped him a smile.
He slipped his arm back from round her taking her hand. Pulling them both up.
‘Wouldn’t it be great to wake up to this every morning, to see it out of the window and only to be a few steps away from the beach. Our own beech house wouldn’t it be great, just to watch the sunset in the morning and to see the moon rise at night.’ He said enthusiastically.
‘Yeah.’ She replied as he leaned forward placing his lips on hers kissing her.
He moved away. ‘Come on I’ll get you back, give you time to think about it.’ He said leading her off the beach.
They walked down towards the town the midnight snack bar was open, they went in for a quick drink and a bite to eat and then they were on their way again. The town was so dark and eerie, but she knew that she was safe with Sandman by her side.
His hair glistened under the street lamps his bright blue eyes glowed under there florescent light, even the shadows didn’t scare her tonight nothing scared her whilst she was in the company of Sandman she felt safe and warm so loved like she never had before.
They stood outside the house, he grabbed her pulling her towards him, taking her by surprise. He pressed his lips on hers kissing her passionately.
He pulled away. ‘Well I’ll see you soon, don’t forget what I said.’
‘I won’t.’ She replied as he walked away.
Kaleen had gone to work, she’d been rushed off her feet all night and was glad when it was closing time, she pulled her apron off, shoving it under the counter and said her goodbyes.
She walked out of the shopping mall all the shop lights were going off one by one it was dark and eerie as she walked passed every one of them.
‘Kay!’ A voice echoed.
She jumped, turned. A male with dark hair which bounced as he walked, his eyes looked black in the dark, his shirt blew out in the cold air making it look at least two sizes too big, just like the baggy jeans he wore which looked like they were about to drop around his ankles. She giggled to herself at the sight of it. ‘Gross’. As he slumped towards her in his cats, he came into the light, she felt a little better and at ease when she knew who it was.
‘Mark.’
‘Hi Kay.’ He replied coming to a stop. Trying to catch a breath.
‘You shit me.’
‘Sorry just trying your attention.’
‘Well it worked!’
After catching his breath he finally said. ‘Look I’m sorry about the other day’
‘Me too.’
‘Let me finish.’ He interrupted.
She stood there shocked, listening to what he had to say.
‘Can I walk you home?’
‘Yeah sure.’
They started to walk away from the shopping mall.
‘What’s up Mark?’
‘I’m sorry about the other day. Me and Candice we had a chat.’ He paused rubbed the back of his neck the continued. ‘And, well, she said you were confused and you didn’t know what you wanted, you were all mixed up your emotions were flying everywhere since you met this other guy and he’d swept you off your feet. She said you liked him but you still love me.’
‘That’s what I was trying to tell you.’
He interrupted once again. ‘Anyways, if you want to see him that’s cool with me we can still be friends.’
‘Yeah sure.Friends.’ She replied disappointedly.
‘Cool.’ He said as a beam of light nearly blinded them both. ‘What’s that?’
‘Beats me, is it your mom?’
‘No mom’s at work it aint your boyfriend checking up on you is it!’
‘No he’s got a bike.’
‘Come on let’s make a run for it my cars parked round the corner.
‘Okay.’
He grabbed Kaleen’s hand and the started to run down the street looking back checking to see if they were still being followed, they were a blue car followed them from the mall and down the road keeping at a safe distance behind them. Mark and Kaleen turned the corner. They leaped into Mark’s car grabbing the keys, pulling them out of his pocket then turning the key in the ignition, it spluttered. ‘Shit, come on!’
Kaleen looked in the rear view mirror, a dark blue car was parked up behind them. ‘Shit.’
‘Is it still there?’ mark asked, turning his key once more.
‘Yeah.’
‘Have you got in trouble again Kay?’ he asked as the engine finally started.
‘No!’
He dropped it into gear and pulled away the wheels screeched, the dark blue car pulled off too continuing to tail them.
‘Why are they following us?’
‘I don’t know.’
‘Are you hiding a fugitive?!’ Mark asked, laughing.
‘NO!’
He looked in the rear view mirror a set of headlights shone in it. ‘Right time to lose them.’
He turned the wheel, the car tilled on its side, Kaleen held on to the seat and the door handle, gripping them tightly. The car bounced back onto the road and zoomed round the next corner and through the next few streets.
Mark looked in his rear view mirror the cars lights were still beaming brightly in it. ‘Geese don’t these guys ever give up.’
Mark turned into Heansheild Road turning up Kaleen’s drive the dark blue car zoomed past. ‘Well that got rid of them.’
Kaleen sat there almost paralysed, still griping tightly onto the seat, and door handle, her face pale flushed of its entire colour.
‘Are you alright Kay?’
She nodded.
‘They’ve gone now.’
Kaleen released her hands slowly off the seat, and door handle realising that she’d been holding her breath since the car was only on two wheels, and that she was shaking all over.
‘What was all that about?’
‘I don’t know.’ She replied in a shaky, tearful voice.
‘They sure looked vexed.’ Mark said looking at Kaleen. ‘Are you sure that you’re alright?’
‘I’ll be fine in a minute or two.’
He placed his hands on top of hers rubbing them to get back their circulation, her whole body seemed to be shaking her face looked like she’d just saw a ghost. He wrapped his arms round her, rubbing her arms with his hands trying to calm her down.
He moved away. ‘Are you okay?’
She nodded. ‘I better go in its getting late.’
‘Shall I go in with you?’
‘No, I’ll be fine.’
‘Are you sure? After what’s just happened.’
‘Yeah I’ll be fine. Thanks anyway.’
He leaned forward placing his lips on hers kissing her. She returned his kiss.
He moved away. ‘Now are you okay?’
‘Yeah, I’ll be fine.’ She replied opening the car door.
‘I’ll see you at college Monday then.’
‘Yeah.’ She replied getting out of the car. ‘Laterz.’
‘Laterz.’
Kaleen closed the passenger door behind her they waved goodbye as he drove off.
‘What just happened? Why were they following us? Was it me they wanted? And why did Mark kiss me when he said that we were just friends? Was it the spear of the moment thing?’ she thought as she switched the light off.
