11.- The Baby

-What do you mean, you understand? What do you understand? - asked Gina

-My dream I had when I got sick Annah knows about the existence of these people as Alice feared and she already chose what she will do- I said with my voice cracking -But I also chose what I will do and I am going to save her and I will call you later, sis-

-Yes, keep track of what's going on, yes? You are not alone- she said trying to comfort me.

-Thank you Gi- I said hanging up while I went back to my room in my head that dream was still happening I understood that that man was a superior being of Alice and Beck's race I saw Annah, but the unknown was still who was the other girl in the dream, and why Annah said she could save her? I didn't understand it and I was afraid to understand it late between thoughts I arrived back to my room when I entered I saw Mark and Elian however Mark was looking too sad.

-I'm sorry Briana brought him here because he can't be in the girls' rooms- said Elian.

-But what's wrong with him? Is he all right? - I asked

-My mom just had a baby- said Mark -I was very happy because after 18 years she finally had a brother, but during the childbirth something got complicated and the baby is hospitalized- he said starting to cry.

-And is your mother well? - asked Elian

-Yes she is fine but I don't know why I feel this way, she has only a couple of hours in the world and she is already suffering, sorry for coming to bother you, but when I went to look for Annah they threw me out- he said sadly.

-Don't worry we are your friends too- said Elian.

-You are right, friends support each other at times like this, stay here and sleep for a while- I said while I pointed to my bed, he nodded and lay down as soon as he was settled he fell asleep, although it was logical after a moment like this I wasn't surprised I sat down in my chair and Elian sat next to me.

-Poor thing, don't you think I'd like to tell him I know how he feels, but I'd be lying, I'm the youngest so I don't know anything about that- he said worriedly.

-If something happened to Gina, I think I would be just like him- I said, looking at Mark.

-Hey, what are you going to do with the box that arrived? - said Elian

-Throw it away, what else? - I said unimportantly

-Good thing you don't believe whoever sent it-

-Why would I do that? -

-Exactly- he said to start putting his things away and then go to sleep, I went to the small sofa in our room and without realizing it I fell asleep there.

There I began to see many things as if it were a movie my life was passing in front of me and suddenly all those memories stopped and I saw a baby in the middle of the room where she was I ran to her and picked her up, but she did not make any sound I put my ear to her nose and I could not hear if she was breathing or not then I heard a familiar voice

-Well you could say it's the cycle of life, some live and some die- he said looking away from us, it was the same person from the dream years before.

-You can't, she is a baby, she has a life ahead of her- I said desperately and for the first time I saw his face, he saw me and caressed the baby's cheek.

-That decision is no longer up to you and me, it's her choice, but the way I see it, she's already made it- he paused, but I wondered, She? -I'm glad you understood a little of what I told you some time ago, don't you think? - he said.

-But I don't quite get... it - that's when I understood he was referring to Annah - You looked for Annah, didn't you? Just like Alice and Beck did with me-

-Yes, i did- he said, turning his eyes to avoid looking at me-I asked them to tell you everything, but I withhold information from them to see what you would do and I'm quite satisfied with the result- he said with a certain mocking tone -But it was out of my calculations for you to tell everything to your sister- he said, changing his tone.

-What does that mean? - I said starting to get angry because he had mentioned Gina.

-Nothing serious, oh you should see the baby- he said pointing to the baby I looked at her and he started to wrinkle his nose as if he was going to cry I was surprised and happy because she was finally showing signs of life.

-How is this possible? - I asked

-Means it's coming- he said and then he disappeared and so did the baby and everything around me. I opened my eyes and Mark was in front of me shaking me awake.

-Are you okay, buddy? - he said with a slightly swollen face from what I deduced from the way he had cried the day before.

-Yes, it was just a nightmare and how are you doing? - I asked

-I needed to rest a little bit. Hey, don't you have to go to class? - I got up and got dressed as fast as my hands could while I was doing it I threw a pillow at Elian who almost fell off the bed because of the shock.

-What? Who? - he said half asleep

-Hurry up, we have an exam in the first hour- he got up and started to get dressed while I was finishing I looked at Mark -Hey, if you want you can stay here as long as you need-

-I think I'll take your word for it- he said sitting down at the desk -but I could ask you a favor later when you get out of class would you come with me to see my sister I haven't had the courage to see her-

-Of course, my friend- I said, smiling at him. -Do what you like here, we'll be back as soon as we get out, ok? - I said and pulled Elian to the door saying goodbye to Mark and that's how our day at the university started.

The rest of the day was normal, exams, work, projects, etc. And when the day was over we went with Mark to the hospital to see his sister only this time Annah and Briana accompanied us as we approached the area where the babies were a nurse approached Mark and guided him to the pediatric intensive care area when we arrived I saw the baby and was surprised because even though the little one was full of tubes she was the same one I had been carrying in my dream, but I didn't say anything maybe telling Gina was the best thing to do.

I saw Mark approach the glass and then cry Annah, who was holding my hand, let go of it to go over to Mark and comfort him I went over and put my hand on his shoulder and no one said anything.

The little girl's condition was serious, but she was struggling as the nurse had said. And I kept remembering what that person had said, if that little girl got better, what would happen?
